Description of the Bar Harbor vacation home rental

The Oceansedge property on Hulls Cove in Bar Harbor is generally considered far and away the best vacation rental property of its kind on the Maine Coast, for these 8 reasons:

(1) The Property – (2) the Home – (3) the Location – (4) the Views – (5) the Grounds – (6) the Ocean Frontage – (7) Acadia National Park – (8) Reputation

a) stature – a formal, elegant, and lavishly appointed ocean front home having a value of approximately $2 million.

b) acclaim – a perfect-score 5-star rating from every guest in 2014 and in 2015 (possibly a unique score among innumerable listings nationwide), plus 70 such endorsements in prior years. (See endorsements).

c) internationals standing – for 20 years, discriminating guests have included persons of world renown professional distinction, including some household names in this country and abroad.

(Companies and institutions represented include, among others: Harvard Medical School; Wall Street’s Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs; among banks, Bank of America and Wells Fargo and Barclays; numerous celebrated American law firms; plus recognized entities in the UK, Canada, Australia, Israel, France, Germany, Taiwan, and the Bahamas.)

d) following -- for 20 years, families have been returning year after year to the property considered a vacation rental of distinction.

e) services – a staff of 6 people and various on-call contractors oversee the property year-round and continuously improve it. They also provide or arrange virtually any on-request concierge service including, among others: catering, ad hoc housekeeping, sports equipment leasing (bicycles, kayaks), cosmetology, professional photographers, guide service for hunting and fishing, transportation to and from airports, etc.

f) unique feature: wildlife – a chief joy of most of our guests has been the opportunity to observe nearly approachable wildlife; as is possible only for a property in Bar Harbor as set apart and private as is the Oceansedge property at Hulls Cove.

(That wildlife includes: families of white tailed deer and their fawns, pet red squirrels and chipmunks, mallard ducks and ducklings in the property’s pond and streams; plus foxes, raccoons, and innumerable birds [eagles, owls, woodpeckers, songbirds, red tailed hawks, and some unusual arctic birds]).

g) year-round availability – year-round availability, including winter holidays.

2) the HOME

a) house – stunning, formal 2-story single-family home, a New England cape.

b) contents – antiques, art collections, 4 libraries, military artifacts, taxidermied Maine predators, and unique appointments discussed in the 9-page “Property Description” available to you on request.

(Art: 200-year old English lithographic hunting and coaching prints, numerous maritime prints by famed John Stobart, depictions of New England landscapes and seascapes by Stow Wengenroth, vintage World War II prints by Alberto Varga, illustrations by N C Wyeth and Howard Pyle, antiquarian battle maps, various original oil paintings by Maine artists, etc.)

c) decor - traditional decor, including: oriental rugs; cherry and mahogany furnishings; hardwood floors; brass and crystal lighting, historic Vanderbilt wall sconces.

d) bedrooms – 4 bedrooms, sleeps 10 or more; 2nd-story bedrooms have French doors & walk-out decks overlooking ocean

e) bathrooms – 4 ½ baths, ensuite for each bedroom

f) kitchen – lavishly equipped kitchen; vaulted ceiling; large; sunlit bright for: 3 skylights, 18 track lights, LED under-cabinet lights, 2 ocean-facing picture windows, and french door opening to ocean-facing kitchen deck.

(Several collections of china and glassware and silverware, plus virtually every conceivable cooking device, appliances, and tools along with Calphalon cookware and lobster cookware).

g) libraries - 4 libraries: a formal library plus additional library collections in the living room and in two bedrooms; one of the largest of private libraries and includes extensive antiquarian collections.

h) eating areas – 5 eating areas, all with ocean views: formal dining room with french door (seats 8); kitchen also with french door (seats 6); deck off kitchen (seats 4); brick patio off living room and dining room (4 tables - seats 14); deck at the beach (seats 4)

I) audio/visual – Direct TV connections and a wireless internet connection to 5 large flat-screen TVs (3 bedrooms, kitchen, and library), plus both Bose and Pioneer surround sound systems.

j) 3 fireplaces

k) new and biggest-made Maytag washer/dryers equal to the needs of numerous guests, with commensurate hot water volume.

l) security system, safety devices – an onsite and remotely monitored security alarm system providing protection against intrusion in every room, and as to smoke or fire or carbon monoxide.

a) ocean frontage – actual on-the-ocean shore frontage.

b) neighborhood - a quiet and distinguished neighborhood enclave, consisting of perhaps a dozen or more oceanfront homes of obvious distinction. Located on a 100-acre peninsula surmounted by a spruce and pine hilltop, circumnavigated by a private-road. In Bar Harbor, on the shoreline of Hulls Cove, overlooking Frenchmans Bay and its islands, and the North Atlantic beyond.

