Description of the Chappaquiddick vacation home rental
Perfect vacation estate with all the amenities needed for family reunions.

The home is nestled atop Sampson's Hill, the highest elevation in Edgartown, where your family and guests can enjoy outdoor activities and gatherings with the benefits of a full size heated pool, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and an 8 person Jacuzzi that has fantastic built in back massages (i.e. it is the same Jacuzzi that is in the White House)

This family home is an excellent choice for family reunions with 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths that comfortably sleeps 16 people with air conditioning throughout the home. The home is referred to as an upside down home reserving the top floor as shared living space that contain wood carvings by a local artist of a Giant Octopus that hangs from the ceiling as well as a wooden carving called "The Fish Frenzy" a carving of 13 fish on mahogany driftwood.

The upper level "at treetops" combines a spacious and open area for living and dining with a lovely center stone fireplace with beautiful mahogany floors, complete with Italian granite center island with countertop for dining and a gourmet kitchen with a Viking Stove, side by side a refrigerator and ice maker.

There are two beautiful screened in porches, located off the "upper level", one off the gourmet kitchen providing outdoor dining, and access to an outdoor gas grille and stairway to the heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi. The other porch provides reclining chairs and sofas where you can comfortably relax and enjoy the outdoor setting and view the swimming pool, gardens, and overlooks the lily pond which has a 1/2 scaled replica of the Monet Bridge that is located in Giverny, France.

The entertainment center is on the "upper level" including a 60inch TV along with a complete Sonos wireless speaker system with speakers throughout the home, porches, and outdoor areas including the pool and garden. You can enjoy your music libraries using the Sonos control panel or your I-phone, I-pad, android device or computer that contains your music, or you can use one of the many applications to listen to existing libraries and control what areas and speakers within the home you with to listen to as well as the speakers at poolside and in the garden.

The main house opens into a spacious living room with reclining chairs and couches that faces a stone fireplace with a 12ft wooden carving by a local artist that is mounted above the fireplace that depicts the sinking of an American whale ship, the Essex from Nantucket, Massachusetts. The Essex was widely known for being attacked and sunk by a sperm whale in the southern Pacific Ocean in 1820-an incident that served as the inspiration for Herman Melville's novel Moby-Dick.

The first floor also contains a pool table and screen porch furnished with reclining chairs where you overlook the swimming pool and gardens. This floor has a master bedroom with a private screened in porch off the bedroom as well as a private bath. The lower floor in the main house is a spacious room with a TV and a collection of mounted fish which is often used by teenagers and children as a place to congregate. The lower level has a full bath as well as full size bunk beds and futons for sleeping.

The aerial view of the home shows the swimming pool to the left of the main house and to the right of the mains house there is a walkway connected to second floor of the main house to carriage house which contains three bedrooms and a full bath on the upper level and a three car garage and laundry room on the lower level of the carriage house.

The home abuts a historical marker that is located on the top of Sampson's hill that designates the spot that a semaphore once stood from 1801 to 1840 that relayed news from Nantucket to Chappaquiddick and up the coast ultimately reaching Boston with whaling news of the day, after the whaling days ended a church was established that stood on the spot until 1939. There are ancient ways that lead to the top of Sampson's Hill that were used to access the semaphore and church that once stood there that traverse across the property. There is a trail system that connects the ancient ways throughout the island so you can access all of Chappaquiddick Island and its beaches via the ways that cross this property. One can walk or bike to the beach and other locations utilizing the ancient ways. The home is close to East Beach a 14 mile beach that you can take your 4 wheel drive vehicle on that looks out to Nantucket that is managed by a conservation organization The Trustees of the Reservation that also manage 2 other properties that are close to the home being Wasque Beach that is on the south side of the Island facing Spain as well as a Japanese Garden called Moytoi Garden.

This property abuts 100's of acres of conservation land and it is not unusual to see deer and other wildlife. Because there are no surrounding lights the sky is illuminated at night by the stars. There is a conservation trail that leads from the home to the Chappaquiddick Community Center where they have sailing, swimming, tennis, and snorkeling, etc. lessons for children and adults. The summer brings ice cream socials, foreign film nights, musical events etc. which you can access by googling Chappy Community Center. You can participate in any of the activities that you might have an interest in during your time on the Island.

You can access downtown historic Edgartown by parking your car or biking to the parking lot located on Chappaquiddick by the "On Time Ferry" which takes you across to Edgartown. You can park your car or bike here and go by foot to Edgartown (without the need to find parking in Edgartown) and enjoy the nightlife, restaurants, shopping, ice cream parlors, moves and the parks that Edgartown center has to offer. You will be able to access the many beaches, ponds, and reservations that Chappy has to offer via walking, driving, or biking on the main paved road or on the ancient trails that lead to these destinations. This family home with all of its amenities and the Island of Chappaquiddick is an enchanted destination for your family.
