Trails around the Bethel area started with the advent of snowmobiles in the 1960's. The next trail project (1989-1991) was laid on the east side of Mt. Will with the primary objective of increasing public awareness of the natural resources and beauty of the Androscoggin River valley. During 1994, a walking trail from the River View Resort to the Department of Transportation picnic area on Route 2 about three and one-half miles north of Bethel village was completed. In 1995, the Town of Bethel with developers of Bethel Station conceived of a pedestrian pathway along the Androscoggin River as an enhancement for the retail complex planned at Bethel Station. In 2005, the State of Maine built a recreational bridge over the Androscoggin River that would carry snowmobiles, pedestrians and bikers over the river-also extending the Bethel Pathway . Between 2006 and 2008, a combined walking, biking and snowmobile trail was extended into the Mayville section of Bethel on the north side of the Androscoggin River

It was 1958 when a handful of skiers climbed Locke Mountain and cut Sunday River's first trails down through the Maine woods. Since then, their spirit of exploration and adventure inspired the generations that followed as those trails grew into a network that spans eight mountain peaks.

“Great for a ski weekend”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2016

Roomy, comfortable house. Very well appointed and located between Mt. Abram and Sunday River. We had a great time and would love to go back!

“Ski trip with college kids”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2016

This house was perfect for our trip to Sunday River for College week. I had 3 college kids with me and we really enjoyed the house and all its amenities. Very warm, comfortable and clean. The kitchen had everything necessary for cooking meals for hungry kids! The skiing was excellent too!!! I would highly recommend this house, and hope to go back soon!

“Great place to stay near Sunday River”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2016

We have rented this house four years in a row to hit the slopes at Sunday River. Each time we have come with 6 to 8 people and found the place to be a perfect rental. Ample room for everyone, this year the kids were watching TV on the main floor living room and the parents were able to enjoy some quiet time in the lower level family room. Great having the washer and dryer available to wash and dry face masks and dry our wet gloves from a day of skiing. Lower level tiled area is great spot for laying out ski jackets and ski pants to dry out. Other places we rented didn't have an area like this which meant ski stuff was every where. About a 10-15 minute easy ride from the mountain. Great values for the money ... great layout with living room, dining area and kitchen, ... never disappoints ... kids look forward to coming each year and so do the parents. Owners easy to work with, have always checked with us after our stay to make sure everything was enjoyable and to be sure if something wasn't right that it be fixed for the next group coming in. Will return again next winter.

“Fantastic Rental!”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2015

I recently planned a girls weekend for 5 women and we rented this house for a long weekend in August 2015. The house was fantastic and came fully stocked with everything you would need; all we had to bring was food and drinks. We all had plenty of room to spread out and with two full bathrooms and 5 women, that came in handy. There was a minor plumbing issue while we were staying there, but we contacted the owners right away and they said they would take care of it immediately and were very pleasant to deal with. The open kitchen/dining/living room was great for entertaining and the back deck was great for afternoon drinks and appetizers. We were able to do a trail ride at a nearby horse farm and have a private yoga lesson at the house, so there were lots of different activities in the area to choose from. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone looking to stay in the Bethel/Sunday River area any time of the year.

“Great family getaway home”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2014

We recently stayed at this home and could not have been happier. The house has plenty of space to sit and relax after a long day of hiking. The kitchen was stocked with anything and everything you could imagine. The setting for the home is just what we were looking for, peaceful and quiet area away from any main roads that allowed us to open windows at night time and enjoy the sounds of nature. The owners kept in close contact when any questions arose. The house was super clean when we arrived and there were plenty of cleaning supplies to help keep it that way. Our only complaint is that we were not able to stay longer.

Owner's reply: Hi Jay we are very glad you enjoyed your stay at our home and we appreciate that you took care of the home as well. If your into skiing we welcome you back to cross country ski and to down hill SKI at Sunday river Ski Area this winter. thank you The Gills
