charming and accessible

February 7, 2012

We stayed here while visiting our son. We also brought our dog with us and it turned out to be a great place to stay for us as there are walking trails just around the corner that we could take her out for some exercise on. The apt. had almost everything that we needed (make sure that you bring your own coffee/tea/sugar/spices etc.) and was very comfortable. It is in a great location and even has a washer and dryer that you can use.! You can hear the owners upstairs, which didn't bother us, but if you like complete quiet that could be distracting for you. Overall, I would definitely recommend this apt.and would stay there again.

Where's the beef?

July 7, 2011

The cottage and accompanying view are lovely. It has potential to be a wonderful vacation venue. Unfortunately, due to general lack if attention to maintenance or care for tenants, we would not recommend Beef's Retreat. Here are the issues we experienced. The road leading to the cottage was washed out with deep crevices which made it quite challenging to get to the cottage. We often had to park a ways off from the cottage and walk down the dangerous road at night. The rental agency indicated that the road should have been scraped but did nothing to make it happen. Once inside the cottage, we noticed many cobwebs throughout the place. The handle to the freezer compartment of the fridge was broken. The face if one of the kitchen drawers was off with the pointy tips of screws exposed. The washing machine did not work. The agency was aware of this but made no effort to repair it. Midway through our stay the microwave stopped working. Also guys showed ip to drain the hot tub two days prior to our departure date indicating that the agency had indicated that we should be checking out that day. For some reason the cottage DVD selection includes only horror movies and Barbara Streisand shows. The tiny living room will not accommodate a family of four and there is no table on which to eat. Lastly, there were mice in the cabin. The buildings nearby the cottage appeared to be abandoned with unkept yards, etc. The ski lift area also looked creepy and desolate with tall weeds all around. Overall we enjoyed the views but were very disappointed with the lack if care for the property and the lack of care expressed towards us as tenants. The Breakaway area in which Beefy's Retreat is located seems as if it is soon to go out of business. Perhaps the rental agency has simply given up on the property and therefore puts little to no effort into assuring guest comfort. For instance there was no trash collection provided even though leaving trash bags outside would certainly attract bears.
