Description of the Ashland vacation home rental
Get back to nature and back to yourself at this Ashland vacation rental, The Meadow House, a serene vacation home in beautiful Southern Oregon between Ashland and Yreka, California. This comfortable home is situated on the edge of a meadow in a valley long held sacred by Native Americans and offers postcard perfect views of Mount Ashland and the Siskiyous. At night, unhindered by artificial lights, the stars illuminate the night with the Milky Way, constellations easy to spot, and the major meteor showers in August and November.

This home was lovingly designed and built by a Buddhist nun, whose love for the land and attention to detail makes it a truly special retreat, a short walk from the Tibetan Buddhist Temple, Tashi Choling. The 24 acres border aspen groves, oak forests, and a creek -- wild animals and birds make this home too. Pets love the open meadow and creek and all the smells and sounds of other animals.

The house comfortably sleeps eight guests in its two bedrooms plus sofa bed, though more are welcome to curl up on the extra mattresses and futons. There's a modern kitchen, satellite TV and WiFi Internet, laundry, a master guest suite and a lower level family room with plenty of space, board games, children's toys, a special library of books, CD's and DVDs and even a piano.

The owner lives on the property in a separate apartment over the garage, invisible to guests unless assistance is needed or questions come up.

Cigarette smoking isn't allowed in the house, but is allowed on the screened in porch. During the late summer fire season no smoking is permitted in the meadow.

Area Information
Oregon, the Beaver State, is full of waterfalls, a few volcanoes including Crater Lake National Park, and Mt Shasta an hour south. Some areas are very cavernous, so spelunking is a favorite activity. You can explore the original Oregon Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail.

The Oregon mountains and rivers provide visitors with recreation and breathtaking scenery. The richness of the arts in the area allow you to take in concerts at the Britt Festival or Ginger Rogers Craterion Theater or the world-reknowned Ashland Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Stageworks, a film festival in April, and on the first Fridays of the month, dozens of art studios are open to the public with art displays and snacks. Shopping is tax-free.

The Meadow House has guide books on the trails and activities in the area, as well as a full library catering to many interests. There are also menus from some of the excellent restaurants in the area, including Callaghan's just 8 miles away.

SOU (Ashland) Graduation Weekend

June 14, 2011

A friend recommended that I check out your website for a location in Ashland, we planned to have a big family get-together for my son's graduation from SOU and did not want to stay in stuffy hotel rooms. I saw the listing for the Meadow House and noted that Rick welcomed groups and pets! We had a wonderful experience; lots of room for the dogs (and people) to roam. The house was the perfect size for our age ranges; grandparents, middle aged (me) and college graduate plus friends! Lots of activities and quiet, restfully atmosphere. Rick provided fluffy towels and comfy beds - no cigarette smell! The fully stocked (equipment) kitchen at the Meadow House allowed us to cook meals and coordinate our weekend on our schedule. Thank you to Rick, we will be back again! The Young Family.

We are well traveled - but this is a place you have to see. Rain or snow, you see a wide-open landscape, the cone of Mt.Ashland above the hills. Flocks of wild turkeys (I counted 80), occasionally a herd of elks, more often deer. You can retire reading at the wood stove in winter, work the high-speed Internet, or enjoy all the green and wildflowers in spring. All Ashland has to offer is a short trip away. We will be back in May.

Guestbook

We have stayed here 4 times already and each time has been a pleasure. The location is heavenly: Very remote yet completely connected to the world through satellite TV and high speed Internet access. We spend lots of time relaxing on the deck while Clyde explores the large property. The Colistin valley is a truly peaceful and spiritual experience with quiet sunny days and restful nights under the stars of the visible Milky Way. The best of all worlds exists here with the culture and ammenities of Ashland a short very lovely drive away, through a mountian road. We have found our place and plan on returning repeatedly.
