Description from owner

Looking to get away to the mountains with your family? Tatonka Lodge is the perfect choice for large families, or groups, traveling together!

Our custom log home sits on a private 65 acre buffalo ranch. Enjoy viewing our buffalo when you drive in or stop by in the morning at feeding time! The cabin was completed in early 2008 and is over 3500 square feet, plenty of room for everyone to spread out. So, whether you are looking to hit the slopes at Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie Valley (only 12 miles away) or visit the Biltmore Estate in Asheville (only 30 minutes), there is plenty for everyone to do in The Great Smoky Mountains!

Tatonka Lodge, (Indian word for buffalo), is ideal for large families vacationing together because we have 2 master suites which each have private doors leading to the back deck with a fantastic mountain view.

Once inside, you will be in awe of the huge stone fireplace in the great room, surrounded by plenty of seating area for a large group. Also, rest assured the children will be well entertained downstairs in the game room where we have a life size chess set, pool table, air hockey, ping pong & foosball. Also enjoy an evening in our 8 person hot tub out back!

Children will love the hike through the woods to the brand new play area, The BC Corral! This custom designed area has everything from swings, zip line, slides, teeter totter, cargo nets, rock wall & even a horse shoe pit for the adults! The kids will love it here!

If you are looking for a quiet 'get away from it all' retreat, this is it! Enjoy long hikes on the property, fishing on the Pigeon River (within walking distance from the log cabin) or take a trip into town to do some shopping or antiquing.

We are pet friendly, size doesn't matter!

Our other cabins:

Fun things to do: Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, Biltmore Estate, Ghost Town, hiking at Chimney Rock, tubing at Deep Creek, Fun Factory, Indoor skydiving, visit the Elk in Cataloochee Park, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Casino in Cherokee, slide down the rocks at Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National Forest, downhill skiing, snowboarding & tubing at Cataloochee Ski Resort, golf at Waynesville Country Club, Maggie Valley Country Club or Ironduff Golf Course!

We hope many wonderful memories will be made while vacationing at Tatonka Lodge!

“Family vacation at tatonka lodge”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

Our family of 14 spent a week at the Tatonka Lodge in December. What an amazing lodge! Everything you need is right there. The lodge was beautiful and fully equipped. Plenty of room for everyone. The little ones loved the trail to the playground, the older ones loved the hot tub, the teenagers loved the game room. everyone loved the daily walks to feed the goats, horses and bunnies and to watch the 22 buffalo come down the mountain to feed! S'mores by the fire pit and a fire in the fireplace in the living room, great family time. Cheryl and family are amazing, they go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable, they are so personable we felt like they were part of our family. Perfect location in the North Carolina mountains. We are already planning our next visit to Tatonka Lodge in January, 2017. Thank you, Buffalo Creek Vacations, for your beautiful property and the wonderful memories our family is STILL talking about. So excited to come again!

Perfect Family Vacation!

We arrived to find a lovely home, perfectly decorated, for our family vacation. We mostly enjoyed the outdoors at the cabin and the park within walking distance. The game room at the cabin was an added bonus! We had a small problem with the TV and he was there in about 10 minutes to fix it! This is the perfect home for a family retreat!!

This is a wonderful property. Our family of 11, with kids and grandkids, enjoyed our time in this beautiful and spacious home. We really enjoyed the feeling of being out in the wilderness and up in the mountains, not in a prefabricated community just for vacationers. Yet, the house is conveniently located to many things in the Maggie Valley, Smokey Mountain area. The house is supplied with everything you can think of. Two master suites, huge decks, private trails, game room, large area for gathering and it was very clean and well equipped. I'd recommend this for any large family gathering. The only negative is the road up to the lodge which can be a bit of a challenge, but it is worth it once you learn to navigate that. All in all a wonderful proper and a wonderful host family.

Our stay at Tatonka Lodge was an awesome experience! We had family members from age 3 to age 60+ who enjoyed all of the amenities that this lovely cabin offered! Your attention to the details in making this vacation rental feel like a home was amazing! Thank you for even having the cabin decorated for Christmas (complete with a beautiful Christmas tree)! We had plenty of room for adults and children to be entertained both inside and outside. The children loved watching the buffalo being fed and were thrilled when the other animals ate from their hands! The unseasonably mild weather was an added attraction when we hiked to the playground and tether ball area and the mountain views on all sides were breathtaking. This vacation cabin was a fabulous place for family memories to be made! We highly recommend this location for families to make memories of their own! You definitely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle though. Once you have the driveway paved to get up to Tatonka, it will be the best vacation cabin ever!

We have a large family & everyone goes in different directions for Christmas now w/ extended family, so many years ago we decided to celebrate 2 weeks before & this was one of the nicest cabins we have ever rented. The attention to detail just blew us away. Everything was just like we pictured in a log cabin! The Christmas decorations were perfect! Just a nice touch & not over the top or tacky....I loved it! Our kids went down a few mornings to watch the bison feeding & then they bought some cups of animal feed & got to feed the goats! They loved that. I have to say my favorite part was sitting in the hot tub looking up at the stars!! That was so cool..then when we got out we hung by the fire-pit. We are already planning to come back next year & make this our Christmas in the Smokies Cabin! Thanks Buffalo Creek!

We decided on a last minute mountain getaway midweek & were so glad we chose Tatonka Lodge! First impressions walking into this cabin!! Wow!!! It was close to area attractions as well! We loved seeing the bison fed in the mornings!! Also, sitting under the stars in the big hot tub was fabulous! There was everything we needed in the kitchen as well to cook at the cabin a few nights--we also tried some bison steaks one night. Those were delicious! Can't wait to come back...Also, read alot of reviews about the drive, we had a minivan & got there fine. Thanks to the owners for all the thoughtfulness that went into this cabin!

Amazing place! We were a family of 14 and there was plenty of room for all. The cabin was just perfect from the beautiful stone fireplace to the great game room. The Tatonka lodge was everything we hoped for and more. The little ones loved feeding the animals every morning and seeing the buffalo. The hiking trails and playground were perfect. The cabin is beautifully kept up, kitchen well stocked. Cheryl and family are wonderful! We have already recommended Buffalo Creek vacations to our friends. All of their cabins are beautiful. Hope to come back very soon!! Thank you, Cheryl and family, for making our family vacation a very memorable one!
