“Great Secluded Getaway”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2015

This place was great; quiet and slightly quaint on a great piece of land which was like something out of a story book with it's meadow-like yard, giant trees complete with tree-swing, and access to the creek through the woods. The house was stocked with a number of cooking essentials which is a rarity, the communication from the owner was great, and overall we just really enjoyed ourselves.

Owner's reply: Thanks, Jason, It was a pleasure hosting you--smooth communication, orderly check-in/check-out, and the house was left very clean!

“Beautiful House”

Cozy and very comfortable house! The owner thought of everything you might need during your stay. The kitchen is well stocked, the house is clean and the owner is very accommodating and helpful. Definitely recommend it to everyone!

“So lovely, we extended our stay!”

I want to say Laramie was a great pleasure to work with. We did not have any issues getting in touch with him via email when we had questions or concerns. We are looking forward to coming back in the near future! If you are looking for beautiful scenery and total seclusion in a studio style home, look no further. First thing you'll notice is the house looks aged. It may not please the eye from the start. Yet, as the old saying goes, don't judge a book by it's cover. It didn't take long for us to feel comfortable and settle in. From all the essentials to the perks, the house greatly exceeded our expectations. Don't expect a mobile signal at the house, so no pesky phone calls. Though, you can still update your Facebook status and stream Netflix via the WiFi Internet. After a long day of hiking or hitting the slopes, there's nothing like kicking back in the hot tub sipping on wine while looking up at the night sky through the sky lights. Want a cool breeze? Reach up and open those bad boys! The kitchen was fully equipped with all the appliances you typically expect. Cooking with well water really does make food taste better! I chose this house because of amenities, location, and price. It was perfect for our needs; decent semi-central location for local ski resorts but far enough away to feel secluded. I had no problems driving to Okemo, Killington, and Stowe from the house. If you plan to cater to a large group - this house can please. If you absolutely require privacy, keep in mind the studio style, but there is one room with a door for mom & dad placed comfortably away from the rest of the beds up in the loft. I absolutely recommend this house to anyone who needs a break from the fast pace city life! ***EXTRA INFO*** The Driveway - he is not exaggerating. The driveway is icy and pretty steep. If you only have rear-wheel drive, you may have issues. When we arrived, the driveway was treated (sand) and had very little difficulty getting up and down the driveway with our Toyota Corolla. We did not have to use the tire chains we brought. Finding the house can be a little difficult at first (especially at night), best to follow his directions once you get on Route 44. Google Maps and GPS was trying to take us past the house onto Brook Rd, which is incorrect. One piece of advice; Do your shopping in the town Windsor at Price Chopper (take Rt44 East bound then turn Left onto Rt5 North bound - about a mile or so down, Price Chopper is on y

“Beautiful inside and out”

My husband and myself started our search for dog friendly vacation rentals and we came upon Hounds Hollow in Vermont. Soon after reading the amazing description and the reasonable price we decided to book the rental. All the while the owner Laramie answered the seemingly never ending questions I had. Upon arrival we noted the exquisite privacy of the property in combination with the close proximity to the town of Brownsville VT. While we entered the home we noted , It was kept in excellent tidy condition. We then went on to explore the out side of the property, where we were happily greeted by the sound of the large brook on the lower side of the grounds. Our pup, myself , my husband as well as three friends were instantly impressed. We took a quick hike to survey the grounds, and discovered that the brook we had heard was only a short distance from the home. As we headed back to the house I took in the immense beauty that surrounded us. When we were getting settled into the home all five of us found that the home invited quite comfortable accommodation. I noted that the kitchen was clean and was well equipped with a variety of spices, as well as every utensil a gourmet chef could expect. This kitchen could suit a large group as well as a couple. The beds were all extremely comfortable with many sets of clean linens. As far as the "little extras" I found a lovely spot in the far end of the house which was comprised of two large windows with lounging areas that kiss the windows. This area gives you a perfect view of the back yard. I found myself relaxing there and watching the humming birds that tend to frequent a certain red flower patch within direct sight of the windows. At night I was honored enough to experience the night sky of Vermont,Within 10 minutes I saw 4 shooting stars! Being that I am from New Jersey, and have only seen 1 shooting star (during a meteor shower) this was amazing ! Another amazing aspect of the home is the tremendous collection of books. This is perhaps one of my most favorite aspects of the home. Any classic novel you could think of is seated in the home, as well as light hearted leisure reading. I would most definitely recommend using this home as a vacation rental for a large or small group. Overall our experience at Hounds Hollow was extraordinary.

“Great place for a great price”

This property is very centrally located with space for plenty of space for famililes to enjoy without feeling like they are too close for comfort. The driveway was quite a steep one....which we did not know about before we arrived, which caused some problems. When called, the plow person did come within the hour, but 4-wheel drive was almost necessary. We had five children with us, ages 8 to 14 and the bottom of the driveway served as a great sledding area. The house was well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, cleaning products and firewood. The fireplace, dispite the very high ceilings, kept the house very warm. The property could have been a bit cleaner, but was not terrible by any means. The appliances all were in working condition. There was plenty of lighting and outlets. Also decorated very nicely with plenty of interesting books and games to engage in. Great large TV for viewing movies, since there is no cable. We just used the RedBox rental about 5 miles away in Windsor. Downtown Windsor has alot of stores if you are in need of anything. So in conclusion, good location, comfy place to stay, homey feeling, and I would recommend it to large groups who wish to stay together.

“Great getaway for relaxation and quality time”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2011

My family and I had the most relaxing long weekend away. The house was perfect size for 6 of us and we had everything we need to be comfortable and cook meals. This was a much needed weekend away and we had a fabulous time. I would definitely stay here again.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the nice review! Glad you had such a good time. --Laramie

“Eclectic relaxation”

Reviewed 2 May 2011

We enjoyed our stay at the Brownsville house and the area was beautiful. Our family had a celebration weekend and the kitchen was big enough for all of us to fit and cook comfortably. Also when mother nature gave us a nasty rain and wind storm the house was comfy, cozy and safe. The only thing we didn't find was a radio or TV (w/satellite/cable) to check the weather. The Brownsville house is away from it all yet close enough to town (go left out the drive way) to grab a pizza and bring it back still warm. We'll be back, Thanks again!

“very relaxing”

Our stay was very relaxing. The hiking was great and the stream and river in backyard was soothing to listen to. The home has a great fireplace/woodstove and Laramie was very accommodating to our early check in and late check out. Very nice!!

“Easy access to ski resorts”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2008

What a beautiful home! We stayed here and drove to Okemo to ski (easy 25 minute drive), even though the entrance to Ascutney Resort is maybe two minutes from the house (already had tickets for Okemo). The house was spacious and comfortable for our three adults, two teens, and an 11 year old. The setting was spectacular. We used the giant TV/DVD player and the wood stove, also the well-equipped kitchen. The whole family and our friends all agreed we'd like to return. The only complaint was that, on the weekend of a BIG Patriots game, there is no TV reception. The football fans went to the Loft in Ludlow and watched the game there.

“Relaxation at its best!”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2007

We just wanted to have a quite weekend, away from everything and surrounded by nature. Well, this place is it! We had a grand time, just walking through the woods, the kids made 'fairy houses' and stashed stones like a 'hunebed', it was magical for them and us! Owner is thrustworthy and great to deal with! We will come back ;-)
