From driving down the private dirt road to fishing on a private lake, this place was a wonderful place to get away for a long weekend. Lots of wildlife, cleared hiking trails, as private as you want. Very nice host.
“The best birthday present ever”
I was talking to my love about wanting to get away from it all and have a romantic weekend. He found the millers place online and seemed perfect, I was a little worried about the price, but when we got there and seen the place and met jerry and Debbie, well, it was worth every penny, it was beautiful, peaceful, and so comfortable. They made sure you had everything you needed. We had such an awesome time and fell in love all over again. We will definitely be returning many more times. Thank you Jerry and Debbie, your friends Gerry and Pam
Owner's reply: Pamela, Thank you so much, it's easy to be nice to such Wonderful people as you and Gerry. Hope to see you again soon. Jerry
“Pictures don't do it justice!”
I do believe you will never go to a more picturesque place anywhere! The owners, Jerry and Debbie, are the nicest people and are certainly beyond accommodating. From the moment we got there and got the grand tour until the moment we left we had fun. The lake is so beautiful, has lots of fish, they provide you row boats to use and they have tried to think of everything and anything you could need while there. They even brought us down a baking pan for our Easter dinner! We all loved the way we could commune with their animals and the many varieties of wild animals there. We acted like little kids helping find the chicken eggs or feeding "cookies" to the horse. We even caught a glimpse of the big beaver who tries to fell the trees the first day we were there. There are well manicured paths cut into the woods for taking a leisurely stroll or for those of us who need to run. There are places to explore, a river to climb to (watch out for those ticks!!) forests to enjoy, and a big deck to come back to and sit on to admire the lake's beauty while sharing cocktails or a meal. We even were treated to a big bon fire one night were we sat out for hours and enjoyed the many stars and conversation. We have been to many private cabins in the surrounding area in SE Oklahoma and this tops our list. The pictures do not do this place justice! It is so much prettier in person and there is so much more than what the pictures show. We will definitely visit your "little piece of heaven" again!! See y'all soon.
Owner's reply: Thank you Debbie, we enjoyed your company and hope to see you again soon.
“Wish This Site/Listing Was Better Maintained”
I reviewed the property on-line and thought this would be a great getaway spot for Spring Break. And since the calendar showed the dates I wanted were open, I went ahead and put my information into the site and was expecting to get a quick confirmation that we had the property for our visit. It wasn't until I got a call back from the owner/leasing agent that I was made aware that "this is a really busy time for us, and it's rented during the days you input ont he website". If I had known that, I wouldn't have wasted my time & effort inputting the data. To me, it seems like if I was relying on a website to get renters for my property, I would really expect it to have accurate data in the calendar for people to review and assess. Please note that I only rated the property with 1 Star as the site forces you to input a rating - I never actually stayed there. I was prepared to just chalk up my experience to Murphy's Law and let it go. However, since I've continued to get peppered with e-mails from the VCH for my opinion on my "stay" at this property over the last week, I felt I had to provide my true experience - warts & all. And as it happens, I would probably consider another attempt to rent this property in the future, but I would be more inclined to pick up the phone and call them directly (if that's even possible) vs. using the website since it wasn't maintained when I went there in this case.
Owner's reply: We are very sorry for the lack of personal, quick response to your inquiry. As we are very rural and often subject to weather conditions that restrict our access, we take full responsibility for your rating. One of the reasons we like to have people "call" us for information and booking is just what you have experienced. Perhaps you'll give us another try as most of our customers have a very positive stay. Again, our apologies.
Wow!! Stress free vacation on a beautiful property by a private lake. Owners, Debbie and Jerry made the vacation extra sweet with their hospitality, fresh eggs, tomatos, fishing lessons and stories. Can't wait to go back.
Owner's reply: Thank you, Teresa, we're looking forward to your return, you were wonderful guests!
“A Private Get Away”
This place can't be beat if you want privacy and nature. This is our second year and we'll be back. The cottage is superb and the property wonderful. We saw a bald eagle (if flew over the lake while we were fishing for bass) and we also saw a beaver in the moon light as it crossed the lake.
