About the area

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES GALORE!!!: There are plenty of activities close by including horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, white water rafting, snow skiing and tubing, sledding, ice skating, hiking (including the Appalachian Trail just 15 minutes away), fishing, golfing, shopping/strolling in Boone/Blowing Rock, or sightseeing and other activities at many outdoor parks anywhere from 10 minutes to 45-60 minutes away. Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway are a few of the more well known destinations, but there are plenty more to be discovered. Bring your bikes and ride on Sink Valley Road right in front of Waters Edge, or transport them to biking trails in the area, including one near the Mast General Store outside of Boone, North Carolina and the Virginia Creeper Trail out of Abingdon, Virginia to the north. And if none of that interests you, just sit back on one of the four decks and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. NOT SO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: For those who are not into outdoor activities, there are plenty of other activities. The Butler Museum tells the story of Butler, The Town that Wouldn't Drown! The town used to be at what is now the bottom of Watauga Lake. Old structures, signs and roads are explored by avid scuba divers. In Boone, NC near Appalachian State University and in Blowing Rock, NC, there are plenty of shops with arts, pottery, clothing and collectibles. There are also quite a few excellent restaurants. For bigger city shoppers, Johnson City, TN is not far away. Before you get to Johnson City is Elizabethton which has its own set of smaller town shops, restaurants and even an oldies car show downtown on the weekend nights in the warmer months. YOUR VACATION ESCAPE: Escape to Waters Edge for a true retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and nearby North Carolina! The lake and national forest are at your doorstep. This lake home is truly waterfront with its own dock in the backyard. Bring your own boat or rent one nearby,. Keep it at the dock which is just steps from the cabin. Join our group of guests who say Waters Edge is the best cabin on Watauga Lake, and keep comin' back! Fall colors abound around Waters Edge and in the vicinity. Panoramic views are found in any direction you drive. During the winter, there are 4 ski slopes within a 40 to 50-minute drive. Enjoy the challenge and bustle of the slopes during the day, then escape to your own private mountain lake home. You will easily be able to unwind and relax in front of the home theater system, stone fireplace, Jacuzzi, or fire ring by the lake.

“Great Times”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2017

We had a great time at water's edge! The house is beautiful and very comfortable, it has everything you might need. The location is perfect if you want to get away from hustle and bustle of the city, very scenic and quiet. Absolutely loved our stay!

Owner's reply: It is a pleasure to hear how our guests truly enjoy their time at Waters Edge! We strive to create the perfect lakefront cabin experience.

“Tranquiity”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2016

This cabin is rustic and well equipped. The environment is serene, the lake is fabulous. The experience is secluded, deep in nature, private and peaceful. The access to groceries, etc is quick and easy. This is one of the best vacations we have had. I don't recommend for small children. Fabulous if you seek escape from ordinary life's stress.Regenerating! We loved it, so charming. The fire pit, the walk down the hill to the lake, the supplies in the cabin, and the location were exactly what we wanted. Escape from the demands of normal life and experience the abundance that nature provides.

Owner's reply: This is why we strive to provide the most luxurious lakefront cabin we can. We are in it for our guests! The only response that I offer is that little children love it too, but they must be under adult supervision when outside. After all, it is in the mountains and right on the water.

“Wonderful Family Vacation”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2015

We stayed at this beautiful lakefront cabin for a family get together. The cabin was just as described if anything better! The owner Scott was wonderful to work with and made the rental very stress free. I have stayed at many different personal rentals and this was by far the cleanest I have ever stayed at. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away and relax in a beautiful, spacious, lakefront cabin!! We hope to return very soon!

“Wonderful Lake Front Home”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2015

Wonderful home, with all the amenities for our family reunion. Plenty of space for all nine of us to gather together. This house is truly lake front and the lake is gorgeous!! Crystal clear water, plenty to do. We rented a pontoon boat one day, swam every day, cooked out every night. So relaxing. Be sure to grab groceries and adult beverages before you get into town, but otherwise this house has everything you'd need for a wonderful stay.

Owner's reply: We were so glad to have you as guests in our luxurious lake cabin. It delights us to hear what a great time you had. Come back anytime!

“Wonderful lakeside vacation at Watauga Lake”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

We stayed at Water's Edge lake house, Watauga Lake, in Butler, TN, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house had more than enough space for our group of ten, three generations from 60 years old to 4 years old, and our dog! Being right on the lake allowed us to swim, fish, kayak and canoe at our leisure. The house was well stocked with linens, towels and kitchen ware. We spent evenings playing pool or sitting on the back deck just enjoying the mountain summer air. All in all, it was just a terrific vacation and exactly what we were looking for.
