Description of the Boca Chica vacation home rental
Welcome to the Villa on Mango Bay. A vacation at our villa is like being transported to Jurassic Park. Monkeys, Dolphins, Parrots & Eagles are seen on a daily basis. Fisherman are often seen just off the point of the island. As it is famous for Red Snapper. Most morning the water is totally calm & ideal for paddling or a ski behind one our boats. We are the perfect launch point to go whale watching or spear fishing to Isla Ladrones. The Chiriqui Marine Park is just 30 minutes away & it is one of the super natural jewels of the Province. Best of all, we can have you from the airport to the villa in 45 minutes! We have all the luxuries like high speed internet, five AC units & Netflix's. The rooms all have teak hardwood floors,10 foot bamboo ceilings & an over head fan. Each room having an incredible view as the exterior walls are all glass.

The villa is comprised of three 800 foot Steel, Teak & Bamboo platforms. Each of the rooms has an incredible view, thru the glass with curtains that can be drawn. The first room has 2 sets of bunk beds, central night table & lamp & a large armoire for clothing. The second has a nice queen bed, Rustic hardwood chair, armoire & two end tables. Both rooms are large. The master is on its own 800 foot platform & has an attached 3 room master bath & its own covered porch with teak deck furniture. This room has a king bed, armoire, desk, two end tables, chest & another ornamental cabinet.

The kitchen is fully stocked with all the appliances you would expect back home. There is a 20 foot long marble island that allows for seating of close to a dozen. We have a gas barbecue to grill your freshly caught fish of the day.The living room has two funky Bamboo chairs & a large sectional for seating. It easily converts to additional spot to sleep two more. We have an entertainment center with a Onkio 5.1 receiver, 5 speakers & two DVD players, both have different formats. The flat screen TV receives Netflix's in English. We have high speed internet & fantastic WIFI. We also have a Magic Jack phone system so you can call home to North America for free!!

The home & furniture has a Bali theme, It blends well with the thatch covered bamboo post & beam roof system. These three 60 foot long thatched roofs cover the villa's three 40 foot long pavilions & the bodega which houses the laundry room, sporting equipment & the off grid power system. The walls are glass to give you the feeling of living in the jungle, but of course you are completely isolated from the outside. We have all the conveniences, like AC in every room, high speed internet, Netflix's & crushed ice.

Yes, we have a large array of solar panels & a new large set of batteries to store the power of the sun in Panama. We just installed our new high efficiency Perkins diesel generator. To ensure there is always a way to keep the rooms cool at night. We do not intend for our guests to stay inside the house all day under the AC. That is NOT possible in an off grid environment. But we want to ensure guests a comfortable night relaxing & a good nights sleep.

The property is on a jungle preserve with incredible trees, some fruit bearing, with birds & monkeys giving an ambiance similar to Jurassic park. The calm warm waters are accessed by our 150 foot long pier. We have our own small private beach with cement steps to access it. It is great spot to lay out in the morning or to go for a swim, paddle or to water ski off of the beach or our 24 foot long dock.

Access to all the fishing in the bay & out into the Hannibal bank is a must. We have a small barge for transporting a few people & all their luggage. We have a quick run about (with a ski bar, double skis & a knee board for the kids) We also have a 20 foot open boat with 3 bench seats for transporting larger groups of people & their luggage. One of our boats can get you right into the marina at Petragal in about 40 minutes. Petragal is just 4 minutes from the airport; which is only 5 minutes from the city of David.
Area Information
Car: Not Necessary

We are ideally situated to explore all the activities that the Bay of Chiriqui has to offer. Fishing in the bay as a quick way to amuse your self & catch your own dinner. We could arrange it, so that our boat captain (who use to be a local fisherman) takes you out to catch some fish or maybe you want to see if you can catch a 100-300 pound Tuna or Marlin. If so, we can arrange a deep sea fishing trip out out to the world famous Hannibal Bank.

You can water ski on the calm water in the bay all year long. Explore one of the hundreds of small island beaches. Find caves & maybe meet a surf school at Isla Silva for a day or two of lessons. There is a great monkey preserve only 10 minutes away by boat, we canarrange a day trip (Fridays) that will be highly educational. Great photo opportunity!!

