Rustic Luxury with a Mountain View!

Our secluded retreat rests at the foot of our private 16 acre wooded, mountainside property.  We have seen to every detail to ensure that our guests are always comfortable when they visit our vacation home.

With soaring cathedral ceilings, floor to ceiling tongue and groove, oversized leather and suede furniture, and a designer décor, this mountain retreat will envelop you in rustic, luxurious comfort.

This 2300 sq. ft. home has two king master suites.  Luxury linens on king sized, pillow top mattresses, large closets, ceiling fans and Italian tile are just a few of the amenities in both of the king suites.

A large additional private room on the 1st floor will accommodate 2 additional guests with a Queen bed and an additional full bathroom.  In all, this house will comfortably sleep 6 people.

The chef's kitchen has recently been updated with granite countertops, new tile, a large, movable island, and is fully stocked with all the modern conveniences, stainless steel appliances, and a large pantry for all of the incredible local fare.  A new dining room table will seat 8, and there is an outdoor grilling and picnic deck adjoining the kitchen for outside dining.

This mountain retreat feels miles away from everything, but is actually located just 10 minutes north of Boone and ASU.  This cabin is less than 25 minutes away from Blowing Rock, 30 minutes from 3 major ski resorts, 2 well-known golf courses, Tweetsie Railroad, Banner Elk, Valle Crucis and the main entrance to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls. The crown jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains offers some of the best hiking and fishing in North Carolina, and unparalleled views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the Parkway.

When you're done exploring the area, pour yourself something refreshing, and enjoy beautiful sunsets from one of the many comfortable rocking chairs on the front deck.  As you listen to the soothing sound of Howards Creek below, you will rock your cares away.  Later, socialize in the outdoor living room next to the 80-jet hot tub under the covered deck, or the lower, more private deck with the old-fashioned porch swing.  The view is stunning all year long, and there is abundant wildlife that frequently happens by.

If you prefer to be indoors, the 1st floor recreation room has a large screen HDTV, theatre surround sound, and stereo with iPod connection, an extensive library of DVDs, PlayStation 2 video games (including Rock Band), a professional bumper pool table, dartboard, and numerous board and card games for your entertainment pleasure.  There is wireless internet and a flat screen television in every bedroom, along with a wide variety of books that you can borrow during your stay.

There is a stone fireplace upstairs and a gas stove downstairs to keep the cabin warm and cozy during cold weather.

The property sits at an elevation of 3700 ft, and is secluded and full of wildlife and beautiful flora.  Just step outside onto any of the 2100 sq. feet of spacious decking, and let go of the rest of the world.

There is a large mudroom entry on the main floor, with plenty of room to remove and store your gear and outerwear, and a full size laundry room downstairs.

How Balloon Landing got its name

On a beautiful day in late fall, we were camping at the top of the road before the house was completed, and we decided to hike to the ridge line and scout the property lines.  After a couple of hours, we stopped to rest, and our youngest teenage daughter spotted a shiny blue ribbon below the ferns.  When she lifted the ribbon out of the mud, it was attached to a deflated red balloon.  She smiled and held it up for us to see, and said, “Look!  Some kid in town must have let go of his balloon, and this is where it landed!”

For the rest of the hike, we all speculated about how the balloon had been set free, from where it had come, why it had been carried here, and how we had found it.  We all agreed that the balloon, like us, had decided to land where we stood, and that this would be the name of the house we were now building.

It was a silly dialog, during a hike that we were all giddy to take – exploring the place that was our new paradise.  We were together, having fun, in a place we had fallen in love with.  It was one of those moments in life that we all look for and treasure.  That night, around our campfire, the first snow of the season began to fall.  There would be a lot of snow that season, but this one was the first, and it was beautiful.  It sealed the decision for the name of cabin.

We hope that you and your family and friends w
