About Gilbert

Just southeast of Phoenix, Gilbert, Arizona is a bustling suburban center with a pleasant small town feel. With its proximity to the big city, there’s never a shortage of things to do, yet there’s also plenty of relaxation to be had. Take your pick of Gilbert vacation homes, and settle in for a fun trip to Maricopa County.

Climate

Gilbert maintains warm to hot temperatures year round, so book your trip any time during the year without fear of chilly weather. Temperatures tend to be lowest in December and January, when they top out at a mild, comfortable 70 degrees. In the summer months, however, the thermometer climbs to about 110 degrees, so plan your trip wisely if you'd rather not brave the heat.

Transit

This small town has grown quickly in the past few decades, but it hasn’t yet incorporated a comprehensive public transit network aside from bus transit to and from downtown Phoenix. As such, visitors should plan to rent a car or drive their own to travel back and forth between the many conveniently located Gilbert vacation homes and the town’s attractions.

Things to Do

Relaxation is second nature in the Gilbert area due to the town’s many day spas. Whether you book a single treatment or an entire day of pampering, you’ll have your choice of several highly regarded spas in the Gilbert area. Relax with a deep tissue massage at Luxe Salon, a sculpting facial at Touch of Tranquility Massage, or an organic manicure and pedicure at Greenfield Nails & Spa.

The great outdoors are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Gilbert. One of the area’s most loved family attractions is the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, where visitors of all ages can hike, fish, picnic, and spot birds and wildlife. Over 200 bird species make their home here, and with nearly five miles of walking trails, there’s plenty to do and see. For a more rugged hike, try the Apache Trail, which boasts 40 miles of stunning canyon and peak views.

Even on the hottest of days, families don’t have to stay inside their Gilbert vacation rentals. The city has cool indoor attractions, such as the Higley Center for the Performing Arts and the Gilbert Historical Museum. The historical museum is a great way to discover Gilbert’s history through artifacts and stories.

If you have the little ones along, head to Freestone Park, which features over 100 acres of kid-friendly play areas, picnic spots, and baseball fields. Older kids can grab a skateboard and practice their moves at the neighboring Freestone Skate Park, one of the best of its kind in Arizona.

Shopping

For the town’s best shopping and dining, look no further than the Heritage District, a charming historical area that also has its fair share of new shops, restaurants, and breweries. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs, a new outfit, or a juicy burger, this is the place. For more focused shopping, set your sights on SanTan Village, which has over 100 stores in an outdoor setting.

Events

There’s always something to celebrate in Gilbert giving vacationers reason to stay in nearby vacation rentals all year long. In January, families will enjoy the festivities that take place during the Gilbert MLK Day Life Celebration. Visit this town in April and join the town’s diversity celebration at the Global Village Festival. From October to November, enjoy a series of outdoor concerts that take place at the Freestone Park Amphitheater and provide an opportunity for outdoor relaxation. Gilbert Days Rodeo also takes place during November and keeps the area’s western heritage alive.

From family-friendly activities to adult-oriented relaxation, you’ll find it all in Gilbert. With dozens of Gilbert vacation rentals to choose from, you’ll have plenty of space for the family to stretch out, relax, and recharge in this sunny small town.
