Description of the Bahia de Caraquez vacation condo rental
This property has been condemned after the earthquake hit the Ecuadorian coastline.

Jaime Holguin Perez

Area Information
Bahia de Caraquez Ecuador - Bahia de Caraquez became an Ecocity on February 23, 1999 due to the devastation caused by two natural disasters in 1997 and 1998: the "El Niño" phenomenon and an earthquake in august of the later year. Due to the high magnitude of destruction, Bahía had to completely reconstruct itself. Funding and consulting between Japanese organization ACTMANG, Fundación Stuarium and other public and private organizations in Bahía, the city was reconstructed in an ecological manner. The governing authorities of the District of Sucre made the Official Declaration and since then Bahía de Caráquez has been planning it's development within the sustainable principals of an Ecocity.

The city of Bahía de Caráquez is located in a sandy peninsula in the western coast of Ecuador. It has shown an important development during the last 15 to 20 years, since it has become one of the country's most attractive resort areas due to its beauty and relative closeness to the cities of Quito and Guayaquil, the two biggest cities in the country. It takes some five hours to reach Bahía by car from Quito and four hours from Guayaquil.

At present the population of Bahía may be estimated in 30.000 people located on the urban area and its surroundings. This population is substantially increased during the summer, due to the tourist affluence. In fact, August is usually a very busy time for the zone.

The peninsula is elongated to the N-NW direction and its coastal line has suffered important changes during the last 50 years. Those lands have been used later for developing the modern part of the city.

Bahia Condo

March 30, 2014

I stayed in this condo for the month of March 2014. The positives: - great location close to beach and all of Bahia easily walkable - great views from 6th floor - nice afternoon breezes through condo - although Heronimo (building super) did not speak English he was helpful and available - well above street so quiet except for the insomniac rooster next door - very secure location - condo was equipped with everything I needed, albeit many of the items were well used and quite old The Negatives: - condo a little over priced based on conversations I had with locals while I was there. - termites in the cupboards making a small but continual mess - bedding, couches clean but old and stained - TV was operational but was a small computer monitor, not that I watched a lot of tv. - there was no drinking water in the dispenser so made my own during the stay. Can be purchased for a few dollars locally. - condo could have been cleaner On the whole it was a good visit and I would stay here again although I would negotiate a bit harder on the price.

Owner's reply:

The termite problem on the coast is a continual battle--the above mentioned cupboard has been replaced. The love seat has been reupholstered. We don't use the tv and therefore have not invested in replacing the monitor which serves it's purpose. The 5 gallon water bottle could easily have been replaced as Wayne mentioned for a couple $$. Overpriced??? I disagree--search for another comparable.

The view from this property was great, as was the afternoon breeze that flowed thru the condo. The bed was comfortable, and except for the lack of a coffeemaker (which we purchased and left for the next renter), the kitchen was outfitted with everything we needed. The negatives were that when we arrived, the air conditioner wasn't working, we had no cable television connection, and no internet as promised. However, within four days, the air conditioner was fixed, the cable TV was hooked up, and the leasing agent provided a cellular broadband solution for internet.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

I stayed in the condo for a week in February of this year and had a wonderful experience. The town is accessible, and the beach and bay are only 4 blocks away. The water was wonderful. Am planning to return.

We have recently offered this condo for rent 12/2/2008 and do not have testimonials yet.
