Description from owner

Donna's Carlsbad Beach House offers fabulous panoramic ocean views, an enclosed yard, and a short walk to the sandy beach in Carlsbad.

It has two bedrooms, one full bath, a small but complete kitchen, laundry facilities, and off-street parking. Wireless internet access is included.

The kitchen, dining area, and living room look out to the ocean, and you can also see a bit of the ocean from one of the bedrooms.

The house is fully equipped in every respect, and features a large flat panel TV, an electric fireplace, and comfortable beds. There is a fenced front yard with magnificent ocean views, and a private enclosed back patio area.

It is located in a safe neighborhood, on a cul-de-sac. The beach is one block away, with a beautiful lagoon inlet in between. To get to the beach you can walk along an easy scenic trail bordering the lagoon. The walk is about 1 1/2 blocks.

Beds: 2 Queen Beds

About the area

Donna's Carlsbad Beach House is nestled in a small residential enclave of private homes, so you can enjoy greater privacy, safety and a more relaxing atmosphere, yet be close to everything! ... but it is just 1 mile from the center of Carlsbad's "Village" area which bustles with visitors to the many restaurants, boutiques, cafes, and small shops located there. Also in the Village is the Coaster Train. Taking the Coaster to San Diego is relaxing and fun. The beach is a short walk away -- about 1 1/2 blocks. It is a sandy beach, with lifeguards (summer only) restrooms, and showers. Waterskiing, jetskiing, kayaking, sailing, and fishing are all available at the nearby lagoon. Whale watching, and deepsea fishing excursion depart from Oceanside Harbor, six miles away. Carlsbad Premium Outlets shopping center and Legoland theme park are both about 5 minutes away. SeaWorld and the San Diego airport are about 35 minutes by car, and all the sights of San Diego and the Zoo are about 45 minutes. Disneyland is about 45 minutes to the north.

“Summer vacation.”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2016

What a wonderful vacation we had. We were very happy with Donna's Beach house. They had everything we could think of. It is really nice to not have to bring beach chairs.umbrellas and boogie boards. Donna and her husband are the sweetest people ever. We would definitely recommend this place

Owner's reply: Aloha , Trujillo family . It was great to meet all of you . Thanks for all the sweet extra things you did for us . It is great to have such five star guests bless our little cottage . Mahalo , Donna and Joe

“Great Place!”

This is a great place close to both the ocean and the downtown area. The house has been updated and it was great not having anyone above us or having to walk up stairs. Will will definitely try to book this place again in the Future!

“Joyful relaxation”

Reviewed 25 May 2016

The perfect spot where you can do as much or as little as you want to do. It's fun to watch the daily dog walkers, to walk down to the lagoon or over to the ocean...or just relax and sit out in the front yard or in the lovely patio in the back. The beach cottage is very tastefully decorated and comfortable for a small family gathering.

Owner's reply: How blessed we were to meet the Crocketts , classy five star guests . Meeting such gracious folks makes this a fun adventure . We hope you will come back often !

“Great Views and Good Acccomodations”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2016

This is a great little beach house in Carlsbad across from the beach. It is a two bedroom one bathroom, with kitchen, bar b que and fire pit. It does accept dogs and is a short walk to the beach but shorter walk to the lagoon. This house is great for those with disabilities because it's easy to get in and out of and easy to get around. They have a shower outside for washing off after a beach visit. They have a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, oven stove and full refrigerator. No coffee grinder though so bring your own. It is a small walk to the downtown village and across the street is the ocean wall walkway which makes for a great morning or after dinner walk. The street is quiet and very safe.

Owner's reply: Thanks Monica . We loved having you as our guests , five star guests always . Wish there was a dishwasher . We are working on that . Please come back often . Mahalo , Donna

“Heaven on earth...”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2015

The couple was amazing, the home was even better than expected and I am hoping they adopt me so I can stay forever. It truly is the best little cabin for a couple or family to spend quality time. The photos don't do it justice and we fell in love the moment we arrived. Donna and Joe were so beautiful and we bonded over a favourite book... It was a privilege to stay in their home.

