Description of the Bayside vacation cottage rental
Enjoy an old-fashioned family vacation in Bayside! The Penobscot Cottage welcomes you to a comfortable, relaxing Maine getaway. Our historic home has beckoned to rusticators since the early 1880s. Surrounded by green leafy grounds with a classic wraparound screened porch, you will be a short walk from the panoramic view of Penobscot Bay that makes Bayside one of the most desirable spots on the Maine coast. Downstairs is a well provided kitchen where you can make popovers, boil lobster or prepare a platter of local cheeses. The dining room will host organic feasts from the farmer's market or Scrabble games after you clear the table. In the living room, there are several spots to settle down with a good book or you can watch videos or listen to music. However, you're likely to spend most of your time rocking on the porch looking out over the bay. Enjoying breakfast in the morning sun on the porch will be one of your favorite memories. The full bath with a claw foot tub and shower is downstairs, as well as the washer and dryer.

Upstairs are three bedrooms that have not changed in more than 100 years. The largest bedroom has a queen bed as well a twin, and the two others both have full beds. There's also a half-bath.

The Penobscot Cottage has a large yard with off-street parking. There's room even for your boat trailer.

Area Information
Bayside is an ocean lover's Paradise. The "main common" is a large park that sweeps down to the waterfront. There you can launch your boat, swim under the lifeguard's watchful eye, dive off the dock at high tide, or set out on a kayak tour of the Bay. Young children love the playground and teens practice on the basketball court or hang out with the crowd on the dock. If your child wants to take sailing lessons, it's easy to sign up for the Northport Yacht Club Sailing School. If you enjoy golf, bring your clubs to the public 9-hole Northport Golf club, a short walk from the cottage.

Bayside is well located to explore the best part of the Maine coast. Just 3 miles north is the charming city of Belfast, boasting great shopping, a cinema, and art galleries. South is Lincolnville and its lobster pound and the ferry to Isleboro. Further south are the tourist meccas of Camden, Rockport and Rockland. Just north of Belfast is Searsport with great antique stores and the Penobscot Maritime Museum. Acadia National Park is an easy and unforgettable day trip.

Escape into Past

August 31, 2015

We stayed there for one week - and it was like an excursion to the past. Many cottages like ours, gathering in a park - round a place, very close to the sea. The atmosphere - all very friendly people, swimming, fishing, the little village of Belfast all was very nice and interesting. In the house we found everything very clean, plenty of kitchen-stuff, games to play and nice atmosphere by electric lightening, cosy sofas and relaxing swinging matt ouside. The only minus was a smell of humidity, obviously due to the humid climate. But we had all windows open and therefore no problem after the first day.

Owner's reply:

Thank you Angelika!

A Step Back In Time

July 28, 2014

It is difficult to put into words how much we enjoyed our week at Penobscot Cottage in Bayside! This charming retreat is a throwback to yesteryear with eclectic furnishings including period antiques, childhood memories, and seaside charm. There was plenty to do and nothing to be done all at the same time. Close to local attractions including Acadia National Park, golf, boating and any number of outdoor activities, one of our favorite things was rocking on the front porch and gazing at the Bay. A nightly stroll to the dock to view the sunset did not disappoint! Come 9PM, the lights were out and there was not a sound to be heard outside. PEACE. That's what we found at Penobscot Cottage! Much needed and much appreciated! We are already looking forward to a return trip next summer!

Owner's reply:

Thanks so much Maura. You've captured what is special about our cottage and Bayside.

Penobscot Cottage, lovely get away

March 12, 2014

Summer 2013 my husband and I stayed in this immaculate, cozy, quiet cottage in a historic Maine community. We enjoyed the local community theatre, town of Belfast Scottish games, restaurants, and farmer's market; accessed WiFi in the Belfast Public Library; hiked Acadia National Park a few times as a day trip from the cottage. Cottage is very comfortable and a lovely place to relax. Owner is very responsive to questions and helpful in providing information about the area.

Owner's reply:

Thank you Connie! I'm so glad you found places to enjoy hiking.
