From our airy and spacious condo at La Bahia you can walk barefoot to two restaurants/beach bars, relax and read under the palms or palapas with 180-degree vews of the sea, or snorkel in the bay, only yards from your patio, where sea turtles and tropical fish abound. The sandy beach is never crowded.
This 2-bedroom/2-bath unit of 820 square feet includes new appliances, new floor tile and sofa fabrics, as well as new air conditioning and ceiling fans. The open floor plan includes large windows on three sides of the living room, one large window in the dining area, and is decorated with live tropical plants and Mexican artifacts. The Caribbean Sea can be viewed from all rooms.
The master bedroom (king-sized bed) and guest room (two twins) both have ample closet space and ensuite bathrooms. Daily maid service is available, and beach towels are provided. There is no TV or telephone to ensure maximum serenity, but wireless Internet service and some cell phone services are available in the condo. Phone and Internet services are also available in Akumal.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, blender, toaster, coffeemaker, bottled drinking water, and a large assortment of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, and various cooking utensils.
The town of Akumal, a short walk from the condo, has two markets (with ATM machines and enough food items to meet your needs); seven restaurants (one with live entertainment a few nights a week during high season); three dive shops; travel office (TSA) for arranging tours, fishing and boating trips; fresh produce market twice a week; several shops and boutiques; yoga classes and fitness center; massage; bike rentals; laudromat; and more. There are also two small convenience stores just minutes from the condo.
The CEA (Centro Ecologica Akumal) provides information on sea turtles and other marine life. Akumal is ecologically protected and well known for its sea turtles and their nesting grounds. In fact, turtles nest on our beach at Half Moon from May to October, and the CEA can arrange viewing tours for an incredible experience. Try snorkeling or diving in the area's many beautiful freshwater cenotes (limestone sinkholes).
Playa del Carmen (22 miles) has great shopping and restaurants, two large supermarkets, golf courses, and a bird sanctuary in nearby Playacar. You can swim with the dolphins at Puerto Aventuras (12 miles), which also has manatee and sea lion shows and great restaurants and shopping. Tulum (25 minutes south) is a nice town with restaurants, fish markets, shopping, and five miles of pristine beaches. Don't miss the Tulum Mayan ruins, a unique seacliff site, and the fantastic Sian Ka'an Biosphere, just south of Tulum. For more ruins, visit Coba (one hour from Akumal) and the famous Chichen Itza (2 1/2 hours), now a Wonder of the World.

Playa Caribe was a slice of heaven inside a cornoa bottle....OMG - we are going back and staying in the same unit in 3 months....we are having akumal withdrawls! Ruthie & Jeff Swenson
Warm weather, warm water, and the great area made for a wonderful mid-winter break. The condo is great - comfortable, convenient, and right on the beach. We loved being able to walk to several restaurants, a snorkeling lagoon just up the road, and the little village had some lovely shops for gifts and souvenirs. We ventured out on a few day trips to Tulum and Aktun Chen caves and enjoyed both very much, but just being at La Bahia was entertaining and relaxing for us. We saw the turtles every day!
Thank you for an unforgettable introduction to Mexico and much spirit-healing peace. I'll remember the sound of the waves when I'm in the middle of our American life and the underwater "flight" of the turtles we saw.

We had a wonderful time in your condo on the beach! The view is unbelievable, and we have seen so many different fish and sea life. The house is very comfortable, even with five adults.

What a beautiful place! The accommodations were perfect. We really enjoyed our time here - snorkeling with the turtles, fishing with Pedro and Ivan. Can't wait to come back again.