Owner's reply: Aloha ! What a delight it was when these three adorable women walked in the door . They brought with them a bundle of positive energy , smiles and good vibes to grace our cottage by the sea . We will bend over backwards for them when they return . Mahalo Joe and Donna

“Beautiful and relaxing”

This little gem is so relaxing I was relaxed the moment I stepped inside. It is so complete you will not need to bring anything. The location is awesome, you can walk to just about everything, downtown village, the beach, restaurants and shops. I recommend this cozy little place to anyone, forgo the fancy hotels and enjoy your own private little getaway. The owners are very accomodating and helpful.

Owner's reply: Thanks Monica . How blessed we were to have you as our guests .... five star guests for sure . Have a wonderful summer , Mahalo , Donna

“Nice easy dog friendly home”

Reviewed 11 Mar 2015

Nice house. Suited our needs very well. Great for our dog to have a fenced yard, walking paths close and easy in and out. Great for us to walk to the village in ten-fifteen minutes, the beach in five and a view outside the door. Good restaurants all around, a short drive to everything SD has to offer. The bedroom is fine with a firm queen sized bed and plenty of closet space. The second bedroom is kinda funny. We called it the hospital room:) as curtains divide it from the living area and two twins push together but don't join and easily spread apart with movement. Comfortable beds though and it was fine, just a little funny. Convenient garage with washer/dryer, storage space, beach stuff. Out door shower with hot water was really nice for us and to keep our pup clean. Manager was really nice and easy to deal with. Around when we needed something but never intrusive. Owner was easy to deal with and very nice as well. We would stay again. Would be perfect for small family with a dog. In a safe, nice neighborhood close but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and send a big thanks to Barbara and Genny? for everything. If you choose this place you won't be sorry.

Owner's reply: Aloha Tim. Thanks for the wonderful review , but this is not my cottage , but the one next door . However you are right on about everything . Barbara is my friend who helps me with my reservations . Our cottage is the one with the white picket fence you see when you are on the lawn . Barbara, Genny & I all work together to keep our guests happy . Sometimes we even use all three cottages for family reunions . Mahal, Donna

“Our recent stajy at Donna's cottage”

This is a lovely cottage which provides a beautiful view of the lagoon and the ocean. We enjoyed sitting in the front yard & watching the beautiful sunsets. The inclusion of the parking pass for Tamarack Beach was a bonus. My husband & I really enjoyed our stay and found the cottage perfect for the two of us. Donna and Joe were wonderful gracious hosts who made sure we felt welcome and comfortable.

Owner's reply: ALOHA where do we find such lovely five star guests ? Many thanks to our delightful desert friends for leaving the cottage with some personal touches that didn't go un noticed and going the extra mile . MAHALO , Donna

“We loved Donna's Beach Cottage!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2014

We loved our stay at Donna's Beach cottage--it was so comfortable, relaxing and YOU CAN"T BEAT THE VIEW!! Every morning, we sat on the front room couch or in the front lawn, enjoying the view of the ocean and our morning coffee. We didn't need to bring anything from home except our suits when going to the beach (it was just a short walk over) as everything else was supplied (fresh towels, beach chairs, boogie boards). We also enjoyed the lovely landscape and soft green grass in the yard! We would love to come back and strongly recommend staying here!

Owner's reply: The Grigo family were five star guests . What a great pleasure it was to meet them . We couldn't help but notice gracious & charming little touches that graces our cottage by the sea after they left . We rated them FIVE STARS and we cannot wait for them to return . MAHALO

“Pure Relaxation”

Reviewed 25 Jun 2014

Staying at Donna's Carlsbad beach cottage is like going back in time to the simplicity of the 50's. It's like going to 'Grandma's house' at the beach. Sweet, charming, comfortable, bright and sunny, and surprisingly private since it's on a corner lot. You can lounge on the couch and read a book or just sit and stare out the huge picture window at the ocean as the refreshing breeze wafts in. We enjoyed playing with our dog in the front yard that's enclosed by a picket fence, we never had to worry about her out there. The house is fully stocked with almost everything you could need, there was even a wagon we could take into town with us to put our little, old weeniedog in when she pooped out from too much walking! My favorite aspects of the place are the amazing views of the ocean, the charm and character of a true beach 'cottage', the pre-1990's-water-rationing showerhead which is oh so wonderful (haven't felt water pressure like that in years!), the proximity to any and every place you'd want to go, the amazing fresh air breezes that sweep through the entire cottage when the windows are opened, the safe feeling of the neighborhood and the friendly neighbors, and all the modern conveniences thrown in like wifi, cable tv, flat screen tv, microwave, firepit, etc. The down sides were that the queen bed in one room is a little uncomfortable and the canopy bed frame squeaks every time you move, the living room furniture could be updated for a little more comfort, people park across the street in front of the house to fish at the lagoon and can sometimes be noisy but usually only for a few minutes if at all. But those things are minor compared to the annoyances at most hotels we've stayed at in the past year. We have already booked our next stay at Donna's cottage and can't wait for it.

