About Estes Park
Estes Park, located in northwest Colorado, is a gem at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountain National Park. Once a summer destination, the area has grown into a year-round place to enjoy nature and the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Take in breathtaking views from one of the many Estes Park vacation rentals during your stay.
Things to Do
Estes Park is a natural playground. Visitors enjoy biking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and wildlife safari tours. One of the most popular activities is learning how to fly fish in one of its crystal clear rivers.
Those who enjoy heights will love trying a zipline course, tackling the Open Air Adventure Park, or taking the aerial tramway to the summit of Prospect Mountain. From the view finders at the observation platform, enjoy the panoramic view of Longs Peak, the ranges of the Continental Divide, Estes Park Village, and Rocky Mountain National Park. There's also a gift shop and coffee-house. Hiking in the area is family friendly.
Beer is a large draw in this town, and you'll find that many of the breweries in Colorado offer a European-style beer garden-type atmosphere where a pint is enjoyed in a family friendly spot. Estes Park relishes its handcrafted brews and wines. Its wineries offer all sorts of wines from Riesling to Cabernet and Merlot to Chardonnay. Some of the wineries offer tours and tastings by appointment. Snow Peaks Winery even has a family-friendly tasting room and offers children their own juice tasting. You can also skip the tasting and simply buy some of these beverages to enjoy from the comforts of Estes Park vacation rentals.
While most people arrive by car, once you're there, you can use the free shuttle system. With the downtown trolley and five town shuttle routes, you can leave the driving and navigating to someone else. The Rocky Mountain National Park hiker shuttle operates from May through early October. Park entry fees do apply. Purchase park passes at the Rocky Mountain National Park Visitor Center and entrance stations. If you have a car, make sure to take a scenic drive on the highest continually paved highway in the United States, the Trail Ridge Highway. It’s located within the Rocky Mountain National Park, too.
The area enjoys warm summer days and cool nights with dry air. Layering is suggested. Summer temps are often in the 70s during the day and dip down to the 40s at night. The expected harsh winters of a mountain climate don't hold true in Estes Park. Winter daytime temperatures are often not much different from summer evening temps in the 40s. Winter nights average in the 20s. During the winter, pack warm clothes and plan to spend relaxing evenings by a fireplace at your Estes Park vacation rental.
In the lower elevations, springtime is wonderful for fishing and biking. In March and April, higher elevations see the most snow-cover. Summer brings hiking and by June, the paths in the Rock Mountain National Park are snow-free. Fall brings back the anglers and is elk mating season. Late September into October is prime season for the leaves to change colors before winter brings sledding, cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing.
Estes Park hosts a number of signature events. Highlights include the one-of-a-kind Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, Jazz Fest, Elk Fest, Fall Black Beer Festival, and Autumn Gold. Throughout the summer and fall, you can enjoy live music at intimate venues, catch a craft show at Bond Park, or enjoy the western culture at the Stanley Fairgrounds.
The monthly ranger-led full moon hike at the Rocky Mountain National Park is a great opportunity to see a different side of this spectacular Eden.
Estes Park vacation rentals bring you to the doorstep of nature's home. With so many ways to enjoy the outdoors, your vacation will end long before the sunshine and opportunities do.
