Description of the Big Rapids vacation cabin rental
This 12 year old, 4,200 sqft Lodge is a beautiful full log home that easily sleeps 19 on 3 floors. A wide 10' covered porch surrounds the cabin providing a fantastic view of the lake and the beach, fire pit, tire swing, dock, and raft. A log table on the porch allows outside eating and board games even during inclement weather.

Built in 2002, this lodge has 2 full fireplaces, with the upper fireplace providing a breath taking look, the chimney spanning the full height to the pitched ceiling of 22 feet.

The loft has a Queen and three double beds perfect for the little ones to experience cabin life. Also in the loft is a grand piano, card table, play area, and view of the lake through glass doors.

Privacy and quietness is key as this lodge is tucked into the woods 5 miles outside of Big Rapids,MI. The all-sport lake is perfect for fishing, tubing, sking, and swimming, but with only 10 houses on the lake, most of the time, the lake will be yours alone.

Pontoon boat, paddle boat, kayak, and canoe are all included as part of your rental fees. Optional items at additional cost are a Mastercraft Speed boat and Artic Cat 4 wheeler.

Linens and towels are clean and provided as part of your fee, but don't expect matching satin sheets and color coordinated face cloths, this is a rustic cabin in northern Michigan.

Reasonable cleaning fees are included in your rent.

Perfect Place for Cozy Fall Retreat

October 7, 2014

This home was perfect for our large group of people. With the crackling fire in the fireplaces, cozy places to sit, amazingly beautiful fall views, plenty of games to play, and lots of places to sleep.. this was the perfect place for our retreat! The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make our meals. We enjoyed taking out the kayak and canoe on the peaceful lake. Thank you for your generosity in opening up this beautiful home!

Great place for a few or alot of visitors

August 19, 2014

This was a very clean and beautiful place to get away from it all. With no tv, it made everyone want to be outside...great toys to play with on the water are available with the rent! The fishing during our stay was poor...maybe too cool that week? But everyone enjoyed themselves. (Ages 2 to 72)

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We've just started renting our lodge but everyone is amazed at how spacious it is, the view of the lake, and the privacy that is afforded the occupants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Pets Allowed?
A: Yes, we allow well behaved pets. The area is heavily wooded so dogs enjoy the walk. We have both a dog and a cat ourselves so it is not unusual to have one at the cabin
Q: How do you sleep 19?
A: There are 3 "formal" bedrooms, 1 bed in the furnace room that has a closeable door, and then a large loft that has many double and single beds. Downstairs is a single and double futon for more sleeping. One of the closets contain a number of roll aways, so you could actually have more than 19 sleeping on beds of various sorts.
Q: What does Big Rapids have to offer?
A: Big Rapids is the home to Ferris State University. There are many restaurants and shops downtown because of the college town. Many people enjoy tubing down the Muskegon River which flows through Big Rapids.
Q: Can you swim in the lake?
A: Yes, the lake is very swimmable. We have installed a beach that is good for little children to play in the sand. Older kids will want to swim out to a raft about 75' from shore to sun on the raft and/or swim. The lake does have a muddy bottom, so in order to swim without mud or weeks, it is best to use the raft or take the pontoon boat out to the middle of the lake.
Q: Can we have visitors while we are there?
A: Yes, all that we ask is that you notify us prior to their arrival so that we have a good sense of the number of people on our properly.
Q: Washer & Dryer Available?
A: Yes, right on the main floor is a full size washer and dryer.
Q: Is there a basement?
A: Yes, one of the bedrooms is located on the walkout basement. The corner bedroom has a wonderful view of the woods. The basement has a fooseball table, ping pong table, fireplace, a single and double futon. Along with the full bedroom is a full bath downstairs.. The teenagers can have their own get-a-way from the adults and yet still be close by and out of trouble.
Q: Is there a Television or Big Screen? Can I bring one?
A: No, we do not have a TV on purpose. You'll find that suddenly board games (of which there is a closet full of them), cards, and just talking comes back to your family nearly immediately. At night you sit on the dock or use the fire pit, you don't all become zombies watching the next episode of "Say Yes to the Dress".

If you can't live without a TV, you are certainly allowed to bring one with you. There are some channels available over the air without cable, but we make no promises as to the quality of reception.
Q: How far are you away from Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Detroit, or Chicago?
A: US-131 runs directly from Big Rapids to Grand Rapids and is a 45-50 min drive. Traverse City is about 90 min to the NE. Detroit is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours drive and Chicago is 4 hours
Q: Is boating allowed on the lake?
A: Yes, the lake is an all-sports lake. We are very close to the public access where there is a boat launch and we have a dock where you can keep your watercraft. We rent a powerful MasterCraft ski boat for $200 per day plus gas, available only after some instruction by the owner. The boat is great for tubing, kneeboarding or sking on the lake.
Q: Do you have a phone?
A: No, there is no phone or Internet at the cabin. Cellular coverage is good and most people either go into a coffee shop to access the Internet or tether off their phone for short periods to get email.
Q: How much is your deposit? Do you have a refund policy? How can pay?
A: We accept PayPal, certified check, cashiers check, or personal check (with 10 days time to clear your account).
Our policy is 100% refund of your deposit if we receive your cancellation 90 days prior to your rental. We will provide 50% refund of your deposit if we receive your notice to cancel 6 weeks prior to first date of your rental. If we are able to re-rent your time slot, we will refund all by 25% of your deposit to cover our scheduling and administration costs.
Q: You say "reasonable" cleaning fees are included, what do you mean?
A: We will spend up to 4 "people-hours" cleaning and washing after you depart to prepare for the next renters. (Probably 2 people for 2 hours each). If the cabin is left in a condition that requires more time than that, you will not be allowed to return and we will charge you an extra $50 for each 1/2 of cleaning time required to return the cabin to its original state.