It's great!

Why would anyone want to stay in a hotel when they could stay in a dreamy little cottage by the seashore ? It is my idea of heaven on earth....makes life worth living and renews my energy just being around all the Village people who are so upbeat !

Donnas little beach cottage was more than we expected. Donna and her husband Joe treated us like family and made us feel like we were part of the neighborhood , locals , not tourists. The decor was fresh and beachy and fun ! They supplied us with everything we needed for a getaway , including a free parking pass for the Tamarak State Beach , also good for all the state parks and beaches. The best part was that we were able to bring along an important part of our family , Muffin . Each night we celebrated the sunsets and will treasure those memories forever. The day after arriving home , my husband left for Afganistan.

We spent some winter months in Donnas Beach Cottage and found the ambiance of the cottage delightful. I was able to bring my work with me and sit by the big window and watch the waves while I worked . The cottage was supplied with a nice flat screened TV , cable & wireless internet connection.
My huband golfed nearby and after we watched the sunset we would dine in the nearby resturants and walk around the village feeling very safe . I was facinated by the shops in the Village , so unique. Later I discovered the OUTLETS Mall just south of the cottage . We can't wait to returned and have already reserved for next year.

This was our 2nd stay in Donna's Beach Cottage and it was fun to see the excitment as our two little boys bailed out of the car and ran for the hammock and said they remember this little cottage from the summer before . It has become our home away from home . Many of our Arizona friends book during the same two weeks so we can all hang out at the beach together . It is soooo worth the long drive to the little cottage we call home !

We did something fun this summer for a family reunion . We discovered two other beach cottages almost next door and combined them with Donna's cottage and then Donna said she would rent out her maid's quarter located in the back of her property for our grandmother so she could have a quiet getaway of her own. We gathered often at the beach and yet everyone had their own private cottage while we had our family reunion. It worked great and hope it can happen again in two years.

We recently stayed in Donna's Beach cottage and loved every thing about it . It is a very happy little cottage . After visiting with the longtime members of the neighborhood, we learned a little bit of history about this little house. Years ago a local music man named Arno Kimsey recorded Jewel in this little cottage , long before she became famous. As you enter the blue bedroom with the canopy , you will see the big lights , left there as a reminder of those days the room was used as a recording studio. Then we learned that ,Sean Watkins of the emmy award winning group NICKEL CREEK , livedin the cottage for five years while he wrote music and recorded. His favorite bedroom was the one with the bay window that looks out to the ocean . What once was his recording studio is now the maid's quarters out in the back and Donna let us rent it for a few days while my Dad came to visit us so he could have his privacy. Since we are fans of both NICKEL CREEK and JEWEL , we were glad they shared this with us . I am a writer and I can see why this little cottage can inspire a person . Loved my stay and hope to return often !

We wish to express our graditude to all of you who have been so kind and gracious to us during your stays in our cottage during our first year of experiencing vacation home rentals . It has been both a pleasant and exciting adventure getting to meet all of you . We are amazed at the great people you are and how you have enriched our lives and blessed our cottage. Some of you have even been so kind to leave little additions that we find after you have left for home . What is even more amazing is that you have always left our little cottage so clean .....how thoughtful of you ! We wish to express a huge thank you to our dear friend and neighbor , Barbara Ryan who inspired us to take this leap , as she is the owner of THE BEST SPOT IN CARLSBAD and we work together to help make your stay be the best possible . Many sincere thanks to all of you , from the owners of Donna's Carlsbad Beach Cottage , Joe and Donna

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR IF YOU WILL HAVE US BACK ! tHANKS

We will be back to celebrate our anniversary. It is so romantic , especially if the moon is full and bright. Thanks !