There are many things to see & do in the mountains as well. We can arrange a trip to go rafting or zip lining, it can be arranged from Mango Bay. However to really check out the mountains, we would recommend that you stay in Bouquette. This would make those activities much closer & relaxing. They also can advise you on some local places to see & eat at. Be aware that the mountains can get heavy rain while our island often stays completely dry, or the rains come much later in the day..

We just came back from Panama and we had a fabulous getaway at this villa. It is remote, quiet and a true taste of what Panama is really about. The owner Shawn was extremely informative. Everything was organized from the time we landed in David airport. Our driver who speaks English picked us up and drove us to the grocery store to get our necessities for the visit. We then drove to Petragal Marina where we met the boat captain who drove us through the channels surrounded by mangroves to the Villa. We were welcomed by the house keepers who were very helpful showing us the villa and all the features of the property.

The place is tastefully decorated and the views of the bay and mountains are incredible. The glass walls and thatched roof of the villa offer an amazing tropical experience inside and out. The Villa is well equipped with all of the amenities including a full kitchen, large onsuite with an amazing outdoor shower, Internet and TV. The deck is quite large and was great for dining outdoors. We used the boat services for a full day going to several beaches within the marine park(nice snorkeling) as well as isla Palenque where we saw a lot of monkeys. We went to lunch with our boat captain at the Boca Brava Hotel restaurant where we found affordable and good food. The ridge trail hike in the jungle on the island is quite the experience! I recommend this beautiful villa and location to anyone looking to experience the nature and natural beauty of this amazing country and live the natural experience.

My family of seven had an amazing vacation at Mango Bay. We were met at the airport in the city David by Jose who transported us and our groceries (Jose purchased groceries for us in advance so we could get to the island asap) to the boat landing. Captain Victor, picked us up with two boats at the landing, and we had our first exciting boat ride. The islands are so beautiful. Caretakers David and Linda met us at Mango Bay, gave us a tour of the villa, and we got settled in. Each day was an adventure.

One day, David & Linda set up a tent and chairs for us on the beach on Isla Boca Brava! Victor and his son, Brian, transported us there and back. We played in the ocean. Hunted for shells. We found abundant sand dollars! Make sure to plan activities early in the day! Then you can rest in the afternoon at the way cool Mango Bay! And prepare wonderful meals. We used the grill for most of our cooking. The solar system is way cool too! It is a good thing to be off the grid. We worked carefully with David and Linda on timing of air conditioning usage, so we could minimize the use of the backup generator. One afternoon Victor cut down fresh coconuts for us all, and he skillfully used his machete to prepare them. We were able to drink the coconut water!

Another day, Captain Daniel took us way out in the ocean to many islands! Daniel knows the people here. He is intuitive about what we would like to experience. With him we went to great island getaways. We saw crocodiles, sting rays, 100 year old trees, eco lodges, hidden beaches, dolphins, pelicans, two places where he has lived, his dear friends... We were able to snorkel, catch big fish, eat awesome watermelon, and experience way out there ocean and island stuff! Daniel also helped us with the boat ride back to Petragal, which is close to the city of David. The fish that we caught with Daniel provided two wonderful evening meals.

One day we just chilled at the Mango Bay Villas. Enjoyed the cool breeze, the warm sun, the high and low tides, the relaxing shaded decks, the magical howler monkeys that became our good mysterious friends and guardians through the week. We added a trip to Boquete on the end of our adventure. Jose was the perfect driver and guide to Boquete, and back to the David Airport. Shawn helped us connect with wonderful dear people who guided us in Panama City, in the city of David, out at Mango Bay, and in Boquette. We learned unexpected things from the people and nature every day!

We stayed at the villa for 3 nights and it was nothing short of an adventure-filled, exciting visit. The villa itself is beautiful, nestled in pristine rain forest and surrounded by a wide variety of tropical fruit trees. For adventure seekers like us, there was no shortage of activity.

We spent a day and a half exploring the island by foot. We also spent a day out on the boat exploring the Chiriqui marine park, which is a quick ride away, where we practically had the whole ocean to ourselves. We were surprised by how few people we came across in such a beautiful place.

