Description from owner

Dramatically set on the side of a mountain, overlooking a sparkling clean, spring-fed 12-acre lake, our cottage is perfect for honeymooners or nature lovers-- or anyone who appreciates secluded peace and quiet.

It features a high deck facing our 200 feet of natural lake frontage with dock and canoe. In afternoon sun or under a star-blasted night sky, it's utterly private, on 3 wooded acres.

Please note: We rent only to (non-smoking) adults.

The sunny livingroom has mahogany flooring, knotty pine paneling, and big windows with pretty views. There's a cozy dining area next to a cast iron heat stove (ceramic log, propane fireplace).

Upstairs, a romantic "loft" bedroom overlooks the livingroom and has a custom-made, queen-size platform bed with a firm, new mattress.

All linens are supplied.

There's a small, quiet room at the back of the house with a futon couch that makes into a single bed.

The spacious bathroom features a washer/dryer, a walk-in shower and a large, custom made, pine cabinet, inset with a Mexican ceramic sink and with roomy drawers for clothes storage. Towels are supplied.

Fresh water comes from a deep, private well.

In our compact kitchen, the new appliances include a refrigerator with top freezer, a microwave and smooth-top electric range. (No dishwasher besides yourself.) Excellent fluorescent and LED lighting. Quality cookware, knives, dishes, glassware-- fully equipped except for your groceries.

There's a CD/radio/cassette player, a 13" TV (satellite dish connection) and DVD player with a few DVDs and CDs on hand. There's no land-line and no internet, but cellphone reception is excellent and when I use the cottage in late summer, I use an internet device on my laptop for internet. Phone book, maps and brochures are supplied at the cottage.

The 2-person canoe at our dock is equipped with life jackets and paddles, and the water is very clean for swimming and good for fishing-- mainly bass and pickerel.

There's a small, wood burning, steel fire pit for roasting hotdogs and marshmallows.

Beds: 1 Queen Bed, 1 Sofa Bed

About the area

On a private road shared by a handful of year-round neighbors, the cottage is secluded, quiet and private, surrounded by the beauty of Maine's woods. The lake is spring-fed, fish-full and people-free. Paddling around is a pleasure at any time of day. Augusta (8 miles) offers convenient shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Nearby towns offer antiques, country fairs, country stores and pretty pastures. The busy coast (40 minutes drive) has lots more to see and do-- lighthouses, souvenirs, scenic harbors, etc... “Great getaway”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2015

My husband and I stayed in this cottage for our honeymoon and it was beautiful. The weather was pretty chilly for us, but we are both Floridians, so that explains it. We enjoyed it and the opportunity to see such a beautiful part of the country though

“Absolutely Perfect!”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2015

The minute my husband-to-be and I discovered this place online, we knew it was exactly what we wanted for the first week of our honeymoon. We were not disappointed...in fact, it exceeded our already lofty expectations. We arrived late at night during a thunderstorm, so we couldn't really see anything. we awoke the next morning to a GLORIOUS view of the lake and our surroundings! The quiet, private and peaceful atmosphere was EXACTLY what we needed after our wedding! We will wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone. Thanks so much again, Ginger!

“Quiet, Romantic Maine Cottage”

We felt right at home upon arriving at this lovely secluded cottage. The path that led to the lake, the bench and the end of the path, and canoe ride were all awesome. Every thing was perfect. Thank you!

“Perfect place to get away.”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2014

My new bride and I were looking for a honeymoon spot. this place was exactly as described. The location is quiet except for wildlife. We didn't see anyone on the pond. The house was clean and had some cool weird artwork. The deck looking out to the pond was great for just hanging out on and enjoying each others company. Stores and places to eat are close enough to go grab something quick and easily. But given the right provisions you wouldn't need to leave at all. The kitchen had everything you need to make meals. In summation I would say this the perfect place to get away. If you want to get away to the woods.

“Perfect romantic getaway”

My boyfriend stayed for nearly a week in early June. We actually enjoyed our stay so much we extended it an extra day! The cabin itself is beautiful, much more spacious feeling than the photos implied, with a well appointed kitchen (which is perfect since we cook most of our meals together). The real thrill, however, was the location. So private and scenic! Our dog just loved being able to roam a bit. The view of the lake was picturesque, and the bass fishing was excellent! Especially when we took the canoe to the far side of the island. We can't wait to go back! Thanks Ginger!

Owner's reply: You'd be welcome any time, Patrick and Alexis! I'm very happy that you had such a good time.

“Beautiful and secluded, great place to relax”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

My wife and I went here for our honeymoon, and found it to be exactly what we were looking for: a quiet, secluded place where we could enjoy being together in the beauty of the forest. (It isn't far to town, though, and day outings to various places are really easy.) The cottage has a great feel-tons of wood and nice, warm color. The windows are nice and big, particularly along the back wall of the cottage, opening up the view nicely to the lake down the hill. One thing to look out for: don't jump in the lake, at least not off the wooden raft. There are some jagged rocks just out of sight beneath the surface of the water-probably not an issue if you're very light, but I could see someone getting scraped up a bit if they weren't careful. Other than that, though, the lake is very nice for swimming as well as canoeing. Overall a fantastic getaway-we highly recommend it!

“Great stay if you are in the area.”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2013

The property is exactly as it is described on the internet. No hidden negatives. The highlight of the property was the private and relatively quiet place to come back to after touring the area. Although we didn't get much use out of the lake, if you were into swimming or fishing it would be great. We never saw a person on it. The kitchen was well equipped if you want to eat at home. Having a front and back porch was very convenient as you could move around to suit the weather. A covered porch would have been ideal so you could sit outside during rains but that is minor. The only negatives would be the tiny TV (if TV is important to you) and the lack of any internet. Since there isn't a visitor center in the area, the internet would be useful in it's place. If we were going to be in the area, we would rent this house again.

“A Magical Place!!”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2013

My partner and I stated in this beautiful cottage for a week. It is everything it says and more. It's quiet and private . We had the lake all to ourselves for fishing and canoing. It is surrounded by nature and the house has a lot of light, it is very private. Kitchen very week equipped. Very clean. I can truly say we felt in love with this place. It was more than we expected. If you're going to visit Maine, Augusta is a good place to stay since it is not that far for places. Thank you Ginger! We will def. be back!

“Romantic cottage review”

Beautiful spot secluded in the woods but close enough to area attractions. Very nice camp but the walk down to the water was a bit steeper than expected.

“Private & Peacefull”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

This cottage is a great place to really get away from the all noise on a back country road and on a beautiful lake. You cant even tell that you're just minutes away from all the shopping and historical places in the state capital. The yard and patio allow you to do outdoor activities, but also enough space inside for those rainny days. I would deffinately suggest this as a place to stay, with just an easy scenic hour drive to the coast for ocean fun like a whale watch or stay close by and hit up all the attractions of Maine's capital. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon for 5 days, it was great. There was satelite tv for watching just before bed, fully equiped kitchen, grill on the patio. We used the canoe that is with the cottage for a day out on the private lake. We had alot of fun in Maine and at the end of the day it just simply felt good to come back to a private secluded area as opposed to staying at a crowded noisey hotel.

Owner's reply: I love sharing my cottage with honeymooners, artists and nature lovers! Thank you so much Don for this nice review.
