Description of the Carnelian Bay vacation home rental
Note - Regarding renter reviews, we are new to vacationhomerentals, so I copied our reviews from another site that we have used for years. You can find the originals on vacation rentals by owner, see property #34623 - all 5 star. We have been renting North Tahoe Heaven since 1992.

Our internet friendly, non-smoking mountain home has wonderful Tahoe ambience: old-style heavy-beamed architecture, knotty pine interior, two big decks and a wall of glass that looks out through a forest of pines to the lake. Antiques, artifacts of mountain living, lodge-style furniture, and beautiful prints and paintings all add to the feeling that you have arrived at a better place.

With a 40 foot great room, our Heaven is completely comfortable for groups of ten. At the same time, single couples have also told us how enjoyable it is to spend time in such a spacious environment. Moreover, our rates are low because we were fortunate enough to buy this house years ago, before Tahoe real estate prices tripled.

Summer or winter, activities are close at hand. Walk to the lake, or to our gorgeous homeowner’s club with pool, volleyball court and tennis courts. One block up are trailheads for hiking or mountain biking into the national forest. Seven ski areas, multiple golf courses, boating, parasailing and Nevada gambling are all just a short -- and breathtaking -- drive away. At night, snuggle up to fireplace (wood provided, naturally) or walk outside and marvel at the Milky Way, the blazing moon and shooting stars.

Children will spend hours in our tree fort, complete with sliding pole and its own deck! Five blocks up from Highway 28, we’re free of vehicle noise. Few cars come up our road, and children can play safely to their heart's content. Sleds and saucers, legos, toys and games can provide day-long children’s entertainment.

While brimming with old Tahoe charm, our home has every modern amenity. High speed wireless internet service is available. The kitchen is fully out-fitted, and the appliances are new. Three TV's including a flat-screen HD TV, VCRs and DVD players are available for your entertainment. A washer and dryer are on site. A library of children's videos is available for your use. Our four bedrooms provide two queen and six single beds, with a queen sleeper sofa available in the great room. Linens are provided, and out on deck our Weber gas grill is ready to cook up your favorite meals.

So leave those work boots behind, and come to Heaven. Come up to sunny days, clean mountain air, and the freedom to do nothing more than enjoy the thrill of being at Tahoe.
Area Information
Lake Tahoe offers magnificent scenery. Mark Twain called it, “The fairest sight the whole earth affords." There are a number of major ski areas around Lake Tahoe, including Squaw Valley (and there is a great Olympic Museum, free, in Tahoe City, only about 5 miles away!) In the summer, recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, boating, biking, kayaking, tennis and golf. Lake is ringed by beautiful beaches, several only a few minutes away by car and one within walking distance.

Our home is in North Lake Tahoe, which is the quieter and more peaceful end of the lake, with far less traffic. Nevertheless, there is still gambling to be had in some historic casinos a few miles from our home. Also, many restaurants are also available and provide a wide variety of cuisines. Our summer renters have access to our homeowners club, which provides a gorgeous swimming pool, beach volleyball, tennis, snack bar and spa. Our particular location is in an area with little traffic. It has a good sized yard, a big swing, a treehouse, and is a great place to let kids be kids.

Rob, We had a fabulous time this past weekend staying at your house. The two feet of fresh powder turned everything into wonderland, probably the prettiest I've ever seen Tahoe. The kids loved playing in the snow and so did the adults. It was truly magical. You have a fantastic property, thanks for renting it out to us. I hope we left everything in good shape. Take care, A.W.

My family has rented this house every year for the last 6 years. We love the location! We have a large extended family who comes with us, and there are plenty of beds and floor space for some kids. The house is always very clean.I have recommended this to other family members who were also very pleased to stay here. A short drive to great beaches, we also drive over to Reno one night to take the kids to Circus Circus and we visit Squaw Valley resort area which is just a short drive away. We love the fact that there are 2 decks, so if you want sun or you dont you will be happy!