(Hulls Cove was the original 19th century epicenter of the town (then called Eden), and the location of several Gilded Age mansions along with a pier near the subject property, which received from tenders the owners of the world’s greatest yachts and the admirals of the American Great White Fleet.)

c) privacy – private, posted neighbohood assocaition road, leading to also-posted 1,000' driveway to house at the edge of the ocean

d) absence of noise, traffic, and crowds – The set-apart aspect of the subject property, which is highly
unusual relative to most rental properties in Bar Harbor and on the Island, ensures quiet, privacy, solitude, personal safety.

4) the VIEWS

a) South-facing views – the Cadillac Mountain range, Acadia National Park, active Bar Harbor waterfront, the Town harbor and its boat basin, the Porcupine Islands chain, gorgeous sunrise and moonrise views over the North Atlantic beyond.

b) Action – within hailing distance of working lobster boats. The Bar Harbor Yacht Club fleet active on opposite shore of Hulls Cove

c) Subjects – view of the anchorage for the world's most famous cruise ships (Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary) and a mansion-studded shoreline.

d) Ambiance – The subject home faces directly south toward the oncoming sea breezes: the sight and sound and smell of the moving ocean.

5) the GROUNDS

a) entrance – 1.5 acres beginning at pink granite walled entrance. Meticulously maintained and extensively illuminated grounds. Including 4 ponds descending 1000' driveway through the woods to: the house, gardens, a house-flanking murmuring brook, and paramount ocean views.

b) approach - parking area and approach to the front door circumnavigate beachstone walls, rare ostrich ferns, and crushed pink granite stone from Rockefeller estate.

c) oceanside - patios and decks, broadlawn ocean vistas.

a) waterfront access – direct water access to private beachfront, over pink granite steps from backyard lawn to deck at the beach.

b) kayaking – "anytime" kayaking from the beach below the subject property, over Hulls Cove toward Bar Harbor Yacht Club, past Gilded Age shorefront homes and intervening hotels and restaurants, to the Town’s marina, and to the islands beyond.

c) sunset deck at beach – dining table and deck furniture, proximate to working lobster boats, passing and basking seals and seal pups, views of Bar Harbor’s boat basin including cruise ships on display in port.

d) lighting – the waterfront portion of the property offers optional floodlighting such that watching the ocean waves can be as much enjoyed at night as during the days, under “daylight” white floodlights, or in blue and green.

e) unobstructed views and privacy – although a public-way Shore Path separates most shorefront homes in Bar Harbor from the shoreline, the Shore Path does not exist, at all, in the Hulls Cove neighborhood; no coming and going of walkers and gawkers compromise our guests’ ocean views, nor their privacy.

f) mooring -- on-request mooring is available for small and large boats.

a) proximity -- subject property located within 1 mile (walking/bicycling distance) of the official Reception Center for Acadia National Park

b) things to do – the Park’s 30,000 acres include 100 miles of car-less bicycling and jogging, past lakes and ponds and mountain vistas, plus additional mountain climbing and hiking and fishing and swimming opportunities, all leading to and from the several shoreline villages and towns on Mountain Desert Island.

c) incomparability – few if any other significant rental properties can claim the same distinguishing convenience of being so proximate to the Park’s Reception Center.

(Acadia is the 2nd most-visited of the National Parks because Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island are considered among the most beautiful places in North America. The Park was encouraged by Teddy Roosevelt, organized by Harvard visionaries, and largely capitalized by the Rockefellers).

(8) Reputation

Owned for 35 years. Leased during “the season” (and now in off-season weeks as well) for the most recent 20 years.

Arguably the best luxury rental property of its kind on the Maine Coast. You should come.
Area Information
The property is located in Hulls Cove (originally Eden), an historic neighborhood within the Town of Bar Harbor, Maine.

Legendary Bar Harbor is the largest, most active, and most prominent community on Mount Desert Island, which is located on the Downeast Maine coastline.