“Paradise For Kids”
Let's face it, most vacations are for adults...the kids just come along. This is an opportunity for the kids to come first and the parents end up thrilled with the ride. We knew nothing about this cabin other than what we read. Not much to go on...but we are believers! Jerry and Deb are the real deal...and completely hands off if you want them to be. Our 11 year old son learned to row while bass fishing, our 10 year old daughter rode horses, fed the chickens, cows, bison and any other wildlife she could find to say hi to. Folks, if you want the Ritz-Carlton, go to the Ritz-Carlton. This is an immaculate, well-appointed paradise for a family like ours...just like yours. Nothing fancy but way more than adequate. We cooked our own meals...full kitchen made this easy. Campfires, outdoor BBQ grill and firepit...if you hurry, you might enjoy the pinon wood we left behind. If you don't cook, Deb and Jerry will do that for you. Don't miss this opportunity. I promise...this is the kind of place you will want to come back to. If you are anything like us, you will not want to go back home. Seriously...what more can you ask? By the way, grab some of the cedar discs that are milled on the property. They are super cheap and perfect for your walk way or garden once you return home. They beat any refrigerator magnet or mug you could bring home from the tourist trap you were thinking about going to. dc and family
Miller Lake Retreat must closely resemble what heaven might look like. My husband and I stayed for three nights and had a spectacular time. The owners are incredibly gracious and accommodating, the cabin beautiful and immaculate. My husband loves fishing, so we spent a great deal of time on the lake. I'd never rowed a boat before, but it turns out that I loved the motion of it, and it made my back feel great. We cruised around the property in the golf cart each day to catch a glimpse of the bison, deer and various other animals. One of the trees behind the cabin is home to many hummingbirds. The kitchen was quite well appointed, but we opted to cook all our meals on the fire pit by the water. Stew, steaks, cobbler, you name it. If you enjoy outdoor cooking, take along a Dutch oven and go crazy. Food just tastes better cooked over an open flame. It was as relaxing and enjoyable a time as I can recall.
“A Little Piece of Heaven”
What a spectacular place this is. Truly stunning. The cottage is nestled in a gorgeous clearing next to the lake and is completely private and quiet. The new cottage is more like a small house, with all the amenities you could ask for and decorated beautifully. We enjoyed sitting on the wrap around deck that faces the lake and listening to all the fantastic sounds. The owners are wonderful people and the service it great. It was hard to leave this place when our time was up! You couldn't ask for more.
“This is not Waltons Mountain”
My daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids rented the Miller Lake for one week as they did the previous year. My daughter asked me to come down and visit with them and I drove down late one evening and spent the night and got up earley the next morning to go home. I was approached by Debbie(owner) and the first words from her mouth were I need your card and puzzled I asked her what card? she replied your credit card I have to charge you $50.00 for spending the night for guests plus tax. I handed her my card and she ran in through visa charging me $50.00 plus tax which was just fine with me. My daughter talked to later and told her she thought this was not fair and she came back and handed me $50.00 in cash plus a handful of quarters and told me it was too much trouble to just credit my account. My daughter receives an email from Debbie is charging her $77.00 for a spilled coco cola or coffee on the carpet. My daughter has alway left the cabin spotless and this was a disappointment.
Owner's reply: Mr. Will came to visit his family while they were @ Miller Lake. He said he would not be staying the night. It was requested that he come to our house to announce himself and we would take him down to the cottage. He did not. Next morning, Mr. Will was still here. I did ask him for his credit card and told him why. He gave his card and I ran it through for the amount of an extra guest for one night. Our policy is any extra people will be charged for the night. It was disputed by his daughter and I said I would refund his money back. He was in a hurry... India on a Sunday is not in a hurry and they don't seem to know how to do a charge-back, so I did the next best thing... I GAVE HIM EXACT DOLLAR AND CHANGE BACK. I guess he didn't like it. The "coke spill" charge was covered by the rental agreement and really was never disputed except by Mr. Will. Hmmm, wonder who might have spilled the coke.
