Description of the Anchorage vacation apartment rental
This two-bedroom, one bathroom apartment is located adjacent to the owner's home (separate entrance) on more than 2.5 wooded acres in the upper hillside of south Anchorage, Alaska. Apartment includes fully equipped kitchen, laundry, and living area with TV, free Wi-Fi, etc. Bedrooms have blackout curtains to help you sleep under the midnight sun! A fabulous view can be seen out of every room in the house, including the Alaska mountain range, Chugach range, volcanoes, and Cook Inlet. Beautifual alpenglow sunsets. Moose are frequent visitors, and there is also a chance to see owls, hares, and the occasional bear, wolverine or lynx. Hiking trails from the backyard connect to a municipal trail system along Rabbit Creek. Owners live next door and would be happy to share stories or provide advice for sightseeing opportunities.

Owner also has a pottery studio on site, hence the name Rabbit Creek Studio. This does not refer to the size of the rental which does have two separate private bedrooms.

More information including a location map, floor plan, and more are available on our rabbitcreekstudio internet site. Or please call or email us for more information.
Area Information
Our home is located in the Rabbit Creek Area of South Anchorage. Close enough to enjoy the City of Anchorage but far enough away to feel like you have gotten away from it all! Close to hiking and skiing trails and the Alaska Zoo, Althetic Club, or the golf course. The location is about 20 minutes from the Airport or downtown, and 5 minutes from the Seward Highway (access to the Kenai Peninsula to the south and all points north).

Owners are very friendly-easy access to highways

July 30, 2016

The owners live on the property and are very friendly. The price for the accommodations was reasonable. Parking was accessible and the views were nice. Nothing fantastic about this property but the price and as the saying goes - you get what you pay for. The apartment was on the second floor and you have to carry luggage, groceries, etc upstairs. The beds were very uncomfortable. You could feel the mattress coil springs. The pillows were stained. Most of the dishes were chipped pottery. (There is a pottery studio onsite) and the Inside of the cabinets were dirty. The drawer underneath the stove was filthy and had a cast iron skillet in it which looked like it had some kind of cornmeal in it. There is a gas grill on the deck but it took forever to cook a hamburger as most of the burners didn't work. Only one half of the toaster worked. In the walk-in closet in the master bedroom, there are numerous types of sheets, towels etc. There was a lot of what appeared to be cat-hair on most of the towels. They did have some new towels which when used left you covered in brown lint as the towels had not been pre-washed. We had trouble getting the washer to work and my daughter discovered you had to place both hands around the dial and press and turn at the same time. I reported all this to the owner and she said that was a new washer (I don't think so) she said it'll give her husband something to do. I guess he's in charge of cleaning and maintaining the rental. The location was excellent and it was quiet. My daughter did see Moose in the back yard on 3 of the mornings that we stayed there. A baby, a mama and a bull moose. This would be an excellent rental if the owners would invest in new mattresses, bedding, linens, pillows, dishes, coffee cups, flatware, pots & pans and update the small appliances, Get a new Gas Grill and fix the washing machine dial. There was a shelf in the refrigerator that you couldn't use because everything slid off of it and everything in one drawer was frozen solid. They also need to clean out all the kitchen and bathroom cabinets of the dirt, clutter and stock it as if they lived there. There were food items in the cupboard that I would have thrown away. We probably wouldn't stay there again but the price was reasonable and the owners were very nice.

Owner's reply:

Mary Tate, I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. I wish I knew before the day you checked out, we would have done our best to meet your needs. I took a hike with your daughter one day and she only expressed how pleased she was with the place. Similarly previous and subsequent guests Have not mentioned any issues. We will look into these items right away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Could I see northern lights during my visit?
A: It is a treat for anyone to see the aurora borealis. If you are visiting between August and April, the nights are dark enough to see northern lights. We rarely see the aurora during the summer because there is too much daylight to see them even if they were there.
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: We have occasionally allowed folks to have a dog in the rental with them.
We have our own dog next door and understand they are a part of the family. However, in order to ensure our next guests are comfortable, we get the carpets shampooed afterwards. We charge an extra cost to allow us to do this or ask that the guests arrange for that themselves.
Q: What is most special about your rental?
A: We like the fact that it is located just enough outside of the main part of Anchorage that we experience nature all around us with the trees and wildlife and hiking trails right out our backdoor. But, it also has the convenience of being close to the city and all it has to offer.
Q: What kind of wildlife might I see at your vacation rental?
A: It depends on the season, but in summer moose and hares are common as well as many species of birds including owls. Sometimes we will see black bear, brown bear, lynx, or wolverine (rarely).
