This is "River Rock," our home on the river.
How about a summer weekend lounging on our private beach, watching the kayaks and rafts float by? Take a day and do your own raft trip--we're LITERALLY within a 2-minute stroll to more than one rafting outfitter.
River Rock is a little cabin that was built in the 1940's--long before there were records. Over the years, a few upgrades have been added. We like the cottage-cabin feel of River Rock, and have only made improvements where it will add to the comfort of our guests. Some improvements are still on the "to do" list for Spring 2011, but we know you'll love this welcoming home!
You can also wander over to Henningson-Lotus Park or Camp Lotus, or even several local restaurants. No need to drive when you stay here!
While staying here, you can enjoy barbequing in our in the garden or on the beach. How about exploring a historic pioneer cemetery or contemplating the ancient native american grinding rock!
One guest commented, "Nevermind your typical rundown, creaky old vacation cottage. River Rock is solidly constructed, with modern heating and cooling systems, and is complete with everything you'd want away from home: superbly comfortable beds, spotless linens, fully-equipped kitchen, toiletries--even nightlights throughout the home. Topping it all off, the owners' gracious hospitality will make you feel like their guests and friends, rather than people who just stopped in for a couple of nights."
On the beach, you'll find chairs and picnic tables, and an adobe patio for setting up camp for a day. There's a small creek that trickles into the river too, and blackberries abound in that shady location. Our grounds are expansive, and blend with the local environment to provide numerous places to relax and read, take a siesta, or even shoot some photos or have a stroll.
In the house, enjoy the great floor plan which accommodates up to six people, and is still a cozy and romantic setting for a quiet getaway for two.
The main floor features a HUGE country-sized kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, and all the typical amenities. There's a counter height bar and a dining area, plus an intimate sitting area all in the same room (great room style).
The kitchen/dining/sitting area has an entire wall of windows which look onto the filtered view of the river. Step outside from here onto a large, covered, carpeted, outdoor room that can be enjoyed all year 'round.
Also on the main floor are the bathroom and the intimate master bedroom, as well as the smallest bedroom in the home. Just the right size place if you are two people traveling together.
For the larger group, the rest of the house is downstairs, and features a large family room and the third bedroom.
The entire home has been renovated and refurnished by the new owners during late summer 2010. The owner/manager home is also on the property (a respectful and private distance away). This ensures that we spend a great deal of time maintaining caring for River Rock. We believe you'll feel quite happy with your experience here.
Nearby activities include panning for gold in Coloma State Park; the original location where gold was discovered resulting in the 1849 gold rush. Head to Apple Hill where you can visit one of the many ranches along the Farm Trails offering sweet corn, vine ripened tomatoes, fresh green beans, chestnuts, pumpkins, colorful bouquets and much more (type of harvest available depends on the season of your stay). Many farms have bake shops, pony rides, and various other activities. Don't miss stopping at the Fudge Factory!
Apple Hill also provides tasting rooms with award winning wines. Apple Hill is one of the several regional attractions within El Dorado County. Another is located south of Pollock Pines in scenic Fair Play - all within a few miles of each other. A map with the Farm trails and wineries will be provided. And, of course, we have some vineyards and tasting rooms only minutes from River Rock. Ask us for some recommendations.
If you are looking for a great game of golf you can play at Apple Mountain Golf Course; a championship course offering breathtaking views of nature. Or visit historic Placerville, also known as "Old Hangtown", for antique shopping or boutique hopping. Many restaurants and shops can be enjoyed. You may want to take a day trip up to South Lake Tahoe. This drive is only about 45 miles and will provide for lots of entertainment and gambling opportunities.
In the winter months you will have plenty of opportunity for skiing at one of the local ski resorts. Sierra-at-Tahoe is only about 75 minutes from this vacation home. Several others are located between Pollock Pines and South Lake Tahoe.

The house is easily accessible from Interstate 50. Make sure you stock up at the Safeway in Cameron Park before you head to Lotus. The house itself is lovely and comfortable. I love the long deck looking out to the river for morning lounging and then moving to the other side of the house in the evening where there is a patio next to the largest Indian grinding stone I've ever seen. Details throughout the house make it feel elegant in the midst of the rugged outdoors. We had fun riding a 10 mile loop nearby one day. Every day required a dip in the river. Loved watching the rafts and kayaks float by.

The cottage was roomy and newly remodelled. Included deck, patio and garden. Beautiful views of the river and the woods. Private beach was warm and sunny with plenty of spots to swim in. Bonfire at the beach, what more can you want?
Wow! We were impressed. The cottage is in a rural setting and is vintage, but the (very accomodating owners) have added designer touches such as accents from Restoration Hardware, and Bedding from Pottery Barn, as well as some attractive vintage furnishings. Even so, the cottage is comfortable and feels like a quality place without feeling formal, as a "beach cottage" should feel. Yes, beach cottage. While it's set in the Sierra foothills, the cottage has undertones of a lovely cottage by the sea, mainly supported by the decor and the deep covered porches which can be enjoyed rain or shine. We stayed this holiday season, and there were many things to do, even though you might think this a summer place. We went to Apple Hill and visited a few wineries (there MANY to choose from). There is a great restaurant almost around the corner from the cottage, and of course, we cooked up a storm. They are not kidding about the kitchen--it's huge! I can't wait to plan a summer trip to River Rock. Thanks for your hospitality, Nikki and Jeff!
We loved the location, overlooking the American River from the kitchen, dinning, and living rooms. Clean, comfortable, and quiet, just how we like it. Great place to get away. We will be back!
