A lakefront villa with a private harbour
Only a few kilometres from the glamour of downtown Como, set on the edge of the small village of Blevio, you will find this lakefront gem. This refined grand villa is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Como, directly opposite the famous Grand Hotel Villa d’Este.
A neo-gothic gatehouse marks the property entrance and guards the driveway which winds its way through the largest single private property on Lake Como, planted with magnificent trees. All of a sudden the trees open onto a lawn which unfolds towards the lake and leads the eye towards two neoclassical fully restored villas with an intriguing history.
The large manicured park with a typical 19th century structure is in marvelous shape thanks to the exceptionally dedicated and knowledgeable owners. A private gate in the wall which encloses the entire property leads to the charming village of Blevio with its old church, a charming square and harbour, a public waterfront park, a public vaporetto dock access and a gourmet restaurant.
In the early nineteenth century the property was given as a present to Maria Taglioni, one of the most celebrated ballerinas of her time, who also called the prestigious Ca’ d’Oro on the Grand Canal in Venice her own. Taglioni became so popular that all kinds of things were named after her: in Russia there were Taglioni caramels, cakes and hairstyles, women of her period started emulating her hairstyle. It was Taglioni's hideaway when her fame was so extreme that, after her last performance in Russia in 1842, a pair of her ballet slippers were cooked, garnished, and eaten by a group of ardent followers. Her son-in-law, Prince Troubetskoy, also came to live here, banished from Russia after being accused of conspiring against Czar Nicholas I. The celebrated ballet dancer welcomed Bellini, Rossini, Franz Lizst and Ricordi in her striking home.
The exceptional entirely walled 7 acre 19th century park is full of towering trees - magnolias, cypress trees, camellias, azaleas and laurel. Wild begonias, crocuses and other specimens add colour among the many meandering paths from where one can gaze across the lake.
The property features al landscaped swimming pool, 160 ft wide, with incomparable views across the lake. There is a beautiful terrace with pergola-covered dining area, overlooking the lake and romantic night lighting. An exclusive private dock offers direct access to t
