Description from owner
Step back into yesteryear with the all the modern conveniences of today in this quaint Log Cabin nestled amid the Nantahala National Forest. This cabin is so cute you won't ever want to leave! The completely private backyard has a small pond and waterfall to help you unwind! It is conveniently located right in the middle of Cashiers and Highlands (about 11 miles to either). Both towns are fabulous! Shop til you drop for anything you could imagine, and dine with the best! Master chefs and fabulous restaurants abound, or stay back at the cabin and cook in your fully equipped modernized kitchen!
There are two bedrooms (both upstairs). The master bedroom has a fabulous king size bed and the second bedroom has an equally comfy queen size bed. (We are fanatics when it comes to sleeping well on vacation! Comfort is very important to us, as well as the comfort of our guests!) There is a wonderful double reclining sofa and leather recliner in the living room for total meltdown after a busy day of hiking, exploring or shopping in Cashiers or Highlands! The livingroom has a beautiful stone fireplace and an ambience that takes you back in time. The covered front & back porches have rocking chairs, and a dining set. Enjoy your dinner outside, and melt into a rocking chair, or simply play checkers! Later in the evening, cozy round the fire pit in the totally private back yard in a big comfy adirondack chair.
If you are a nature lover or a hiker, you will absolutely love it here. We are less than two miles from the trailhead of Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area of the Nantahala and a short hike from the Chattooga River, made famous in the movie "Deliverance".
The cabin is also a short distance from Franklin, Bryson City and Cherokee. And you're about an hour from Asheville.
What are you waiting for! I promise you'll love it and come back again and again!

“The Hennessey Cabin in the Woods”
If you ant to get away from it all...this is the place to do it! A Unique cabin off the beaten path. From the main highway, its two miles of hard surface and three miles of gravel road to get to the cabin. A beautiful drive, even watching out for the deer and bear! This place has all the comforts of home from dishwasher to inside bathroom:
“A Little Piece of Heaven”
First of all, I would like to thank the owners, MJ and Scott Hennesy. You have created a sweet little cabin and share it with others who want to get away from it all any time of the year. This cabin was exactly what the owners described. It was so quiet and peaceful. My husband and I enjoyed being there because it so was secluded and had all the comforts of home. All of this meant a lot because we went there to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed everything this cabin had to offer. The front and back porches had rocking chairs and a swing that we enjoyed sitting on. Porches were decorated with twinkling lights that were so pretty at night but the real light show began when the stars came out at night. We would sit for hours gazing at the stars, listening to music and to the sounds of the waterfall. We also made a toasty fire in the pit. The next day we would go to Cashiers and Sapphire Valley or just go exploring. There are many waterfalls and lush green woods. Plenty of shopping and great restaurants to choose from depending on your taste. When you return to the cabin you have plenty of shows to watch on cable, videos to explore and music to listen to or dance by ( especially if you are celebrating a special occasion as we were) Anyone who is coming in the fall or winter will certainly enjoy the stone fireplace and the outside fire pit. It was a perfect getaway. Go see for yourself !
“A great time!”
This cabin makes you feel as though you have stepped back in time but with the conveniences of modern living. It's a cozy get away to relax, enjoy nature and the surrounding towns of Cashiers and Highlands. A toasty fire inside or an inviiting fire outside in the fire pit warms your toes as well as your heart. We loved it!
Such a nice little cabin in the woods. It is a great place to really get away from it all. Lots of hiking trails, waterfalls, scenery, etc. Will definitely be back for another stay!
“Great get away!!”
The cabin was nice with a rustic feel and very priviate. Loved the waterfall and fire ring in back yard. It was so relaxing. Kitchen had everything we could possibility need. Beds were very comfortable. Waterfalls and hiking were great in the area. We had a wondeful weekend.
“Amazing and very relaxing cabin”
This cabin should be listed in your Top 10 cabin's to rent. Private, adorable and a great place just to get away from everything. Great waterfalls within minutes, easy access to view and relax. very convenient to both Cashiers and Highlands if you wish to shop and eat.
“Great Cabin in a Great Location”
I can't imagine a better base for a week (or two) of exploring all the natural wonders of this area. For those who want to spend a week exploring the Ellicott's Rock Wilderness Area, hiking, and fishing the Chattooga - this is PERFECT. If exploring the mountain back roads by car, or mountain bike, and seeing all the amazing waterfalls is more appealing - this is the perfect location for that too. But you don't have to rough it - the cabin is equipped with all the conveniences you could need - and shopping is convenient, and just the right distance away, in Cashiers. I'll admit I have a bias in favor of the Cashiers - Whiteside Mtn - Highlands area, having spent a week or two there in many of the summers of my youth. What I've always longed for was to find a remote, tucked away cabin in the area, which was not part of one of the mountain golf club developments. Now I've found it in MJ's wonderful cabin - and we're planning to be back there soon for another relaxing week.
“Best kept secret”
Where to begin? This little rustic cabin was such a unique surprise- the ideal setting and comfortable ammenities were absolutely perfect. This was an ideal cabin a family weekend in the mountains. While cozy and small, the floorplan easily accomodated the three of us. We enjoyed returning each afternoon to make a campfire, read, play games and prepare gourmet dinner each evening. Thank you for offering a lovely mountain retreat! SUSIE, MARK & AMELIA GRACE DOWDY - Atlanta, GA
“A Home in the Mountains”
What an incredible experience we had in the western NC mountains, and this cabin was the perfect headquarters for our adventures. We spent the weekend viewing waterfalls and hiking in some of the most beautiful areas in our state, and it was great to finish our day with a hot meal cooked up in our cabin retreat. This place was so far over our expectations that I can't properly communicate how perfect it was, and I would highly reccomend it to anyone planning a visit to this area. Thank you so much for a memorable vacation!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in your cabin. The location was great! We spent our days hiking nearby waterfalls and our evenings relaxing around the fire. Although the cabin was situated in a remote mountain setting, it was close to shopping and restaurants in Highlands and Cashiers. We plan to return next year for another enjoyble time. S&J

"The Hummingbird House" (9/05)
I'm so glad my friend, Linda found your ad on the internet....it was the perfect cool-mountain experience; so different from our long, hot Florida summer. Once we found the cabin, we settled right into your welcoming surroundings. The comfortable beds, thirsty towels and crackling fire were just perfect after a day of local explorations. We'll be back for sure!!!
PS Many thanks for the breakfasts...........
Thanksgiving Weekend, 2005
We loved this little fairy-tale cottage, twinkling with christmas lights and welcoming us after our long ride from Nashville. Everything was perfect and we had a chance to relax and laugh together, to watch movies, hike, visit beautiful waterfalls, shop a little and mostly, just to be with each other.
We would love to come back and will pass along the word of this special place to our friends in Nashville.
Thanks so much,
C., G., and J.T.
Welcome to our wonderful little piece of heaven! We have made several wonderful changes.....putting in a few "luxuries" like a dishwasher and new appliances. We also put in new living room furniture, wonderful beds, porch rockers, a great firepit and to top it off, a pond and waterfall in the back yard!
We have a beach home that we rent out also, so we know what it takes to please renters and we always go above and beyond! Please call us if you have any questions at all.

We know you'll love it as much as we do!
