My wife and I were extremely pleased with this adorable cottage. Cottage had everything needed for our vacation. What we didn't expect was the beautiful views from the living room to the ocean. Many working lobster fisherman come in and out of the cove. Our family walked our tandem kayaks into the waters and had a terrific time. Sunrises and the moonlight dancing off the water was also a terrific treat. We will most definitely return. We also enjoyed New Harbor, the Pemiquid lighthouse and local restaurants. Our favorite coffee shop and location for the world's best cinnamon buns was The Cupboard. Best breakfast location was the Lighthouse restaurant and best dinning was Contented Sole Near Pemiquid beach. Can't say enough positive things about New Harbor and this cottage.
“The Maine Experience”
If you are drawn to the description of this cottage, it must be because you are looking for the quintessential Maine experience, and that is exactly what you will find here. I grew up on the other side of the cove, so it was great fun looking at Long Cove from another perspective. The tides are always mesmerizing, and the stars at night are captivating. We appreciated being able to build a fire in the fireplace on the cool mornings (firewood can be purchased right in Bristol Mills for $5 a bundle). My only concern was having my 84-year-old Mother have to navigate the very narrow stairs to the bedrooms. Fortunately, the width of the stairwell enabled her to hold on to both sides and I think she did better with these stairs that the ones in our own home! I loved listening to the gossip of a couple of locals on the deck at Shaw's about Anchor Inn being gone, having been replaced by "The Anchor, UGH". Sadly we had a medical emergency on the last day of our stay, but Kirk and Sherrie were incredibly gracious to give up a day of their stay the next week so we could have an extra night to care for my Mom. We so grateful! It kept us from finding another place to stay for one night in addition to everything else that was going on. The cottage is well equipped with essentials and even has some board games for the kiddos. I loved having this replication of vacations from years past!
“A very mellow week”
Cottage reminded us of Beach Weeks from our childhood. Walking, biking, beach time, highlight was going to Monhegan Island for a day. Wish I were still there!
“Maine - the way life should be!”
The views from the front window of this cottage are absolutely breath taking. Watching the tides come in and out, and the lobster boats check their traps are just a few of the wonderful views. There was plenty of room for our party of 7. We grilled on the gas grill, roasted marshmallows in the fireplace one night when it was a little cool, but mostly enjoyed sitting out on the rocks and exploring the coastline. Listening to the waves at night, and admiring all the stars made it hard to go to sleep. There's plenty of things to do in the area also. We visited Pemaquid Lighthouse, and ate at the restaurant beside, eating the absolute best shortcake ever! We went kayaking and saw a bald eagle and we searched for sea glass among the rocks. We took the boat to Monhegan Island, and hiked along the coast. Of course Shaws is close by for a seafood dinner, and ice cream in town for dessert. Lot's of shopping close by but most importantly, the beauty of nature, and the opportunity to live life the way it should be. We will definitely return. It's been at least 20 years since we came to this cottage, and this visit brought back so many memories. Now we have many more to last us till we can return again. Thank you Kirk and Sherri for sharing this wonderful location.
“Our Favorite Place in Maine”
Peaceful, Clean and ready for your family. Amazing ocean views from all the large front windows of the cottage. The ocean is right there to watch all day if you just want to sit and stay in the same place, Cook on the gas stove or grill out at the grill and eat out on the picnic table. If you want to go out to swim in the cove or drive 7 miles to the Pemaquid Beach.everything is close. Shaw's Wharf and the Gossilin Arms right around the corner for fresh seafood, Friendly people and family friendly atmosphere. This is our 3rd summer. We are going back again next year.
“Had a great time!!!”
The cottage was comfortable and breezy. The warm ocean breeze came right through the house. We fell asleep to the sound of the waves every night. With a lobster pound right down the street was very convenient, we had fresh seafood everyday. Everything we needed was in the house.
