Description of the Bald Head Island vacation home rental
"Time to Unwynd" is a wonderful oceanfront home on tranquil Bald Head Island, North Carolina in the Killegray/Flora's Bluff community. There is direct beach access, no roads to cross just a boardwalk directly from the house to the beach. You can sit on the front porch in your rocking chair and watch the dolphins swim by or sit on the upper deck off the master bedroom and have a direct view of frying pan shoals also known as Cape Fear.

Our home has one bedroom on the first floor with a private screen porch, en-suite bathroom, and two twin beds. The master is upstairs with a king-size bed, en-suite bathroom and private porch. The third bedroom upstairs has two twin beds and private bath. The fourth bedroom is in a separate guest house, called a "Crofter" just out the back door of the main house. The crofter is a second master and has a king bed and full bath. There are also two inflatable twin mattresses that can be used for additional sleeping.
The kitchen is fully stocked with most anything you would need. I always ask guests if I am missing anything and get great reviews on it being fully stocked.
Temporary memberships to the Shoals Club and the BHI Club are available for a small fee. Our membership in the BHI Club does allow for golf privileges, however, greens fees are an additional charge.

In the garage you will find two golf carts, one six passenger and one four passenger. Both installed with seat belts for your safety and the safety of your children. You MUST be a licensed driver to operate a golf cart on Bald Head Island.

Also in the garage you will find four adult size bikes, a large bucket full of sand and beach toys and beach chairs for your use. North Carolina law requires children under the age of 16 to wear a bicycle helmet. We try to keep a couple available in the garage for your use. However, feel free to bring your own.

All linens and towels are provided. High speed wireless internet access, unlimited long distance, and more are just some of the features of this home-away-from-home.

If you have never visited Bald Head before, there is a nice well stocked grocery store on the island. The grocery also carries a selection of wine and beer. Liquor is state controlled in North Carolina and sold at ABC stores. There is not an ABC store on Bald Head Island.

If you are flying to the area the closest airport is New Hanover International in Wilmington, NC.

Area Information
You can reach this subtropical island only by passenger ferry or private vessel. Amid the island’s 12,000 acres, you’ll find 10,000 untouched acres of beach, marsh and maritime forest preserves and intimate neighborhoods that respect the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Bald Head is the southernmost of North Carolina's cape islands, marked by the legendary Cape Fear. It's also the northernmost subtropical environment on the East Coast, making it a haven for a wide array of wildlife, including nearly 200 species of birds, dolphins, loggerhead turtles, alligators, deer, foxes, and an amazing variety of fish.

With beaches rimming its eastern, southern and western shores, the island's geography presents another remarkable phenomenon: the sun both rises and sets over the Atlantic Ocean each day.

With 10,000 of the island's 12,000 total acres set aside as nature preserves, choosing which environment to explore first can be a tough decision. Ocean beaches stretch for 14 miles, while a serpentine tidal creek, perfect for paddling a kayak or canoe, traverses the salt marsh. The maritime forest, with its miles of walking trails, beckons hikers with an enchanting mix of palms, live oaks, dogwoods and cedars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Walking on the wonderful beach!?
A: Each day on Bald Head I walk out the front door of Time to Unwynd and head to the beach to take a walk to Cape Fear. This is the point on the island where East Beach and South Beach come together. It is one of my most favorite places on earth. It is beautiful, unique and so peaceful.
