Description from owner

Stunning mountain log cabin, private yet close to everything! Around the Bend Cabin, constructed with authentic western red cedar logs, features cathedral ceilings and a stone fireplace inside, and a wrap-around porch to take in the view of the surrounding mountains peeking through the woods outside. Sharing a private road with only two other cabins, (only one of which can be seen) the Valle Crucis location is just minutes from most attractions.

Our sunny cabin features three bedrooms plus a children's loft and three full bathrooms. The master suite, located upstairs, has a king bed and a bathroom with Jacuzzi tub. Children love the loft area, with their own tv, where they can play games on the Gamecube, or unfold the sleeper and take in a movie. The main level has two additional bedrooms, one with queen bed and private bath with a walk-in shower; the second bedroom with two twin beds. The third bathroom is located on this level as well.

Step outside onto the wraparound porch, the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee, or a moonlight dip in the large hot tub. Explore the surrounding woods, and then relax inside while you enjoy the flat-screen HDTV. All four of the televisions in this home feature cable, and there is VHS and DVD as well. Bring your laptop and take advantage of the free wireless internet. The open floor plan of the main level is perfect for family interaction, and the large windows and cathedral ceilings keep this home bright and sunny. Take the chill off in winter with a crackling fire in the stone fireplace.

When you are ready to leave the comforts of our cozy log cabin, you will find the famous Mast General Store less than 2 miles away. Within fifteen minutes are Boone, Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad, Banner Elk, ASU, the Blue Ridge Parkway, three ski resorts, several golf courses and countless other attractions.

Around the Bend has paved access all the way to the cabin driveway. While we are about 3000 ft. up, 4-wheel drive is not needed here, even in winter!

About the area

Nestled high in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina is a peaceful rural community that has stayed untouched over the years. When Levi Ives, the second Episcopal bishop of North Carolina, visited the area in the 1840s he looked into the valley from a hillside, noticed three streams forming the shape of a St. Andrew's cross and deemed the location Valle Crucis, Latin for "Vale of the Cross." Pronounced valley crew'sis, the bucolic area was first formally settled over 200 years ago and is a place that historians and visitors alike have called "uncommon." The community has grown in recent years, as the valley's scenic beauty and majestic quality continuously mesmerizes residents and draws visitors from throughout the world. Located in Watauga County, near Boone and only a few hours from the hustle and bustle of bigger cities, day and weekend getaways are possible, but most eventually return for a much longer stay. Valle Crucis is North Carolina's first rural historic district and the entire community is officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nationally recognized historic buildings are abound in Valle Crucis, such as the original Mast General Store (1883), still serving the area today. The rustic countryside provides ample opportunities for recreational activities. Both residents and visitors alike can be found enjoying the amenities at the riverfront community park, with multiple children's playgrounds, athletic fields, picnic areas, and a walking/running trail around its border. Other outdoor enthusiasts can be found hiking from the sacred ground of the old Episcopal Mission, now the Valle Crucis Conference Center, up trails to Crab Orchard Falls or along other seemingly limitless trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Riding horses through old farm fields in the valley and fishing for trout from the banks of the streams and Watauga River also provide an enjoyable glimpse at the days of old. Regardless of the choice of activity, unquestionably the best way to recap the day's events is from a rocking chair placed outside in the crisp mountain air, with views of spectacular foliage and the quaint valley.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely cabin. We had a great time! We visited Grandfather Mountain, the mile high bridge, along with Linville Caves and Falls. We did not eat out much, but did enjoy cooking on the grill. By the way, we did not see matches anywhere, but did buy some and left them there for the next renters. The hot tub was wonderful and helped me relax. It was so quiet and peaceful. Thank you again for a great time in the mountains of Boone! J.R. Hamilton

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your kind words! Welcome back any time. Sorry about the matches. We keep them high up above the mantle so kids can't get at them.

“Perfect location”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2015

Beautiful and private! We were greeted by a family of five deer upon our arrival. They were grazing at the foot of the drive way. The cabin was set up with everything we needed and more! We enjoyed the Valle Crucis area as well as shopping in Boone, hiking Linville Falls and exploring Linville caverns. I wish we could have stayed longer! "Over Yunder" was amazing! The best home cooked meal I've had in a long time! We are planning to bring the kids next time for Tweetsie season!

Owner's reply: Thank you for being such wonderful guests at "Around the Bend" Cabin! Come back soon!

“I just love your cabin!”

I just love your cabin, especially the décor. They should feature your cabin in Southern Living. The location is perfect. You are out in the woods, yet 15 minutes from plenty of restaurants. Our favorite was Over Yonder. Thanks again for letting us stay. We have had a wonderful time.

Owner's reply: Thank you Marice! It was a pleasure having you as our guests.

“Surrounded by Nature”

A great little secluded cabin but close to amenities with a short drive to Boone. We had a very relaxing week here and would love to visit again. We spent a lot of time exploring the area, Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain but also just enjoyed relaxing at the cabin. Plenty of birds and white tail deer to feel at ease.

“Lovely, cozy, comfy, rejuvenating, serene!”

This is a great place for families to create precious memories together. We really enjoyed the hot tub on the deck, the beautiful fireplace, how well appointed it is, how peaceful and quiet it is (snuggled up on a hill with a good degree of privacy), and the close proximity to great food and area attractions. We would certainly recommend this property for individuals, couples, and families. You will feel right at home!

Upon arriving at the cabin my husband and I were so pleased because it appeared to be exactly what we envisioned. When we walked inside, it exceeded our expectations. It welcomed us with its coziness and warmth. The owners certainly know how to make you feel welcome and special even though they were not there. The fireplace, the hot tub, the porch, the view....it was perfect. We will be returning!!!!

Four of us rented the cabin for one week. Everything was "as advertised". The accommodations were perfect and we got to use all of the amenities: fireplace, Jacuzzi, Gas grill. The owner provided all the information regarding local attractions, restaurants, etc which was very helpful. We would definately recommend this property and plan on returning.
