My family decided to have a reunion for 1 week at this historic inn and had the most relaxing marvelous time. My family is spread out all over the country and it was great to bring everyone together here. It is pretty breath taking to see seals and bald eagles in abundance right out your window. From this location we went hiking and took senic trips to Mt. Olympus, which is by the way something to behold. We also visited many islands and surrounding villages. We enjoyed the local seafood. We ate clams and oysters we harvested ourselves at low tide. If you plan to stay and enjoy seafood like my family does you may want to buy your salmon and crab at the Pike maket place in downtown Seattle. Its 1/3 the price there instead of locally.. My husband and 2 teenage children and I stayed for 5 nights at the home. We were greeted our first evening with seals swimming nearby, eagles flying past the windows and even an otter on the shore. This is a charming old house with an incredible location for the nature lover. My children had a great time down at the water, which is right off the back steps, watching all the animals and looking at shells. We cooked fresh seafood we picked up in Port Townsend and had great pie at the Halfway House restaurant down the street. We picked up our groceries on the way in since there is no large store nearby. FYI. The house was a bit far from some of the things we wanted to see, so we made long day trips to Sol Duc and Hurricane ridge. The Olmpic Animal park in Sequiem is a must do with kids. Overall, this was our best vacation yet.

Our entire family had a wonderful four night stay at the Balch House. Beautiful gardens greeted us as we arrived. The house was cozy, clean and welcoming. Everyone pitched in to prepare delicious seafood meals. We picked sweet plump oysters right out the front door, and we dug steamer clams at Dosewallips Park just down the road. Seals frolicked in the waters from sunrise to sunset. Bald eagles soared by us. We had a bonfire and made S'mores one evening. We hiked beautiful nearby forest trails and we saw some spectacular waterfalls. The house is well equipped with reading material for every interest. If you need more hiking information it is readily available at the Community Center in Brinnon. If you are looking for a nice restaurant with quality food nearby, I highly recommend the Timber House in Quilcene. The kayaking is great & rentals are available at the marina nearby. We brought our 16' skiff, but we were so busy that we didn't even have time to take it out! You will not lack fun activiites when you stay at The Balch House. It is also the perfect place to go for a quiet retreat. We hope to return!!

My husband found this wonderful historic home on the internet and we knew immediately we had to give it a try. It was absolutely wonderful! Terrific views from every room, well stock kitchen with all appliance needed for any type of cooking, comfortable beds, and plenty of hot cocoa. My husband, mother-in-law, 4 children and I enjoyed hot cocoa in the mornings watching the sunrise from the deck. Many wonderful memories where made and will always be remembered. We hope to come again soon!

From the moment you drive down the drive way and see the spectacular water view, to the well appointed interior, the place does not disappoint. Loved the skylights in the upstairs bedroom as well the majestic view of the water while enjoying the jacuzzi tub. Tori has provided personal touches that will make anyone's vacation a delight. We went for a great hike just a short distance away and traveled a short distance to Port Townsend, but ultimately, it is a very quiet peaceful getaway. We'll be back!

We spent a magical four days in this slice of heaven on Hood Canal. A beautiful home overlooking a gorgeous piece of waterfront. The charm of a historical home that is tastefully remodeled, very clean, and fully equipped. Everything you've ever thought of needing is here, including a kitchen that accommodated my husband, a gourmet cook. Within a few blocks we put in our kayaks and brought in a bounty of clams and oysters. Relaxed on the decks; evenings over the outdoor fire; enjoyed bald eagles, seals, amazing sunrises, beautiful grounds. Gracious hosts who have thought of everything you might need, you will feel their love of this place all around you.
Magnificent 1920 Waterfront Retreat - 5/5 Enjoying a Forgotten Era

My wife and I enjoyed the historical aspect of this house. It was nice, and I think more relaxing, to get away from modern concrete style condo vacation rentals. It brought back the feeling of a slower paced time from the past. We probably enjoyed the wildlife more than anything. Because a fresh water river flows into the salt water of Hood Canal directly in front of the house, wildlife is more abundant in this area, the principle ones being sea otters and bald eagles. We used this property as a home base for sightseeing in the area. Main attractions were the town of Port Townsend with its Victorian homes and the small villages up and down Hood Canal with all of their tourist shops and seafood outlets. Sitting on the outdoor decks was especially enjoyable while watching the the boats cruise in and out of the nearby marina. Even though we didn't, the lower deck is large enough to entertain a fairly good sized group of people. The neighbors' homes are not right on your "doorstep", which is nice for privacy. The house was very clean and comfortable. The furniture is of the style that fits the era that the house was built in and the beds have heavy quilts, just like the "old days". Even though the kitchen is still the style originally used in the house, it has been updated with all of the modern appliances we are accustomed to. All in all, this rental home was a nice change of pace bringing back the feeling of a forgotten era. Unless a person wants to vacation at a totally modern day residence, I would recommend the "Balch" house for a unique vacationing experience.

We spent this last weekend in Brinnon, and had a wonderful time. The house is very well decorated, and has all the amenities needed for an out of town trip. We made meals in the kitchen, played board games, watched videos, sat on the deck and watched the eagles, elk and birds. An extremely relaxing and enjoyable time.

We loved how close the water was, the thoughtful gift left for us, and the feeling of walking into 1920. Can't wait to return. It really is serenity.

We found this place by total accident, but the pictures and the description just seemed too good to pass up. As a couple, we rented the house for three nights, and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house was clean, well-stocked with kitchen appliances for cooking and baking needs, as well as just being generally comfortable and cozy. The views from each room were spectacular, and the location was quiet, calm, and relaxing. The master suite is fantastic- the jacuzzi tub alone (with it's amazing view day or night) is worth the stay. Wood floors and othr old charms (moldings, paneling, windows, etc.) make the house a true gem. The house is easy to find, and close to hiking, beaches, and other fun outdoor activities. We enjoyed the sunrise and coffee from the main-level desk with it's comfortable chairs and great view. A variety of animals (we saw eagles, seals, and other wildlife) easily seen, and the recereation areas nearby were wasy to access and enjoyable as well. We were incredibly happy with the no-cleaning fees, and the efficient and prompt communication from the property managers. They made us feel like we made the right choice for our local vacation. We hope to go back again and bring other friends since we enjoyed our experience that much. Definitely worth it!
