Reviews for this vacation home rental in Acadia, Maine
mislead and very disappointed
August 21, 2014
We arrived at the cottage, not a lavish home. We had no cable or WIFI which were both promised . the big flat screen TV was a 19" flat screen . The high end cast iron charcoal grill was cheap metal charcoal grill that was dirty . The view was of a stand of pines that you could catch a glimpse of ocean .You did not overlook Frenchmans bay at all , you had an island directly in front of you. . We specifically asked if there were rolling swells (SURF) she said YES of course ,it turned out it was high and low tide only because of the large island right in front of your little cove!!!! The worst was yet to come , We were down on the sliver of beach (at low tide only ) to be told the people we were renting from did not own the little beach so we had to leave per the real owners of the beach!!! Very upsetting !! The next day we went down on the rocks which were the only other thing down by the water .which was really the only outdoor space we had to go there, when low and behold the property owners of the beach came over and asked what we we were doing on the rocks and we said you told us not to go on your beach so we thought the rocks would be OK but oh no they informed us that they owned all of the waterfront the rentals and the main house had NO WATERFRONT AT ALL!!! You want to talk about being mislead and truly lied to ! Not to mention cameras on you at every angle ! We have to say it was the WORST VACATION we have ever taken in Maine , not only that it cost us double what it usually does !!! There are so many beautiful seascapes in Maine it is amazing just NOT this place !!! We actually left 3 days early it was that bad > the women who books this place needs to learn to tell the TRUTH. DON't GET TAKEN IN AND LIED TO LIKE WE DID!!

We rented this property for our honeymoon. It sounded perfect as advertised. Amenities included massages, lobster cooked on the beach, picnic lunches, homemade soaps, luxurious bedding etc. Also stated close to Bar Harbor. Well when we arrived the property was in total darkness. The cottage was over the garage and was nice, nothing over the top. We thought because we arrived late everyone had left for the day. Well it turns out that there was nothing else on the property no private chef, no masseuse. Everything was locked up even the satellite TV was disconnected. The smell from the fridge was so bad, my husband and I bought supplies and cleaned it ourselves. There were no contact numbers of any sort in the rental property. I emailed the owner and said we were very disappointed and were leaving and also said she completely misrepresented what this property included. She launched into a tirade and said I was a mean and hateful etc etc... She did not respond to any of my questions and concerns and except to say that the smell from the fridge was the fresh ocean breeze. She also said she would not respond to any further emails. So we left. Bar Harbor and any nice restaurants was more than an hour away, so a two hour drive to go out to dinner! Very disappointing in all aspects. Its obvious we were totally scammed and that the owner is not a nice person. We are holding our breath waiting for our security deposit to be returned. Please do not waste your hard earned money on this rental property.
CAUTION! False advertising and Unprofessional!

We reserved 'Eagle's Cove' in April with plans to stay for a week in July. The owner started our business correspondence without a name or phone number on the email. After 10 emails back and forth, the owner finally provided her phone number. Our story is very similar to previous vacationer reviews; we were told the rental was in high demand and that she needed the deposit ASAP in order to confirm. After multiple emails, for what should have been a very simple business transaction, she never confirmed that our deposit was received. We sent an email with our questions referencing kayak rentals, bringing our own towels, etc. She would respond to one question, or give a partial response, prompting us to send another email. After multiple volleys of ridiculous emails, we called her for answers. She accused us of being 'high maintenance.' We felt like we couldn't back out of our contract based on timing and the potential loss of the security deposit. We were told that we could not bring our own kayaks 'for insurance reasons.' Another thing that raised a red flag for us was that she specifically told us "It is STRONGLY advised you did not share with local people and/or store owners where you are staying as since the season is very short in Maine you will have solicitors coming to your rental to bother you trying to sell their goods and/or services." When we spoke to some great local people, they informed us that the owner has been in legal trouble in several states. This property is variously (or previously) listed as: Eagles Cove, Acadia Cove, Acadia Ocean, Lavish Private Waterfront. We had a great vacation, in a beautiful area despite the aggravating correspondence. I made several notes on the false advertising for this property. To name a few: description advertised "spa sea bath products," which was a tiny starfish soap next to one of the bathroom sinks, and a bar of dove soap. Property advertised "wifi" but there was none present. When I inquired after our arrival I was told that "There is Wifi but being on the ocean it is not very reliable unfortunately." Bottom line - there is no wifi, neither my computer nor phone could pick up even a faint wifi signal. Listing advertised "Viking appliances," but the Viking refrigerator/freezer had mold in it. Listing also claims that the property was "Featured recently in a high end publication!" but the owner could not provide us the name of the publication. The saga con

The owners do a great job of false marketing. They give you all the details of one of two cottages, but when you book the vacation, they gave us the small dinky dingy cottage instead of what they said was the property. It's a property that was created by govt money using fraud to construct for owners benefit. Better to stay away from the false advertising and nasty situation of crazy owners.

Felt pressured to sign rental agreement. The carriage apt was great. We are having trouble being reimbursed for security and services that where not received.

This place is a scam - don't believe the hype

My family of four stayed at Eagles Cove last week. we had a very high-pressure experience when booking and were told there had been a "cancellation" requiring me to book as soon as possible. Then, we had tremendous pressure to purchase the "sunset lobsterbake" which would have cost over $300 for our family of four! When I declined (after many haranguing emails) I was told "this is next week and we have already ordered the food" - this when it was two weeks before our arrival! Needless to say I refused outright to pay. The property does look like the photos online and was on the water. The bed linens and baths were clean - however, there were literally tumbleweeds of animal hair blowing around on the floor, the "wi-fi" was nearly non-existent and the TV had two channels. When we tried to call the "manager" (who was almost never around) he didn't answer. This after more than 20 calls. An email to the person who had booked the property is still unanswered. The property was nice - but the "concierge service" was definitely not there. There was no phone in the apartment and our cells had spotty service. The "commuter ferry" over to Bar Harbor would have cost us $100 round trip per ride....we opted out of that. We were never contacted by anyone about any type of kayaking, s'mores, cookies and milk, or anything else mentioned on the website. Basically - we were on our own. It is unknown at the moment if/when we will receive our security deposit money back.....I was told it "would be mailed to me", despite the fact that I had to pay via paypal immediately to book. A very, very odd "fishy" situation overall. This property is not what it claims to be - not the "luxury/concierge property" that was advertised. Buyer beware!

Week of pure pleasure

We spent a week at this wonderful place right on the water. There was an island that we canoed out to where we enjoyed an afternoon of hiking and checking out the interesting and varied beaches. The apartment was lavish in it's decor and the beds were heaven to sleep in.
Thank you for your wonderful review...we work really hard to make this the magical retreat of one's dreams and appreciate your recognizing the love and effort that went into it. We have been voted as the number 1 luxury rental in the area and are so proud of the special clients like you who have made that happen.

Remote, pleasant Schoodic Peninsula experience
June 14, 2012
If you're seeking a remote location, a quiet setting, and a forest views, in a simple cottage setup, this rental will not disappoint. It's close to the Schoodic Peninsula part of Acadia, and nearly an hour from Mount Desert Island. The cottage is basic, as is the kitchen. It's comfortable for 2-3 people. (Two bedrooms, one bath). The lobster bake offered in addition to the cottage rental, was a lovely event.
Never have been anywhere so lovely in my life!! The most scenic oceanfront...heavenly spot!! Loved the beach, loved the biking, the hiking, the kayaking, the theatre, the galleries, the resturants--so romantic - they even cooked us a lobsterbake right on the beach at sunset-WOW! I would recommend this to EVERYONE...