Mount Desert Island predominantly consists of the 30,000-acre Acadia National Park, one of the most beautiful places in America. Ite recreational resources are virtually boundless.
Attractions within Walking Distance
Although not necessarily within walking distance, but plausibly within bicycle distance, the Reception Center for the 30,000-acre Acadia National Park and its 50 miles of vehicle-free crushed gravel "carriage roads" is located within 1 mile of the subject property.
Nearby Restaurants
The Chart Room, in business for 30 years under the same owner, is located ON the ocean, within 1 mile of the subject property. It is the most popular (800+ seatings per day) restaurant in Bar Harbor and on Mount Desert Island in general, and indeed down the Maine coast. Adjoining beach. Beautiful ocean views. Lobsters, of course.
The subject property is located on a private and posted road intended for the use of only the residents and guests of approximately a dozen or more homeowners. That private road circumnavigates the shores of a peninsula reaching into the ocean at Hulls Cove in Bar Harbor. This is the most exclusive neighborhood and most historic community in Bar Harbor.

Therefore, happily, there is absolutely no public transportation at the subject property.
Best Time of the Year to Travel
Winter for its serenity and stunning winter landscapes and exhilarating ocean storms, the company of easy-to-see wildlife, plus snowmobiling and cross country skiing. A snug house at Hulls Cove, caretakers on call.

Spring for its long hours of sunlight (twilight after 9:00 p.m.), resplendent spring blossoms, the company of fawns in the backyard and ducklings on the ponds on the property, visits by migrating birds leaving for the Arctic or returning from the South, the renewal of boat cruises and kayaking expeditions, and hiking past the melting cataracts of ice and the rushing streams in Acadia's 30,000 mountainous and shoreline acres.

Summer, the peak of activities of all kinds. Cool onshore ocean breezes at the south-facing subject property. Moonrises and sunsets over the ocean horizon, as seen from the ocean deck at the foot of the subject property.

Autumn, for spectacularly colorful foliage up and down the escarpments and through the valleys of Mt. Desert Island, lush weather during the days and crisp evenings, the beginning of thrilling surf along the ocean shorelines. Peaceful, for hunting, and the corresponding killing of Mount Desert Island's nearly tame and approachable wildlife, being comprehensively prohibited.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities
The Oceansedge property offers the following 10 benefits which, considered together, make the property unique:

(1) the property value - (2) the home - (3) location (1 mile to Acadia National Park) - (4) neighborhood and environs - (5) actual ocean frontage - (6) safer shoreline - (7) uncompromised privacy - (8) wildlife - (9) endorsements - (10) 20-year reputation

(1) The property value

This oceanfront property, which has a market value approaching two million dollars, is a luxury vacation rental intended for discriminating families and individuals from throughout the US and abroad for 20 years.

(2) The home

This oceanfront home is an elegant, luxury, 4-bedroom & 4.5-bathroom, 2-story New England Cape, situated on the shoreline in Bar Harbor.

(3) Views

The property offers on-the-ocean south-facing views of the Cadillac Mountain Range, the Town’s waterfront, the Porcupine Islands, and the North Atlantic beyond.

(3) Location of the property, and Acadia National Park

The property is located on a 1,000' private and posted road in historic neighborhood in Bar Harbor, Maine.

The property is located within 1 mile of main entrance (the Reception Center) to the 30,000-acre Acadia National Park.

(4) Neighborhood and environs

The subject property is one of approximately a dozen oceanfront homes comprising a private enclave on a peninsula on Hulls Cove, the most desirable and historic neighborhood in Bar Harbor, Maine for almost 150 years.

Bar Harbor is the largest and most active community on Mount Desert Island, with scores of superior resort hotels and as many excellent restaurants.

Mount Desert Island predominantly comprises the 30,000-acre Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park is the 2nd-most-visited national park and is arguably the most beautiful ocean-fronting national park on either side of the continent.

(5) Actual ocean frontage

The subject property is truly on the ocean.

(6) safer shoreline

Unlike many other properties on Mount Desert Island’s shoreline, this property is free of steep cliffs and rip currents that would make difficult or dangerous access to the shore and to the ocean water itself, not to mention being a mortal danger to children or to the elderly.

The subject property is ideal for kayaking.

(7) Unobstructed oceanfront, unimpeded views, unlimited water access, and complete privacy.

A public-way “Shore Path” commonly divides (often with metal fencing) the ocean shore from the ocean-side lawns of some of the otherwise desirable oceanfront properties in Bar Harbor.

The Shore Path does not exist, at all, in the Hulls Cove neighborhood.

Our guests therefore enjoy ocean views unobstructed by fences, hedges, gates, or the like.

They can also enjoy the backyard patios and decks in privacy from gawkers.

They can descend to the beach at any time in order to launch a kayak, or be alone with the sound of the waves.

