Located in a lovely landscape
This winery estate is situated in the Chianti region, one of the most beautiful stretches of land in central Tuscany - in the Val d'Elsa. Florence is only 30 km and Siena only 35 km away. Embedded in a green landscape, the view takes in the house's own vineyards and olive groves as well as fields lined by cypresses and forests. In one direction you see a Romanesque church dating back to the 10th century, in the other direction you have a view of the towers of medieval San Gimignano in the distance - providing the eye and mind with an all-round relaxing, peaceful backdrop. Podere Appiano is in operation as an azienda agricola and the farm cultivates more than 50 ha of the surrounding land. You can purchase the products of the fattoria (farm), including Chianti DOCG, Rosso IGT, Vinsanto, Grappa, Grappa Riserva and olive oil, on site.
The farm's origins date back to the period around 1800. There are seven apartments altogether. The apartments are located in three different buildings, therefore guests enjoy a lot of space and privacy. All buildings were fully renovated in the year 2005. The property captivates you with its unpretentious, modern elegance. Efforts have been taken to select a clear, more contemporary line of furnishings. Nonetheless, materials typical for the region were used during restoration: the clay bricks on the ceilings, the silver-grey Pietra-Serena stone of the fireplaces, the wood used for doors and windows as well as the heavy roof beams create a sense of warmth and cosiness.
Each apartment is equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, a microwave/oven, coffee machine, a hair dryer and a safe. Several of them have a fireplace. All of them have outdoor seating arrangements with selected garden furniture (table and chairs) for enjoying meals outdoors. Guests may share the large swimming pool including a children's pool area, as well as the sun terrace and sun beds. In addition, there is a barbecue, a common laundry room with appliances for ironing, a small fitness room with several exercising machines and last but not least a small sauna for two - a rarity in Italy!
It is possible to request breakfast on site at an extra charge (you may join in the breakfast buffet). In the fashion typical for Italy this consists of a small, sweet breakfast with caffé (coffee) or caffé latte (milk coffee), rolls, sweet pastries and various kinds of jam. Upon request on site cooking classes are available - this service is payable on site. At the reception, the friendly staff will strive to meet your wishes and can, for instance, make reservations for restaurants or arrange for a babysitter. Once a week there is a wine tasting, and the products of the farm (olive oil, grappa etc.) are presented.
You can go shopping in Barberino Val d'Elsa, approx. 3 km away. In the village of Barberino there are two bars, a butcher, the best pizzeria far and wide, a wine shop, a hairdresser's, a pharmacy and a post office. If you need a good supermarket you can choose between the one in Tavarnelle, where there is a weekly market every Thursday on the piazza or, even better, the large Coop supermarket (with an overwhelming delicatessen counter) in Poggibonsi, about 10 minutes away by car. The next restaurant with a panoramic garden terrace can be reached on foot - a nice walk of about 10-15 minutes. (If you prefer to walk, it might be a good idea to take along a flashlight as the path to the restaurant is not lit). In the near vicinity there is a number of other smaller trattorias and restaurants offering specialties - in this region you can try out a different restaurant every night! The famous medieval town of San Gimignano is only about 18 km away.
Additional amenities: Children play ground with toys, Children's pool area, Coffee machine, DVD player, Dishwasher only in the 4+2 units, Fireplace in some units, Laundry room with appliances for ironing, Microwave/oven, Outdoor area for each unit, Pool: 7 x 15m / shared pool, Small sauna and small fitness room
