Nice view, quiet, could use some updates. New sheets would be nice. Would stay again. Enjoyed stay.

nice place to stay, improvements would be: new better mattresses, up dated dining table, up dated curtains, possible dishwasher, more than one key to house, steps to front and back decks need some repair, we had a very nice and relaxing time enjoyed it very much would rent again

The owner's son was prompt and helpful in the process of renting this cottage on McKissack Pond. As other reviewers have noted, there is abundant wildlife around the cottage: we saw a deer right in the backyard when we arrived and although we did not see a black bear as others have done, we did see bear tracks one early evening in the soft sand of the drive. The cottage is located right off 98 and very near a public boat launch at the nearest Marina, where we took our kayak and very successfully fished the channel of the harbor. We caught the largest speckled trout in our career as fishermen and a good-sized red, ,too. Apalachicola is 20 minutes to the West; Panacea, about 20 minutes to the East; and St. Marks and Wakulla Springs within an easy hour's drive. Three of the best restaurants, serving delicious and inexpensive fresh seafood, are also nearby: the Fisherman's Wife in Carrabelle (great hushpuppies and fried shrimp!), Posey's in Panacea (the best stuffed flounder you will ever eat, anywhere), and Up the Creek in Apalachicola (beautiful setting, dog friendly, with several fresh catch entrees featured every night . . . we had grilled amberjack, delicious!). Carrabelle Junction (a breakfast/lunch joint off the harbor near the post office) has great coffee for 50 cents a cup and fine pastries and pleasant outside seating for waiting out a rain shower. And don't miss the vintage concrete, peach and teal-colored, covered picnic tables at Carrabelle's public beach. And you can walk your dog there on a leash if you promise to clean up after!

This was a great cabin on a lake very close to the Carabella Beach. The cabin is near the Tate Hell Forest entrance. The first night we had a bear walk through the yard. Very comfortable and cozy! Would stay here again if we were in the area.

The location on the lake and short drive to the beach are the definite good things about this home. It's a great base to work from when seeing the rest of the area. The lake has lots of wildlife, especially in the morning and evenings.
Awful....a complete disappointment!

Re: Lake McKissack Cottage on Carrabelle Beach We are extremely upset about the above rental house we had booked from 7/10-7/17/11. We drove 500 miles to vacation at this rental house in Carrabelle Beach, FL that we had booked. Upon arrival we found the house dirty, run-down with feces in the toilet, holes in closet doors, rusty shower heads, cabinet doors hanging off, cracked window and a bad smell throughout. We had sent a check to pay the deposit in advance and it had already been cashed. The owners, who were very obnoxious and rude people, would not refund us our deposit after we told them we didn't want to spend our anniversary vacation in this dirty, run-down house. They also threatened to call the police on us and still have $ 350.00 of our money for nothing as we never stayed at the house. An immediate response from your company is in order as we are considering legal action at this time, in addition to reporting your agency to the Better Business Bureau. This is an abhorrent way to do business. We immediately sent a reply email when we got this survey on July 10 as well as calling your rental company and leaving messages. We never got any reply.

A wonderfully peaceful, clean, private place to enjoy some of the best Florida has to offer. This place is heads above other places in the area in not only ammenities but price and location. Short drive to all of Florida's Forgotten Coast. A GREAT FIND!! I will be back to this area and this is where I will stay.

Had a very good stay. The cottage was very comfortable and very clean. We spent our time fishing and enjoyed the time we were there. We would definitely go back.

Jeanne, My husband and I enjoyed staying in your pleasant and spacious cottage so much! I loved sitting on the deck and looking at the lake. I had searched for a place where we could avoid the crowds and Lake McKissack cottage was the place for that.
