About the area

The Joyuda lagoon can also be accessed with kayaks. Pristine beaches and particularly the lagoon. This is secluded place for an adventure and do not even need to leave the property to experience all kinds of water activities. There is also Rat Island with a beautiful beach some 20 minutes away on kayak in very safe and tranquil waters of the Caribbean.

“Very nice Rustic house with amazing sunsets.”

Reviewed 29 Feb 2016

This house was absolutely perfect for our stay. It has an amazing view of the Caribbean Sea from patio and dock area and gets a wonderful breeze throughout the day. There are nice restaurants in the area and a fully stock supermarket. Once we were there we only went out for supplies. The double doors to the covered terrace and then out to the patio which is just a few steps from the ocean. There is a nice place to rinse off outdoors after day at the beach, so that was a huge convenience. Also, the place is well stocked with beach chairs, a cooler, towels, snorkeling gear, fishing gear and two big kayaks perfect to explore nearby beaches or cays. The beach in front of the house is full of vegetation and some rocks but a couple of aqua socks does the trick since a few steps into the water you can swim freely. If you want sandy beaches there are plenty in the area you can walk or kayak to. The snorkeling in front of the house is very good and the sunsets are amazing.

“Snorkeling Paradise...”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

The number and variety of fish we saw while snorkeling was amazing. Really, we didn't think it would be as good as it was; it exceeded our expectations and we've snorkeled off Culebra. The house itself was comfortable with a few stand out features we really enjoyed. Stuff like a washing machine and dryer are incredibly appreciated now that we have a baby. And the refrigerator was house sized, not a mini fridge. Each bedroom has an AC unit. The property is separated from the road with a remote controlled fence/ gate which makes for easy ingress and egress. There's a huge propane BBQ which we used, and loved. The description was accurate, and everything was clean and well maintained. There was a handyman who met us and there was good customer service. We liked the restaurants nearby, our favorite was Uva Playa which is a short drive away. I would recommend this property to friends or family with the proviso that it's great for someone who wants to kayak (two were provided, free), paddleboard or snorkel or do other water activities since the water is so clear (especially in the morning) and calm. The beach that the property is on is rocky, not sandy, so if you want to be in sand you can walk 5 minutes to a beach. We swam off the boat dock.

We just returned from 5 nights at Luis's house - we were two families including a 2, 4, and 5 year old. We had a great time. While not rural, the house is simple and not on the tourist track at all, a dramatic change in scene and pace from the Luquillo beaches we visited afterwards. The house is on beautiful ocean, with excellent snorkeling and kayaking right off the dock. The kitchen is small and simple, but we grilled fish every night on the patio and spent our days in the water and visiting neighboring beaches. Isla Ratones is a 15 minute kayak and well worth the trip - we spent several hours on the island and didn't see another boat. The reef just to the right of the dock had a myriad of beautiful fish and coral. We highly recommend spending a day on La Playuela, all the way down rt 201 by Los Morrillos lighthouse. About a 30 minute drive from the house and totally worth it. We also had a great afternoon/evening in Boqueron - fun seaside town with good food. The road behind the house is not safe for walking/running as it is narrow and cars fly through, but we found a nice running route just north in Mayaguez on the boardwalk.
