A peaceful hideaway in the mountains

August 19, 2016

We really enjoyed our weekend on this property. We stayed in the Lake House, which had beautiful views of the lake and mountains and was a short walk to the lake's beach area. The cabin was very comfortable and well-appointed, and we felt very relaxed the whole time. The only downside was that there was no central air-conditioning, and it was a hot weekend, so some of the rooms were pretty warm. Thankfully it cooled off enough at night that with the windows open and a couple of window A/C units and fans running, we were pretty comfortable. The lake was a lot of fun, my 3 1/2 year old daughter loved swimming and riding in the paddle boat. We had the lake to ourselves most of the time, so it was really quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. Downtown Saluda is charming, and it was a pretty easy drive from the cabin into Asheville. I didn't give it 5 stars because a couple of the paddle boats were broken, one had a hole in the bottom and one had a broken peddle. It wasn't a big issue for us, since we didn't have any other people around wanting to use the boats. If there had been more people, it might have been a problem that only one boat on our side of the lake was usable. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, because all in all, it was great and we would definitely stay here again.

This cabin was amazing. It had everything I was looking for and then some. My family and I had a wonderful time and we would gladly stay here again. My son had so much fun in the paddle boats. He also thought the fish in the lake were the neatest thing ever! This cabin had so much to offer that I wish we would have had time to stay longer. The owner, April, was very helpful and accommodating as well. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay while we were on vacation.

April Dunn

Owner's reply:

Thank you so much, Kimmie. And I'm so glad your son enjoyed the lake too! I hope you got some good pictures :)

This quaint little retreat was perfect for our weekend getaway! It was within an easy driving distance of Asheville; however, you don't even need to leave the cabin to have a wonderful weekend. We enjoyed fishing and playing with the pups in the lake, lounging in the hot tub and exploring the town of Saluda (5 mins away) for dinner! We will definitely be coming back in the future!

Thank you - so glad you enjoyed your stay!

Very relaxing. The only disappointment was that our Christmas vacation had to come to an end. The cabin sits right in the creek and I was able to relax and listen to it at night while reading or falling asleep. There is a fire place in the master bedroom. The yard was a little smaller than I had imagined based on the photos, but it was plenty large enough for my boys to get muddied up playing football. Keep in mind it's Inna very small development, but there was literally no traffic going by. I would definitely stay again. Valerie was very accommodating.

April Dunn

Owner's reply:

Hi Karen, I approved your review because I wanted to let you know this isn't the right property for the review and I didn't want whomever you stayed with not to have such a great review! I hope you can find the place that you stayed...

Sincerely,
April

Our week in NC

My wife and I decided to take a week off and go to the mountains of NC and find some cooler weather. (We live in Florida). What a nice surprise. We arrived at our house (cabin). It was very neat, clean and the property was in very good condition. We unpacked and enjoyed a great week. If it gets too hot next fall, we know where to go.

April Dunn

Owner's reply:

Thank you for your reply - yes this is the perfect area to get away from heat and what a beautiful Fall we had! Thanks for keeping us in mind for next time too!

I was overwhelmed by all the amenities available to us. Close to Rocky Mountains, Biltmore Estate, Asheville. Loved the town of Saluda in which our cabin was. If I had the chance to go back I would go to the same place. The cabin was just wonderful. Total country living. Could see horses from the deck that supplied a grill, covered table w umbrella and a hot tub. This was so relaxing on the days of walking. Pearson Falls was an exciting find so close to where we were. Next time we would take a picnic and spend more time there. Horseback riding at the Biltmore Estates was my personal highlight of the trip. This vacation was a yearly trip my 2 sisters and I try to take to visit and laugh. It also was one sister's birthday. Would recommend this area to anyone.

April Dunn

Owner's reply:

I was so happy to hear you and your sisters were coming for a yearly trip together and so glad you all enjoyed your time together here - and loved the area! Thank you for the review, and maybe talk to you next year!

