Description from owner

Sip your morning coffee on the spacious oceanfront deck while watching the sun rise over the mountains of Acadia and Blue Hill Bay. Listen to the sound of the waves and shorebirds as you watch lobstermen check their traps in the bay in front of the cottage. Explore the secluded, rocky beach and look for sea glass and shells. Enjoy an evening cocktail and watch the moon rise over the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse. Count the stars in the Milky Way and bask in utter peace and contentment.

‘Sea Meadow’ is a charming, shingle-sided cottage perched 75 feet from the ocean’s edge on the western shore of Blue Hill Bay. It has spectacular open views of the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse set against the backdrop of Mount Desert Island. The cottage sits on four acres of land and is surrounded by grass and wildflower meadows. A private staircase provides access to the deepwater shorefront and beach with granite boulders. It is only a one hour and 15 minutes drive to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.

The living room/dining area walls are covered in antique barn board siding with a beamed ceiling. The den includes an entertainment center that is stocked with board games, puzzles, television with satellite service, DVD player and more than 80 DVDs. There is a large deck that faces the ocean with a dining table and plenty of seating. The kitchen and bathroom were completely remodeled. (The bathroom has a stall shower only.) The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The two cozy additional bedrooms each have built-in bunk beds. (Due to the fact that the top bunks do not have railings, guests should only use the lower bunks.)

About the area

Brooklin is located on the southeast tip of the Blue Hill Peninsula between Blue Hill Bay and Eggemoggin Reach. It is a beautiful, quiet village that boasts it is 'the boatbuilding capital of the world.' Author E.B. White and his wife Katharine made it their home. Brooklin is the home of many fine boat builders, lobstermen, and the headquarters of WoodenBoat Magazine. People come from around the world to attend boat building or sailing classes at the WoodenBoat School. Brooklin is, quite simply, a very special place.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

This is from a thank you note that we received from guests from Connecticut:

"We really have enjoyed our stay at Sea Meadow Cottage. Your home here in Brooklin is a truly lovely place. Because we had absolutely pristine weather during our visit we were able to sit out on the deck each morning and evening and watch the constantly evolving color and light across Blue Hill Bay. We didn't feel as if we needed to travel very far because everything was perfect right here. Thank you so much for allowing us the privilege of sharing your beautiful seaside cottage!"

This is an excerpt from a thank you note written by guests from Maryland:

"I just wanted to send you this letter because our family had such a wonderful, happy vacation in Maine and most especially in your lovely cottage. My family has deep roots in Blue Hill and knows the region well. ... [W]e could not have had a more PERFECT vacation. The weather was stupendous, the cottage exceeded all of our needs and expectations and the peacefulness that transcended all of us was priceless. My father ... wants to come back, as do we all, to YOUR COTTAGE .... the best place by far that we have ever rented."

This is thank you note that we received from guests from Pennsylvania:

"Once in a great while, when we're really fortunate in life, we get to experience a time and place of true perfection - a place in which we would not change one thing or wish for a single missing piece - a time of total peace and contentment. Our time at Sea Meadow was all of that, for both of us. From the moment we drove down the driveway and the cottage (plus the amazing view beyond it!) came into view, we were both pinching ourselves - hard to believe that such a magical place would be 'ours' for a week! You and Kent have overlooked nothing in providing for the comfort of your guests, and your attention to quality and detail is evident throughout the house. ... We were cozy and comfortable - we both agree, it felt like home. This spectacular stretch of coastline, with Blue Hill Lighthouse, all the islands, the lobstermen tending their traps out front, the friendliness of virtually everyone we met - all kept us smiling. Dinner at Arborvine on our final evening was delicious - a perfect close to the week.
Our dream and hope is to return to Sea Meadow within the next year or two ...."