(8) Wildlife

For noise and traffic and crowds not being a factor at the Hulls Cove property, a chief joy of our guests has consisted of observing wildlife in the very backyard of the property, night and day, as would be utterly impossible at other rental properties located near the din of Main Street.

(Wildlife: white tailed deer and their fawns; pet red squirrels and chipmunks; mallard ducks and ducklings in the property’s pond and streams; foxes and raccoons; innumerable birds [eagles, owls, ospreys, woodpeckers, songbirds, red tailed hawks, and arctic birds]).

9) Endorsements

Available upon request: 150 photos; 100 comments provided by previous guests; and an illustrated 9-page description of the home and property.

10) Reputation

This is our 20th season.

Perfect Vacation Home for All Ages!

August 23, 2016

This is a whole hearted recommendation for this properly right on an ocean cove in coastal Maine. Because it is virtually perfect I am amazed that there are no other reviews posted on this site. My family and I have rented this property for two weeks in August in both 2015 and 2016. We are three generations, I am the mother and the grandmother, accompanied by my two daughters and their husbands , and my two grandsons, now ages 11 and 14. This home is perfect for us all, and accommodates all ages. Our two weeks each year were so wonderful for all of us and we never felt cramped. There are two very large bedrooms on the second floor facing the ocean cove, open to the ocean breeze, a big bedroom on the first with four beds, and another bedroom with a fully handicapped accessible bath. There is a beautiful living room looking out at the water, a large library, a lovely dining room and a very nice kitchen equipped with virtually every piece of cooking equipment any chef would want. Indeed, the house is so beautiful that you will rarely want to go out for dinner. There are many televisions in the house, so all ages can watch to their taste. There is also a nice sound system in the home, and WiFi so each person's computer/gadget will work. The house is actually amazing, with beautiful rugs, lovely treasures and books, and comfortable furniture throughout. Indeed, it feels as if this beautiful home has a soul. Both years, I felt as if I had arrived home upon arrival, and despaired to leave. After staying in this property twice, I cannot imagine why you would ever go to a hotel oir anywhere else in coastal Maine near Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. There are so many activities so near, but the property is so lovely, you may want to just sit on the lawn and look out at perfection. And, the property abounds with animals, including chipmunks who will eat out of your hand, ducks, birds and deer. The co-owner is readily available by email to answer any questions and assist if needed. Once you stay at this property, you will want to return often! It is virtually perfect.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

"Each person in our party of eight would highly recommend this home"

Although we live in the West, if ever we are fortunate enough to find ourselves near Acadia National Park in Maine again, we will know just where to stay.

This Hulls Cove home is perfectly appointed, beautiful, serene, and comfortable in every way. Though our party had come with the intention of seeing the national park, we joked more than once about forgetting our plans for Acadia in favor of remaining in the perfect oceanside setting and beauty of the home.

That said, this was the ideal, convenient location for visiting spectacular Acadia and the surrounding area.
The owner of the home, meticulous for detail, was beyond gracious, kind, and accommodating.

We were delighted to find the flag from our home state flying to greet us upon our arrival.

We felt in every way as though we were visiting the home of an old friend in the sense that everything we needed had been taken care of, the door was open, the lights were one, everything was perfectly clean and comfortable, and our favorite books were on the shelves.

Each person in our party of eight would highly recommend this home--of many vacation rental homes over the years, our favorite!

We spent a week in early September.

Like another reviewer, we arrived at the time of a full moon, the "super" moon.

Beautiful on the Bay!

Everything was great.

First time in Maine. Have spent many vacations in the Outer Banks. This home far exceeded any that we stayed at in North Carolina.

The house was immaculate. Very well equipped with everything needed.

The location is great - convenient to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, etc, - but still very private.

We especially enjoyed being able to relax in addition to seeing all the sights, eating out (and in).

Mr. Dyer was very accommodating. He definitely wanted us to have a great vacation.

Would recommend to anyone.

I wish we could have stayed longer.

"Breathtaking views and home -- Exactly as pictured"

This home is as perfect as one can get, down to plates on the table on our arrival.

The items supplied were more than we expected!

The owner is gracious and easily accessible.

We would recommend to all!

Our stay at Hulls Cove was wonderful: the house is beautiful and so are the grounds and views.

A lovelier sunrise I have never seen.

The house is perfectly maintained with all amenities provided - down to deer, squirrel, and duck food!

It is very spacious and comfortable, and is beautifully furnished.

It felt like being at home, rather than a rental property.