The perfect combination of rustic and modern. Appreciated the washer dryer and loved the hot tub on the porch. Loved sitting on the deck looking out over the lake and paddleboatingnon the lake. Saluda is a delightful friendly town with great food both to prepare and prepared. Quaint shops. We were close enough for day trips to Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore estate and Pearson falls. Leaves were beautiful to us Floridians though we were told the prior week was peak. Had one day of rain that was relaxing and beautiful in a different way. We highly recommend Bear Chalet and will return. There are a lot of stairs and up hill down hill walking-it is the mountains after all

Owner's reply:

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Bear Chalet! Thank you, I love Pearson Falls too. Have a beautiful remaining Fall and warm winter in FL :) - April

We rented the Lake View Retreat cabin at the end of October and loved the location! The smell of being in the woods and the beauty of the colored leaves all around us was beyond words. We especially enjoyed the hot tub that was outside off the deck and the gas fireplace inside the cabin. There were several places to hike and discover beautiful waterfalls that were nestled in the woods. Pictures did not justify the beauty of this place... you have to stay here to experience it!

April Dunn

Owner's reply:

Thank you so much, Wendy, I'm so happy you enjoyed it. You really were here a perfect week with the leaves peaking - I love it too! Have a great rest of your Fall and see you again soon! -April

August 1, 2015

Very nice rental. Clean and a lot of living space. I was just a little unhappy that there is only salt and pepper provided for cooking. When I read 'pantry' I was hoping for oil, sugar, flour, or baking soda. Basic ingredients. But then, I like to cook. I wish the house had wifi. The world we live in makes it very difficult to stay in contact with family, friends or coworkers without wifi. It also made it difficult to look up any information while we were there. We just had to be creative and stop at places that offer free internet. The tv is good, but ESPN would be a good addition to the choice of channels. Just little things that do not ruin a vacation, just make it a little better. The lake is so beautiful and there is so much to do that we were able to fill our days with adventure. The area restaurants were AWESOME!!!!! None of our party of four had a bad meal. It is a great getaway and we very much enjoyed our stay.

What a wonderful place to wake up to. Quiet mornings, sun shining, birds singing. Watching the deer cross the lawn, in a lazy walk. Humming birds getting the last of nectar as they headed south. Wonderful welcome from the towns folk. Great food and plenty of artsy shop to pass the time. Longing for spring so we can come back.

The staff is super nice, place is dog friendly, the view of mountain and lake from bedroom is so nice, hottub was perfect on a snowy night, reallly thougth of everything, all soap, towels, extra batteries, brochures of things to do in the area. Washer and dryer, I would have given five stars if it were not for a water prob. which was an easy fix but held up my ability to clean up the place and shower before i left.

The cabin was perfect. We stayed in the Hideaway, which will sleep 2 very comfortably. All linens, cookware, and dishes are provided. Quiet and peaceful, you could sit on the porch and just enjoy the woodlands surrounding the cabin. There were trails within the retreat and we were able to take our dog. This is the second year that we have stayed and enjoyed it all. Very clean, friendly caretakers, and close to many area attractions. Would highly recommend to all.

Lake House is just what we were looking for in a mountain cabin - a little rustic, wood burning fireplace, very clean with modern kitchen & baths, and some luxury like a fantastic outdoor hot tub. The cabin has nice lake & mountain views. Secluded location, but easy to find just off I26, minutes to Saluda & close to other quaint small towns. Fun things to do on the property like paddle boats & hiking to a waterfall.

Everything in the cabin (more like a converted lake house)was in working order. We rented Mama Bear, the top floor of a 2 story house. I second the other comment about one bed being less than comfy. But we felt very private and loved hiking the trails on the property. The scenery was beautiful. The rep was very accomodating, in fact we had a second family decide at the last minute to join us and they rented the bottom half of the house. They even called us to make sure it was OK!! We wound up with 8 total and there was more than enough room for all. I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a beautiful property for a great price!

We absolutely loved our vacation at the Saluda Mountain Lake Retreat! The scenary was beautiful and even though all the other cabins were booked it felt like we were the only ones there. Our dog loved swimming and fishing with us on the pond and we took great hikes while in the area. The Bear Chalet had plenty of room and was very clean, plus the hot tub helps with sore muscles after climbing up the sides of mountains:) Only downside was our bed was less than comfy but all in all our family had one of our best vacations yet. We would love to come back for a fall weekend during color change - it will be GORGEOUS there then. The Purple Onion and Saluda Grade Cafe are great eating and only 15 minute away in the down town area. If you visit make sure to call Zach the first day for all your fishing gear and the inside scoop for good biting spots!

We had a great time on our vacation. The cabin was very nice,we especially enjoyed hot tub on the back deck. It was very private and they are dog friendly. If you need anything the caretaker is there with a smile. Its close to Asheville so we made a few day trips. The town of Saluda was fantastic. There was also tubing right down the road. We will be coming back next year for sure.
