Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in Carrabelle Beach, Florida

A great base to explore the forgotten coast
September 21, 2014
The owner's son was prompt and helpful in the process of renting this cottage on McKissack Pond. As other reviewers have noted, there is abundant wildlife around the cottage: we saw a deer right in the backyard when we arrived and although we did not see a black bear as others have done, we did see bear tracks one early evening in the soft sand of the drive. The cottage is located right off 98 and very near a public boat launch at the nearest Marina, where we took our kayak and very successfully fished the channel of the harbor. We caught the largest speckled trout in our career as fishermen and a good-sized red, ,too. Apalachicola is 20 minutes to the West; Panacea, about 20 minutes to the East; and St. Marks and Wakulla Springs within an easy hour's drive. Three of the best restaurants, serving delicious and inexpensive fresh seafood, are also nearby: the Fisherman's Wife in Carrabelle (great hushpuppies and fried shrimp!), Posey's in Panacea (the best stuffed flounder you will ever eat, anywhere), and Up the Creek in Apalachicola (beautiful setting, dog friendly, with several fresh catch entrees featured every night . . . we had grilled amberjack, delicious!). Carrabelle Junction (a breakfast/lunch joint off the harbor near the post office) has great coffee for 50 cents a cup and fine pastries and pleasant outside seating for waiting out a rain shower. And don't miss the vintage concrete, peach and teal-colored, covered picnic tables at Carrabelle's public beach. And you can walk your dog there on a leash if you promise to clean up after!

This was a great cabin on a lake very close to the Carabella Beach. The cabin is near the Tate Hell Forest entrance. The first night we had a bear walk through the yard. Very comfortable and cozy! Would stay here again if we were in the area.

Quiet & Peaceful

The location on the lake and short drive to the beach are the definite good things about this home. It's a great base to work from when seeing the rest of the area. The lake has lots of wildlife, especially in the morning and evenings.

A wonderfully peaceful, clean, private place to enjoy some of the best Florida has to offer. This place is heads above other places in the area in not only ammenities but price and location. Short drive to all of Florida's Forgotten Coast. A GREAT FIND!! I will be back to this area and this is where I will stay.

Jeanne, My husband and I enjoyed staying in your pleasant and spacious cottage so much! I loved sitting on the deck and looking at the lake. I had searched for a place where we could avoid the crowds and Lake McKissack cottage was the place for that.
