Description from owner

Your kind of place?

The Breton Cove Farmhouse, on the Cabot Trail, is an excellent spot for family and friend reunions, couples' getaways and has lots of room for a big family or even groups of colleagues or folks passionate about hiking, birding, golfing, or having a home base for exploring Cape Breton Island.

Inside and outside:

The farmhouse has five bedrooms, two full baths, full kitchen, large living room and dining room. It has the rustic comfort of historic Cape Breton, with ready access to the Cape Breton Highlands Park, Highland Links Golf and the Cabot Trail.

Outside is a deck with BBQ and a fire site for campfires. Inside there is a warm fireplace/wood stove in the living room, wood is supplied.

On the property are hiking trails, with a trail through a spruce and birch forest leading to a cliff walk overlooking the Atlantic. From there or a spruce bench lookout, you can occasionally see seals, dolphins and even whales. More likely, during our season from May through October, you'll see lobster traps along the coast, Skir Dhu (a huge "black rock" off the coast where fisherman used to tie up), and also lobster-fishing boats, the Newfoundland Ferry, eagles and seabirds racing up the Cape Breton coast.

Links to videos are available on the history of this Breton Cove Farmhouse as well as the Cape Breton lobster fishing as you'll see at end of this listing.

The farmhouses' sister property is Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort which is 8 miles or 12.5km south on the Cabot Trail at Indian Brook, where you'll find a Bistro, canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals and a nature sanctuary, to which you are invited.

Beds: 3 Queen Beds, 1 Double Bed, 4 Twin Beds, 1 Crib

About the area

Local Highlights Surrounding The Breton Cove Farmhouse The Breton Cove Farmhouse sits right on the Cabot Trail, voted one of the world's best drives according to National Geographic. Along the Cabot Trail, not far from the Breton Cove Farmhouse is world class hiking in the Cape Breton Highlands. A trail right across the Cabot Trail features a hike through a forest with a 360 view from the summit: the Atlantic, the Bird Islands, numerous beaches and two mountain lakes. These mountain lakes are wildlife habitat, as is the trail which often has moose tracks and the occasional moose you'll see from a distance (even from the summit). It is wonderful to take a swim at the completion of the ascent and to picnic on the summit. Like to shop for local crafts and art? Visit the artisan's loop in both directions from Breton Cove: discover studios of local potters, leather workers, wood workers, iron workers and pewter silver. Dine locally: In the area you'll find fresh lobster and Cape Breton seafood, a baker, deli, and you are midway between Baddeck and Ingonish with more shops and restaurants. Also we have the GoBistro at Cabot Shores serving local fish & seafood, meat and vegetarian/vegan dishes. Tours: Can arrange whale watching, puffin boat tours, local and sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and more. Live music: At Cabot Shores down the road as well as at the St. Ann's United Church with bi-weekly ceilidhs and concerts.
