Description of the Barkhamsted vacation home rental
This turn-of-the-century, family. year round lake lodge is in the township of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. It is in the foothills of the Berkshires, nestled at the northwest bank of Connecticut's clearest lake, West Hill Lake. The owner retained the nostalgic feel of a comfortable antique lake home while updating it with state-of-the-art insulation and central heating. The original fireplace was of course retained as well. The architecture is in the style of Adirondack arts and crafts. Much of the furnishings are of that style as well.

There are four bedrooms each with direct access to a full bathroom. All four bedrooms open onto an interior balcony which overlooks the living room and a bank of windows. There are enough beds in bedrooms to make the regular sleeping accomodations total 10.There are more cozy nooks around the house with studio beds which, in certain circumstances can accomodate 2 more. Renters have the option of renting a completely separate apartment on the far end of the house. This apartment is not rented to other tenants if lessee chooses not to rent it. It is offered for rent primarily for tenants who need a ground level bedroom or just an extra private bedroom. The country kitchen, family room is spacious, as well as the living and dining area and library alcove area.

The old fashioned wrap-around porch overlooks the lake, a large party size dock, boat house, kayak rack, and a small, easy wade in beach. The property is woodsy and natural with walking and biking trails nearby.

There are plenty of other quaint New England villages nearby as well. They provide lots of restaurants, theaters, museums and specialty shops.

Area Information
Barkhamsted is a rural township, not a town. Not to worry that you are far from conveniences as there is the vibrant town of Winsted and several shopping centers only one and a half miles from the house. Even though it is rural, there are many interesting, quaint and some bustling towns nearby. They all tell the 'New England' story. The Litchfield Hills are alive with the sound of music. The Yale summer school of music is in Norfolk, 20 minutes straight west on Rt. 44. Tanglewood, Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home is an hour away. That's just to name a few of many music venues. There are stage and movie theatres as well. Children, large and small (not too small) will enjoy the Farmington River tubing, 6 miles away. There is also a miniature golf course, go-cart raceing and batting cages only 3 miles away.

For day trips consider: New York City, Cape Cod, Boston, Plymouth, New Haven, Mystic Seaport and The GoodSpeed Opera House/ Gillette Castle just across the Connecticut River.
