About San Diego

Home to some of the most consistently beautiful weather in the U.S., San Diego, California boasts 70-miles of coastline and a world of things to explore. A variety of activities and San Diego vacation rentals are waiting for you. From its beautiful coastline to the thriving nightlife along the harbor and downtown, San Diego is never bland and boring.

Things to Do

The San Diego Zoo has been named Best Zoo in the World in a traveler's choice award. With up close animal encounters, interactive exhibits, and a children's zoo, it's a place you'll remember. This 100-acre zoo also has a guided bus tour, which is a great way to acquaint yourself with the park. It's conveniently located in downtown San Diego in Balboa Park. Balboa Park is America's largest cultural park with fifteen museums. If that's not impressive enough, there are also over 90 golf courses in town. In San Diego, you'll run out of time before you run out of things to do.

When visiting this Pacific Ocean gem, the question isn't what you will do, but rather how you decide what to do. Let's start with the most popular option: beaches, including the popular Coronado Beach. Life here is all about the beach, and you can share the experience, too. Try something new or jump back into an old favorite, whether it's surfing, sailing, running, biking, swimming or diving along the city's beaches and bays. You will be fulfilling a common motto around here: "Happy happens."

There are myriad attractions here for the entire family. In fact, you've probably heard of them: SeaWorld, featuring Shamu in the whale show "Believe" San Diego Zoo Safari Park, where you can take a guided tour and see exotic animals in their large, expansive habitats; and finally LEGOLAND California, featuring dozens of rides, shows, and attractions.

Climate

San Diego enjoys near picture-perfect weather year round. Daytime temps average around 70.5 F. Warm days melt into cool nights, so bring a light jacket. If you're exploring outside of San Diego, you might be surprised by the variety of temps and should pack accordingly. Mountains and desert regions are within less than a day's drive of this coastal town.

Shopping

San Diego serves up shopping choices for every budget from outlet and discount stores to high-end boutiques. Due to the magnificent weather of this area, outdoor shopping malls are the norm. In addition to the large malls, San Diego neighborhoods provide a number of one-of-a-kind boutiques, antique stores, galleries, restaurants, and bistros. Take the time to explore Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, the Seaport Village District, and Old Town.

Events

San Diego serves up many culinary events fit for even a finicky foodie. Baja by the Sea in August is followed by Restaurant Week in September. At both events you can sample many of the delights of the area. Also in August is the Farm to Bay Food & Wine Classic. In addition to culinary events, there are a number of sporting, music, and cultural events year round. There's even a Starfest in mid-August, which calls attention to the beautiful nighttime skies in this area.

Nightlife

With so much to do, you will easily develop a big hunger for great dining. Some of the most popular eateries in this seaside city include Bertrand at Mister A's and the Melting Pot, both of which serve American food downtown. If Italian is your choice, visit Baci Ristorante Italian in Old Town. If you are a connoisseur of steak, make sure you pay a visit to Donovan's of Downtown.

Speaking of nightlife, stargazing isn't the only evening activity to do in San Diego. This town offers Vegas-style gaming just 30-45 minutes from downtown. San Diego's casinos were developed by Native Americans on tribal land. Enjoy slots, games, amazing buffets, and top musical and comic headliners. San Diego's casinos are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

San Diego has so many things to do; the hard part is not deciding to come but trying to figure out how you'll squeeze everything you want to do into your trip. From outdoor activities among blue skies, like whale watching and strolling the beach, to exploring its thriving arts and culinary communities, San Diego is a town with it all. Take advantage of San Diego vacation home rentals and enjoy the comforts of home - plenty of space, options for privacy, and cost-saving meals that you can prepare yourself in the kitchen.
