In the old town
Piazza Asolo is an elegant apartment located on the first floor of a historical palazzo in the centre of Asolo. The apartment overlooks the magnificent Queen Cornaro’s Castle and the main square of the town. It measures 200 sqm and has no elevator. Set in the main square of Asolo, this perfectly restored property has maintained its charme intact thanks to the 18th century frescoes and due to its unique pieces of furniture. At the ground floor of the building the famous "Caffè Centrale" animates the central Piazza of the town. Due to its position, the apartment could be slightly noisy.
For centuries the famous “Caffè Centrale”, at the ground floor of the same building, has been frequented by illustrious figures, such as Gabriele D'Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, Giosuè Carducci, Robert Browning, Ernest Hemingway, Henry James, Hugo von Hofmansthal, Freya Stark, Arnold Schoemberg and many others. Since 1796, the Palazzo, has been hosting a cultural circle named “Società del Casino”, some of his members took part in a conspiracy against Napoleon in 1808.
More recently, in the 20th century, Hemingway used to be in Asolo after World War II, mostly between 1948 and 1954; in that period he met countess Adriana Ivancich and wrote “Across the River and into the Trees”. He had previously lived in Veneto, in 1918, where he was helping our soldiers during World War I, particularly in Schio, Fossalta and Bassano. Thanks to his efforts during the Great War, in 2012 the Comune of Fossalta has inaugurated a path (http://www.**********************) aimed to creating a ‘historical memory’ of the places where Hemingway stood during that terrible period, and where he was seriously injured.
Asolo is a spectacular medieval village, also known as the 'Pearl of Veneto’, which offers a variety of cultural and artistic amenities in an area with an outstanding natural beauty: for centuries it has been frequented by personalities, such as Gabriele D'Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, Giosuè Carducci, Robert Browning, Ernest Hemingway, Henry James, Hugo von Hofmansthal, Freya Stark, Arnold Schoemberg and many others.
Asolo is close to some of the most beautiful world-famous Palladian Villas and is strategically located near important cities such as Treviso, Venice, Padua, Vicenza and Verona.
Thanks to its fine cuisine and excellent wines (don’t miss the ‘Colli Asolani Wine Road’), it is also the perfect destination for wine and great-food lovers. Restaurants nearby: Villa Cipriani (simply amazing!); La Terrazza Al Sole; Hosteria Ca’ Derton; Osteria della Giarrettiera.
Additional amenities: Airport distance:Venice 63 km Milan 300 km, Coffee machine, Electric kettle, Iron and board, Private Chef, Storage room on the ground floor for your bicycles and golf equipment, Stove with oven, Washing machine and dryer