The location is very convenient for exploring Acadia National Park (minutes away!) And the area.

The owner was very helpful, before and throughout our stay.

We would definitely recommend this handsome house to anyone who appreciates beauty, comfort and quality, and would ourselves love to come back!

"A wonderful time"

It has been a great pleasure and honor to stay in your home these past two weeks. We had a wonderful time. I am so heartened to know that there are such incredible people in the world like you who care about animals, and take the time to be their caretaker and advocate. I am going to miss the squirrels, red and gray, the birds, the ducks, and most of all the deer.

We would like to come back to visit in the summer and/or possibly in the spring.

Thank you again. We remain grateful for the opportunity.

"Amazing is all I can say"

We really don't want to leave but today we must!

Good news for you . . . there were 17 deer here last night, two Red Squirrels (assume they're mates as they were arguing the whole time) and the Chipmunk - oh, and a million ducks.

Amazing sunrise this morning.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for letting us stay at your wonderful residence - amazing is all I can say. The view, the animals, the comfort . . . it really made a winter visit really quite worthwhile!

Again, loved the place, the area and we will be back!

"Wonderful Vacation Home" - *****

Very lovely home in great location.

Right on the water.

Private yet close to town.

We rented this home from May 23 through May 30, 2015.

Lovely outdoor setting with lots of flowers beautiful landscaping. Also beautiful roomy interior.

Our party has six people and we could've easily accommodated more. The home is a great place to relax is there are many wonderful books available to enjoy the library, as well as all modern amenities one could possibly desire.

We will certainly consider coming back in the future

"Perfect home for relaxing and enjoying Bar Harbor"- *****

We rented this home for two weeks at the end of May and into June 2015.

My only issue is, our schedule would not allow us to stay a month.

This amazing home is well-kept.

The owner was very attentive to our special requests and needs, both prior to and during our stay.

The home was close to everything we wanted to enjoying Bar Harbor. But it's location and grounds made us feel like we were away from it all.

We traveled with our married adult children. We had six adults, one 3-year-old, and two babies in our group. There was plenty of room for everyone.

The adults and our three-year-old granddaughter loved watching and feeding the wildlife in the property.

We enjoyed the days we spent relaxing at the home just as much as the days we got out and enjoy the area. If we could spend a month here every year we would!

I can sincerely say without hesitation we would rent this home again!

"Amazing!!! And close to everything!" - *****

This property is amazing!!!

We were so fortunate as we arrived on a full moon interviews from the backyard underneath the canopy of the trees to the water was amazing!!
The accommodations were wonderful for family. We spent our mornings leisurely enjoying nature, breakfast on the outdoor patio . . . Couldn't have asked for more.

Close to everything.

Acadia national Park is just moments away as is Bar Harbor.

All rooms were large and comfortable. Large dining areas conducive to family get-togethers.

Our children are all in their 20s. So there was something for everyone close by: wineries, craft beer, hiking, and wonderful restaurants!

"Perfect Coastal Maine Retreat" - *****

This is a beautiful home situated on beautifully landscaped grounds overlooking the ocean near Acadia national Park and Bar Harbor Maine.

There is no five-star hotel that is anymore lovely, comfortable, or better situated than this home. It is lovely, exquisitely decorated and furnished, and perfectly equipped with room for three generations of one family.

The owners immediately responsive to any request. But the property is so well maintained that there is virtually nothing lacking when it comes to comfort and beauty, and there's nothing really to ask for beyond what is already provided.

The home is spotlessly clean inside. The grounds are pleasingly maintained outside.

There is an abundance of wildlife: deer, docks, chipmunks, and squirrels which delight young and old alike.

All any family needs to bring is their clothes, as all other items are provided, including sheets, towels, and high-end kitchen equipment and appliances.

Activities nearby include hiking and swimming in one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. And there are lovely restaurants in nearby Bar Harbor, Northeast harbor, and Southwest Harbor.

This home is one of the most beautiful and serene spots I ever stayed in.

So much so that we are planning to return next year for another two weeks.

I would recommend this property to anyone who loves beauty, ocean views, and the best of coastal Maine.

"I miss it terribly":

We have arrived at Hulls Cove and It is everything we had hoped for and so much more. It is enchantingly perfect! It is beautiful and so warm, cozy and inviting. Everything was just as it should be.

It's our second full day at Hulls Cover and already we have fallen in love with it. I know there are many lovely areas around here for us to see but I cannot believe that they are any more beautiful than your Hulls Cove.