Besides all the activities away from the villa, we also enjoyed the accommodations. The villa is comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen is well-equipped for any cooking - there's no take out there! The deck around the villa has a gorgeous view out to sunrise.

There is a small beach just down the hill near the dock for a quick dip after a sweaty day in the jungle.

The bay is very quiet, with only the occasional fishing boat passing by. The local wildlife is very entertaining too!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the things to do that are the most fun from our property?
A: Paddle board or water ski, as it is right off the dock. The water is always warm & the water is like glass often.
We have quick access to the marine park & other areas with in 40-70 minutes give us awesome diving & spear fishing or surfing at Isla Silva.
Q: What makes our vacation rental special??
A: Other than the Bali design & glass walls. It could be that we are also surrounded by an untouched nature preserve.
Having a 150 foot long pier to access the bay in front of our property helps a lot too. The island is 4 kms long & much of it can be accessed by the ridge trail that runs along the entire length. It is the spine of the island. There are amazing trees, great views & interesting fauna & all the sounds of the jungle. Think Jurassic Park!
Q: What is the weather like?
A: In the summer & fall the temperature is usually about 30 Celsius ( mid 80's ) for the high. The weather is wetter with many days ending in a 1-3 hour thunderstorm. Some times we do get a day or two of rain. The temperature dips to a cool 22 Celsius or about 75 degrees. During the dry season, from December to some time in May. There is basically no rain except for the odd shower. Half of the time that is at night. The temperature picks up as it moves towards March. Which is the driest, warmest temperatures. They move up into the mid 30's during the day. Or about 95 degrees. However we get more wind in the afternoon which helps keep everyone cooler. The night time temperature drops to between 22-24 degrees. The water does not move more than a degree above or below 30 Celsius. It will be warmer during the day, right on the beach, depending on if there is cloud cover. Cloud cover can be a blessing as the sun is very intense.
Q: Where is your favorite spot?
A: I think that Isla Gamez is a beauttiful spot. It has two beaches only separated by about 200 feet of Coconut trees. There is a large rock that looks like the stone table in Narnia. I picture a witch doctor who is just about to sacrifice the virgin. While all the natives shake their spears in a semi circle around the rock. I may have watched too many movies!!

It is a small island just to the left of the big island of Parida. You can see it on Goggle Earth. It is about 30 minutes ride from our place. A trip back cruising by the other islands & then stop in Boca Chica for lunch on the return trip.
Before the wind picks up in the afternoon or in the rainy season the clouds start to roll in. It is a nice way to kill 6 hours!!
Q: Can we see monkeys?
A: Often they are on the trees just to the side of the master bedroom pavilion. or behind. You will hear them much more than see them. They seldom venture low as Howlers like to stay up high in the trees. There is a monkey Sanctuary that is only 15 minutes away by boat. They give an educational tour of their property on Fridays. It is very interesting & you would learn a lot. I am not sure if there will be any interaction with the young monkeys. There was when I was there last.
Q: Is there a boat we can rent?
A: Yes & we also provide a boat captain. Many hazards that you would never know about exist & you need to know where to go. The inner channels are calm but there are many of them & they can get confusing to navigate. We have water skies & a knee board. The ski boat is not large, so no slalom skiing for adults I am afraid.
But a fun diversion for the kids. That is what I had in mind when I had the boat built. It has a tow bar.
The area is the best I have ever seen. However I had to bring in all the skis, ropes & tow bar from Canada, as nobody skies in Panama. Which I find so weird!! It is not in their budget. Boats are utilitarian, not recreational in Latin America.
Q: Is there surfing nearby?
A: Well there may be closer in! This area is a bit raw & not enough surfers hang out here to really scope out all the spots close by. I am not good at surfing so I have not done it. However we could arrange to meet the surf instructors from Surfers Paradise at Isla Silva. Which is about an hour away by boat. It is their top spot that they takes guest. They would bring the guides, who know the breaks. Also they can bring boards as they have several extra boards. They also have the go pro cameras. So it is a fun spot. It is also good for spear fishing around that island. So if you have a couple others are not wanting to surf, they could snorkel. Pretty ride down the coast too. As always, we leave early in the morning. Such is life in the tropics!
