About the area

We are centrally located on the Blue Hill Peninsula, just 11 miles from Blue Hill, about a 15 minute drive. Within a half hour are Stonington and its working fishing community and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts just a little further at the tip of Deer Isle . This is the land of E.B.White and Robert McCloskey the well-know writers of the past. Brooklin, just a half hour's drive is home to Woodenboat School. Our town, Brooksville has more than 50 miles of meandering shorefront and the district of Bucks Harbor is home to Condon's Garage which was described in Robert McCloskey's book "One Morning in Maine." There is a weekly farmers market in Bucks Harbor that features local produce from the area's well-known farms. Four Season Farm is just one of them. Numerous parks and coastal preserves are in the area that welcome visitors with dogs on leash. It's a wonderful ride to Isle au Haut on the Mailboat. Dogs are welcome on board the mailboat. Lookout Rock which is 250' above sea level. Follow the Trail markers through the woods and old granite quarry. It is a great vantage point with views across the islands in the Bay. We have ocean beaches and plenty of open space. Dogs must be on leash and are not allowed on the beaches. There are places nearby where you can take your dog to swim.

Getting around

Fly into Bangor and rent a car. It's about an hour's drive southeast from Bangor. Or, drive up from Portland, Maine. It's about a 3 hour drive. We're off the beaten path so having a car to get around is basic to your enjoyment of the area. We are about 1 hour from Acadia National Park.

What a lovely p[lace in a beautiful setting! My lady and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Birches cottage with our little four legged friend. The cottage was very nice and the bed was quite comfortable.