Your lovely home is now beginning to feel like our home and we are enjoying every aspect of it. Waking up here each morning here is a joy and a blessing.

This has been an amazing holiday. Your home has provided such a cozy place for us return every day after our many adventures.

All of our friends thought it was so inviting and loved every minute they were there. It was relaxing, peaceful and serene and afforded us many happy hours.

It has been a pleasure to work with you and I am so appreciative that your family is willing to share your lovely home with us.

We have been gone from Hulls Cove now for a full week and I have to admit that I miss it terribly.

What a charming house! You have made it very comfortable and very interesting. We're enjoying your prints, paintings, and object d'art. It goes without saying, your book collections is very inviting.

First, I'd like to say how lovely your house is. We're so lucky to get to spend a whole week here.

Thank you for all your hard work. The house is lovely and comfortable.

My family and I thank you for a lovely stay in your very welcoming and comfortable home. The location was perfect; so beautiful and so Maine.

All of us from the baby to the grandparents enjoyed your picturesque home and grounds. We also delighted in your interesting e-mails . . .

Four-year-old E was in tears on our last morning she did not want to leave. She loved feeding the animals:

The chipmunks actually ate out of her hand. We liked all the animals: They were entertaining.

We did many fun activities. We hiked, had fantastic popovers with strawberry jam at the Jordan Pond House, went on a sunset sail on the Margaret Todd, ate fabulous lobsters, had blueberry pancakes at Jordan's on Cottage Street, and played on Sand Beach.

My younger son, T and I experienced sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. Surprisingly there were about sixty other nutty enthusiasts present.

Thank you for sharing your gracious home and for taking such good care of us. We had a marvelous time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: 1) Is the property actually in Bar Harbor?
A: It is.
Q: 2) is the property actually on the ocean?
A: Yes, it is.
Q: 3) Are there any intervening public walkways (e.g., Bar Harbor’s “Shore Path”) separtaing the property from the ocean and compromising privacy?
A: No, the property enjoys complete privacy.

For the same reason, there are no hedges or fences or the like impeding the ocean view, as are necessary for some properties bisected by the Shore Path.

No, there are no cliffs or precipices.

Instead, pink granite steps land a railing ead down from the backyard lawn to an oceanfront deck.

At night, floodlights in tree limbs above the deck illuminate the steps, the deck, and the beach and ocean waves as well, for hundreds of feet toward the ocean.
Q: 4) Is the descent to the beach subject to cliffs and dangerous precipices?
A: No, there are no cliffs or precipices.

Instead, pink granite steps land a railing ead down from the backyard lawn to an oceanfront deck.

At night, floodlights in tree limbs above the deck illuminate the steps, the deck, and the beach and ocean waves as well, for hundreds of feet toward the ocean.
Q: 5) Is the property on a public street or highway such that it would be unsafe for children, or there would be sounds of crowds and congested traffic?
A: No, the property is on a private and posted road.

The road circumnavigates a 50-acre oceanfront peninsula containing only an enclave of private homes.

A 1000' driveway descends from that private road to the house, which is at the beach on Hulls Cove.
Q: 6) What is the nature of the neighborhood?
A: Hulls Cove is Bar Harbor’s most historic neighborhood.

It has always been the town’s most desirable residential neighborhood.

This is a private, placid, peaceful, and elegant neighborhood.

In this neighborhood, wildlife abounds, because of the quiet and safe surroundings.

Perhaps one of the main joys for children (and for adults) coming to the property consists of seeing up-close nearly tame deer and birds and mallard ducks who live on and around the property.
Q: 7) Can guests arrange for kayaks to be available on arrival, and can they then launch kayaks directly from the property’‘s beach?
A: Yes, and yes.

There is arguably no better place for ocean kayaking than Hulls Cove.

Some of the factors: safer waters, both because of the immediate cove and the Town’s breakwater; views of the oceanfront Gilded Age mansions not so visible from landside; proximity to the Town dock, the chain of islands, and shorefront restaurants and hotels
Q: 8) Distance to Acadia National Park?
A: The Reception Center for Acadia Nationial Park’s 30,000 acres is just one mile from the property, on the other side of Hulls Cove. It is the starting point for 50 miles of car-less “carriage roads” recahing to every village and town of the 40,000-acre island.

The roads are ideal for bicycling, jogging, hiking. They are also the means to mountain climbing, fishing, camping, swimming, observing birds and wildlife, and just about any outdoor activity envisioned by an LL Bean catalogue.
