Description from owner

Our winter special - book 2 nights and get a 3rd consecutive night free!

Seashell Cottage is located in the heart of Birch Bay. It's single story with a large, level yard. The beach is about 200 feet from the cottage with plenty of accessible walking and biking along open, unobstructed beach. One of the things we liked best about the area, besides proximity to the beach, was the ability to walk to restaurants and shops. The "C" (candy) Shop is just south of us along with several restaurants, cafes and shops and a seasonal open market. To the north are more restaurants, including Will-O, a UK pub with a dinner menu and a long list of spirits. Steak and seafood are still within walking distance further north.

We have rented our cottage for holidays, vacations and getaways for over ten years now and have a great reputation for providing enjoyable stays at our cottages, we have Lora's Cottage, (two bedrooms) just across the lane from Seashell.

Our treat to you is ½ dozen huge, freshly baked cinnamon rolls, delivered to the cottage free of charge.

“A Bit of Nostalgia by the Sea”

Reviewed 1 May 2015

Seashell Cottage on the shores of Birch Bay is a trip back in time. The cottage is surrounded by a beautiful green lawn, bordered by a crisp white picket fence. A rose-covered archway leads you to the front door. Once inside, you feel a sense of serenity and old fashioned comfort. Is it the wood stove with its stash of firewood, ready for a cool evening? The cozy patchwork quilts that cover the comfy beds, tucked into bedrooms in various corners of the cottage? Maybe it's the sunlight streaming into the dining area with its expansive table for communal meals, which can be prepared in the fully equipped kitchen. The coffee pot sits ready to brew that first morning cup, which could be enjoyed on the patio. There is even a piano in the back bedroom, ready for enjoyment for those inclined to song. Lilac bushes bloom outside the windows and bird song is everywhere. Birch Bay laps the sandy beach gently, just 200 feet away, and treats the viewer to shimmering sunsets. Great restaurants are withing walking distance, so it is perfectly possible to settle in, park the car, and enjoy the area on foot. No need to fight summer traffic. One of the most delightful aspects of the stay is the hospitality of your hosts. They will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable, even to delivering fresh baked cinnamon rolls on your first morning. They will go great with that coffee. My family and I have enjoyed this retreat so much. It affords space for privacy, but allows for hanging out together in the central area. The two full bathrooms add to the convenience and comfort. I cannot recommend this place highly enough -you will love Seashell Cottage!

Owner's reply: Thank you so very much, Rose, for your kind words. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. We think it's fabulous your far flung family chooses our cottage in Birch Bay for getting together and we hope you'll return for many years of relaxation and reunion with your loved ones. Yes, we love our baker, too!

“Wonderful Cabin”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2015

We just finished our 2nd stay in the Seashell Cottage. It was a delightful place to stay, everything you could need for a beach vacation. Plenty of bedding and towels as well as a well supplied kitchen. The early mornings were cool (we stayed in April) but the cabin heated up quickly and was cozy warm. There were several good restaurants within walking distance and many a short drive away. We are already planning our next trip back.

“Best Christmas holidays in 22 years”

Like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears -- everything in Seashell Cottage was "just right". It was clean, kitchen had everything, it was not TOO fancy, good for family life. The location was perfect close to, but not on, beach. State park with eagles just down street was a plus. The location was within 15 min of our daughters home so her farm chores could be easily done. She really relaxed and said this vacation was the most unstressed ever for her. Another great activity for us was the Parks and Rec gym on the old air force base. The staff was great and it was perfect for the kids to run around on 2 rainy days, plus the ladies really enjoyed the Zumba class. The wood stove with dry wood available was super nice and the 2 DVD setup worked perfectly. Loved having the piano Beds were great. washer and dryer great. Coffee pot lid is broken on one side so always falls off (forgot to say) Having WIfi accessible free was a plus.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure to have your lovely family as our guests! (BTW, the carafe has been replaced.)

“Seashell cottage”

Loved it! The beds were all very comfortable even the pull out couches. The kitchen was very well equipped. The dual head shower in the master bedroom bathroom was a great hit. Lots of towels etc. Only downfall was it was a bit musty and the curtains all need to be washed. We just aired out the house and that took care of the musty smell. The close proximity to the beach and shopping was great also. We will definitely be renting this cottage again.

“Great weekend!”

The cottage looks a little old from the outside, but inside was great. I loved the layout with the convience of having so many places for everyone to sleep. The kitchen is small but has everything you need. It is nice to have 2 bathrooms. The place was clean and comfortable and we are already planning a return trip. It is located near the beach and we did alot of walking. The cinnamon rolls were delivered and they were delicious. The owners are wonderful to work with.

“Great place to stay.”

We had a group of 9 ladies, all family. Ages ranged from 21-78! This cottage fit us well. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen tools and gadgets. A little small, but oh well! The heated floor in the master bathroom, was really neat! Keep the feets toasty. The cinnamon rolls were HEAVEN! Delish! We plan on heading back there next year. There is so much to see around Bellingham/Ferndale area. Owners were very friendly, and great to work with. They were quick to respond to emails, and phone calls. We will be back! Cozy place!
