Description of the Akumal vacation apartment rental
Casa Gatos is a private villa set in a lush tropical garden, inside a vine clad limestone wall, and is conveniently located midway between Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon, a couple of hundred meters from the entrance to each, It sits in the heart of the picturesque residential neighborhood of North Akumal, facing a wooded park on a quiet lane off the main beach road.

The design of the house is a typical Mexican blend of indoor and outdoor living spaces, built around a plant filled central court, with balconies and a roof garden and gazebo.
On one side is a three bedroom Townhouse that can convert into a deluxe one bedroom an two bedroom apartment, with another one bedroom apartment across the landing.

All apartments are fully air conditioned and have ceiling fans in every room. Each apartment has HD satellite TV and WiFi.

Our one bedroom apartment with thatch roofed balcony comfortably accommodates two to three guests. The bedroom has a queen bed and a TV lounge area with a double futon and loveseats. Animal and African themed art and artifacts decorate brightly painted walls, while the numerous windows admit the breezes and sunlight. The front room has a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast counter and dining area convenient for cooking and serving and there is a daybed for the additional guest. The balcony invites relaxing or dining alfresco and an outside stairway leads from the landing to the rooftop terrace garden.

This luxury one bedroom apartment, one thousand square foot in area, on the first floor of the townhouse has a king size bed and a bathroom with a unique sunken bath cut into the bedrock. The full kitchen with a huge work island and breakfast bar, dining room with a unique glass topped table seating five and living room that is decorated with an interesting combination of comfortable contemporary furniture, antiques and nineteenth century European and Oriental art share a spacious open area. A deluxe apartment for two at a fifteen dollar up charge over base rate.

There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the roof terrace, watching a spectacular sunset over North Akumal, a dawn over the open sea, or the night sky filled with countless stars, galaxies and nebulae. Of course, there's also just sunning or reading in the shade of the gazebo while enjoying the expansive view in every direction over miles of jungle, sea and shoreline.

Our air conditioned fitness center is an added bonus for guests interested in working out with various types of exercise machines. Each apartment has satellite TV and internet access. All rooms are air conditioned and have overhead and window fans.

Area Information
Akumal, a picturesque resort founded by divers over fifty years ago and still a diving, fishing and snorkeling mecca, is strung along the shores of three bays and a beautiful lagoon. The shallow and calm waters of the bays invite swimmers and the reef is so close you can snorkel out to it. The white sand beaches draw visitors from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the all inclusive resorts up and down the Riviera Maya.

North Akumal, the quiet and friendly neighborhood where Casa Gatos is located, fills a peninsular surrounded by the waters of Yalku Lagoon, the open sea and Half Moon Bay. A natural park across a quiet lane provides privacy and shields Casa Gatos from the traffic and bustle of the beach road.

Cenotes in the surrounding jungle invite snorkelling, swimming and (for those suitably trained) cave diving. The nearby ruins of the ancient Mayan Cities have attracted archaeologists and casual visitors from around the world. Tulum by car is just a half hour south of Akumal, Coba and Muyil are less than an hour's drive, while the sites of Chichen Itza and Ek Balam and the colonial city of Valladolid are within a few hours for a day's excursion.