This is a beautiful place to stay with plenty of things to do near by during any season hiking, swimming, boating, golfing, & skiing. Near by areas: Truckee, Tahoe City, South Shore, and Reno. My husband and I have stayed here many times with our 2 children over the years and enjoy the large upstairs living room/ kitchen area, decks, and sleeping accommodations. Very nice to have the bedrooms downstairs and living area upstairs with great view. I even went up for a girls get away with a few friends. The property has always been immaculate and everything in great condition. I have a friend who rented in the winter for a family reunion and used North Star ski area near-by. The owner, Rob, is very helpful & keeps the place in great shape. We also enjoy going to Sunny side and Garwood restaurants. We love it here!!!

We stayed in this home with our two teenage sons and five other teenagers ages 17-19 for some summer fun at Lake Tahoe. It worked so well for us as parents and for the kids. (The dog loved it, too!) The extra-large, well-appointed great room, excellent open kitchen space and choice of two spacious private decks on the upper floor, plus the private setting in Agate Bay (yet in a lovely neighborhood) offered the perfect combination for our group. Thanks to the "upside-down" architecture, the upper floor common areas featured cathedral ceilings and lots of light and glass. Plus, the bedrooms and two full bathrooms on the ground level allowed everyone a place to rest comfortably away from the main living areas. Great location, setting and design, whether for "just" our family or family and friends -- we look forward to returning!

An extended family of ten adults and children used the house for a wonderful summer week at Lake Tahoe. The large top level room contained the living area, dining area and kitchen and was just super. It has lots of glass, deck access and a high ceiling. This large space gave the whole family opportunity to be together while meals were prepared and served, spending time playing games or reading, cleaning up in the evening and any other activity. The lower level bedrooms are not large but adequate. The cleanliness of the entire house was notable. The property location is excellent and convenient to Safeway and nearby beaches. We enjoyed the local swim facility. The children had a great time with the use of the tree-house.

This house was perfect for 9 of us including 4 kids. Having all of the bedrooms together was great and allowed the adults to hang out after the kids went to bed with no fear of waking anyone. The rooms aren't huge but we were able to squeeze portable cribs into both of the twin rooms. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed sitting at the counter as well as the large dining room table (sat 9 people easily with the extensions) There is plenty of seating in the great room and the kids loved having toys there. The yard was a perfect spot for the kids to play in the snow and we enjoyed the trails and neighborhood around the house. The internet also worked really well which is always a bonus in Tahoe! It's always hard to tell how child-friendly a house is online but this worked well and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Rob was great to work with and the house was perfect for our family vacation in Tahoe! We've stayed in Tahoe before, but this home definitely gave a more "cabin-y" feeling, which the kids loved. Nestled in a small community in a well forested area, which made for a quick walk to areas great for exploration. The tree house was well used by the kids. The location was perfect! Close to so many beaches, including Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach (and the dog friendly Coons Landing at Kings Beach), and even Sand Harbor beach (our families favorite). Squaw Valley is not a far drive, either. Plenty of restaurants nearby as well as a Safeway for all your grocery shopping. The house was very clean, lots of extra bedding and had plenty of room for our family of 8. The kids are already asking when we can come back!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the nearest ski areas?
A: Northstar is about 7 miles. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are about 12 miles.
Q: How far is the beach?
A: You can walk to the nearest beach - Patton Beach in Carnelian Bay. It's about a mile. Better beaches are in Tahoe Vist, which is 1.5 miles but you have to drive to get there. Easy parking on the road.
Q: How close are hiking trails?
A: You can hike from our front door - no need to drive. Walk about 150 yards up Tripoli Road and take a right onto the dirt fire road. This leads up to many other trails, some with good views of the entire Tahoe basin. It also leads up to the Tahoe Rim Trail, which is more than 100 miles long around the lake.
Q: How far are the casinos?
A: About 3 miles, just past Kings Beach to the east on Highway 28. There are some great old casinos from the 30s that still have their old Tahoe architecture.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant?
A: Lone Eagle Grill, in Incline Village. Like a National Park Lodge inside, and right on the lake. There are plenty of other excellent lakefront restaurants, too.
