Reviews for this vacation home rental in Carbondale, Pennsylvania

We are originally from the area so the lake was an ideal place to find a rental- Jack's place was so perfect! What might be lost in curb appeal, is certainly made up inside- quiet, warm and cozy! We are a family of pups- the dogs loved the area for walking and running. The lake views were fabulous- the property is right on the water! The kitchen is open, the bedrooms spacious and the bathrooms cozy and clean. Considering winter conditions, the rain and snow, the very warm mud room was a favorite room for both the pups and us to warm up. I found the location to be private, safe and well suited for our needs; Carbondale and Clifford are a short ride, restaurants are right around the corner and I81 is just 10/15 minutes away. We will definitely rent again for our next trip up to the area! Jack and his son were both accomodating and helpful- From making reservations to the day we moved in communication was great and responsive!

This cottage was perfect for our family. Very clean, pictures and description on the internet are very accurate. Sally answered all my questions by email and was a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend booking this property.

Some friends and I stayed at the house for New Years and we all had such a great time. The house was very clean and it was great having two full bathrooms. Everyone enjoyed how beautiful the lake looked. Carbondale was only a short drive away so we were able pick up everything we needed and also do some shopping. Overall, our experience at the house was phenomenal and we will definitely be coming back.

We had such a great time!

We stayed at Jack's House 5 people (my husband, me ,my daughter 16th years old ,my son 25 , his girlfriend and our family dog ) the week of 4th of July and had a very good time. The place is a dog friendly (not easy to rent a house in the Pocono that allowed dogs) The Newton Lake is beautiful, clean and if you are a fisherman this is a great lake to fish. Fire pit was awesome - raw boat is sufficient . Drinking my coffee on the porch each morning was very relaxing. For us this place was a true break from our often busy lives. It gave us a much needed opportunity to completely unplug! Thanks for a great time!!!

We were disappointed . First you pass all of these nice homes then at the end of the road you see a dump. Cars are parked all around and the house is in the back It looks like a run down house. The Stove was filthy as were the grills They advertise you can use the boat . When you look at the boat the life jackets are in the boat laying in the water they were moldy , there were no shade on the upstairs bedrooms so we slept on the couches downstairs. Would not go back
I am sorry they were disappointed. The home was built as a summer cottage in the 1920's, the interior was renovated around 2000. The outside looks like a cottage. The house is 100 ft from the lake, so its down a small hill. All the windows have blinds. It had just rained so the boat had water but there were dry life jackets in the mud room. There are 3 cars near the garage, they're not near the house. Every effort is made to keep the house clean between renters, including the grills & stove.
Not bad, not good

The lake and neighborhood are nice. Home is in OK shape. There are no blankets and the beds are in pretty bad shape. The place has not been taken care of needs some attention but Ok value for price.
I am glad that you enjoyed the lake and I am sorry that you didn't realize that you needed to bring your own linens including blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, etc. The house was originally built in the 1920's and the interior was renovated around 2000. I continually do projects to try to keep things updated and will be doing more projects after the summer rental season as the house is occupied, including replacing some mattresses. Hope to see you back another time.
Very relaxing location!

Great location for the Steamtown Marathon as the start is just 15 minutes away. Good sized house with a nice kitchen and living area. Great having a washer and dryer with a 2 year old around. My daughter loved all the toys you provided. The lake looked beautiful and wished we had brought our kayaks but perhaps we will be back. Thanks for making our stay relaxing and easy!
had a blast

The outdoor amenities speak for themselves. Firepit and charcoal grille was awesome - fishing boat was great, newton lake is beautiful. Drinking my coffee on the porch each morning set the tone for the day. Thanks for a great time!!!
Fishing cabin. Not suitable for families.
August 11, 2011
I was going to stay in this play with my in-laws from NYC & we had 2 crawling babies & a 4 yr old. The owner told me it would be suitable for us but unfortunately, that was not true. The pictures on the web are deceiving. The place is a fishing cabin with dirty carpets that looked like they were from the 70's and hadn't been cleaned in a long, long time. Obviously it wasn't a place that I could feel good about letting our babies crawl around. I paid 1/2 up front + a $100 security deposit. Once I arrived in PA & was able to see the place, I knew it definitely wasn't going to work for us. I cancelled the reservation which effectively screwed up our whole vacation (nowhere to stay). Even though it was very late in the game, I don't feel I should be out $275 for a place we didn't even stay in. Although the owner was relatively pleasant to deal with, he told me he likely wouldn't be able to refund any of my money since it was late & he likely wouldn't be able to find others to rent it so late. Perhaps there should be more pictures on the website of the dirty rugs & the door covered with NASCAR stickers. Perhaps they should tell you it's not suitable for small children when you ask. Unfortunately, that did not happen & I'm out $275 because of it. Seems pretty crumby to me. Overall, it was a really bad deal for me. Hopefully, this review will help others to make a more informed decision.
The home is rented to many families and adults, many of which have pets. The interior of the home was renovated around 2000. The downstairs carpet was replaced about 1 year ago and was steam cleaned shortly before their arrival. Keeping the carpets clean can be challenging as dogs and kids are in and out of the house and the lake swimming. The home is cleaned between renters. For small children I would recommend using a playpen as the home is not childproofed.

I rented this last year for guys fishing trip. Guys loved it. This year they were a little disappointed. The house is great but other things need a little work.

Our families first impression of the house was "yikes". There isn't exactly a driveway, so you either have to park really close to the street, or in the beach parking lot next door to the house, which isn't really a problem, just annoying. The home was clean overall, so no complaints there really. The bathrooms were roomy, and so were the bedrooms. Cable? A joke, 5 channels. The neighbors were literally right on top of you, the nextdoor home was 4 feet from this house. The matresses & beds in the bedrooms need to be replaced, desperately. They were very unstable, and uncomfortable, and really just need to be replaced. The floors & walls were nice and clean. The place didn't feel dirty. Overall the home was in decent condition aside the beds. The refrigerator needs to be thrown into a dumpster ASAP and needs to be replaced, it was pretty grimey. The lake was beautiful, and the location was great because it was near a nice little town with a bunch of restaurants and stores and such, but you were just way too close to your neighbors! For the price we paid per night, it was worth it in the end for the most part, but I wouldn't bring my family here again, it's probably more of a house for a couple of kids in their 20's for the weekend. As for the owner, he was an extremely pleasant guy, very easy to work with. Overall we had a good time, it just wasn't the place for us.

Very nice interior with new hardwoods, comfortable, warm and spacious. Great view of the lake. Within 6 miles of any shopping you need. A little difficult to navigate the very steep very thin driveway under 6" of snow, the house smelled very strongly of smoke, and the master bed is unsleepable due to age. Bring a sleeping bag.
Just what we needed!

Wonderful place to stay. Everything I expected and more. Very nice community, easy to find, and very private. Beach area next door left a huge yard for my boys to play in. Access to lake is steps away. Two baths was a great plus with 5 of us. Everything needed to cook our meals was available (very convenient). Charcoal for the grill (gas grill also)and firewood for the fire pit provided. Very friendly owners and would not hesitate to stay again. We are looking forward to returning.
