Re-live Cape May's golden age in this ocean-front Victorian 'cottage' built in 1881. If you want to know what summer life was like - for a lucky few, this is the place to be. Ocean views and breezes, high ceilings, massive period furniture, large, airy rooms, an expansive, fully fenced garden, off-street parking for four large cars - and much more - make this house truly unique.

Double front porches overlook the ocean in front, and double back porches overlook the large, private garden. There are screened porches on the ground floor, front and rear.

The property provides everything needed for a wide range of life-styles. The classic living and dining rooms are perfect for formal entertaining, but there is plenty of space for just 'hanging out' - on the four large porches front and rear, in the second floor sitting room/TV room, in the new family room/playroom, the screened in gazebo, the covered and paved pergola, the children's playhouse, or anywhere in the large, fully-fenced garden. You can dine formally in the dining room, in the intimate screened dining porch adjacent to the dining room, or in the very large kitchen, the family room/playroom next to it, with a 'pass-through' in between. It retains all of the elegance and charm with which it was built - along with much of the original furniture that was built for it - and it has been carefully upgraded, with a new, state-of-the-art kitchen, new and updated bathrooms, a three-zone air conditioning system, and a four-zone heating system.

This is the perfect location in Cape May. Virtually everything, including the famous beach and the Washington Street pedestrian shopping "mall", with a supermarket, bakery, restaurants and shops, is a few-minutes' walk from the house - or even less by bicycle - so if you want, you can just park the cars in back and forget about them.

The house has seven bedrooms, including two master bedroom suites, one on the second floor and the other on the third floor. Both have unobstructed ocean views and ensuite bathrooms.

Two more bedrooms face the ocean, and three more face the garden. There are six full baths on all four floors. One bedroom on the second-floor can also serve as a sitting room/TV room, with a satellite-TV and a Blu-Ray DVD.

There is state of the art kitchen, with a Bosch 5-burner cook-top, twin GE Monogram ovens, two refrigerators, etc., etc., a large table for those who like to eat in the kitchen, and another table in the adjacent, brand-new family-room/playroom, with its handy 'pass-through' to the kitchen.

There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

The large family-room/playroom has a new flat-screen TV connected to the DirectTV satellite, a large, 'professional' foosball game, and a collection of board games, jig-saw puzzles, etc. It is a perfect place for young people to hang out evenings and on (hopefully rare) rainy days.

In the garden there is a children's playhouse, with furniture and toys. The garden is fully-fenced.

About the area

The house is in the heart of the Cape May historic district. On three sides, it is surrounded by prime examples of Victorian architecture, including the Congress Hall Hotel, which is less than 50 yards away. On the fourth, is an unobstructed view of the Atlantic. Virtually everything that Cape May has to offer is within a five- or 10-minute walk. The beach is 100 yards away. The Washington Street pedestrian "Mall" is also 100 yards away, with restaurants and shops, including a supermarket, a bakery, several "gourmet" food shops, restaurants, etc. The Cape May Tennis Club is a few blocks beyond the "Mall".
