Description of the Asti vacation home rental
Restored but still rustic country home on a hilltop surrounded by vineyards of the Langhe Roero and Asti areas, with views to the alps. Ideal for families and groups up to 12 people. Five bedrooms, 4+ baths, large family room / kitchen with fireplace, great for preparing and sharing big family or group meals. Outdoor cooking, dining and entertaining areas with barbecue and pizza oven, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, fruit tress, herb garden, 4 car carport, solar panels. A real home, not a hotel-style rental property. Short drive to Alba, Barolo, Barbaresco, Canale, Asti. Only 1.5 km to town (San Damiano) and shops, last part of road unpaved (gravel). When not rented this remains my home, so care and respect are necessary ingredients. Pictures on FB at il mestolo in San Damiano d'Asti. Request friendship.

Area Information
The best part of Italy for serious wine and food lovers. Admittedly many other parts of Italy have lots to offer, but this part of Piemonte is unique. Barolo and Barbaresco in the Langhe are nearby and well known, Canale in the Roero even closer. There are many other varietals and styles to discover as well, mostly from smaller producers, all within a 10-40 minute drive. The Langhe was recently added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites for the beauty of the well maintained vineyards and hilltop towns. Alba is 20 minutes away and is a charming small city which hosts the annual International White Truffle Festival in October. Bra (40 minutes) is the home of the Slow Food movement and the semi-annual CHEESE festival. There are several Michelin starred restaurants nearby, including Piazza Duomo in Alba where Chef Enrico Crippa has gained international attention. The Ristorante all'Enoteca in Canale (chef Davide Palluda) is a stone's throw from the property. A breathtaking view of the medieval castle town of Cisterna d'Asti, with Monviso right behind it, enjoyed while sipping wine by the pool at sunset, is a memory that will last a lifetime. Great cycling and walking area. Vespa rentals and tours can be arranged locally. Farmer's markets nearby almost daily, with the Saturday Alba market being a highlight. Great home base for exploring northern Italy: approx. 60 minute drive to the alps, 90 minutes to the sea near Genova, 90 minutes to Milano. Shop in the morning for fresh ingredients at the local markets and enjoy preparing meals and entertaining back at the house. Wi-Fi, outdoor speakers, privacy, beauty, ...

This is an absolute pearl. Wake up, take your espresso to the far corner of the garden and enjoy Mont Blanc, the hilly slopes with vines, birds flying above you - and beneath you in the valley. Go to the local market in nearby San Damiano, fill your baskets with vegetables, fruit, cheese, wine, everything, from the morning market. Decide for a swim before making lunch. Longe about in the afternoon, take a walk around the house with the many little details and tableaus in this tastefully renovated classic Italian farm house. Have a drink on the deck, watching the sun go down; talk about dinner. Do it yourself at the pizza-oven and outside grill ? Or go to the local michelin-awarded local cuisine restaurant Garibaldi in Cisterna, which you have been looking at in the far distance from your pool chair anyway. At night, turn on the lights in the pool and have a private party - or turn them off and be one with the moon and a million stars above you. Magic, that's what it is. This house does an eqeally amazing job for two people as it does for the full extended family.

Owner's reply:

Wow! Thanks Julie - thanks for the images and the poetry. I hope (and believe) that others have felt the same magic here. Yes, it is a place that seems to adapt itself to the number of people rather than the other way around. I am perfectly comfortable alone here, yet it doesn't feel crowded when there are 10 staying or even 40 for a party. Yes, kind of magical, isn't it?

I have spent much time over the last 15 years on this property. I love this house! It is one of the few places in the world that truly feels like home. You can find deep peace and clarity here. And the food and especially the wine in the whole region is sublime. You will never want to leave.

Owner's reply:

Tony - Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the place has a special energy, much of which is due to the sharing of so many good times with so many good people. I am looking forward to your next visit.
