About the area

Good fishing, bass and otherwise, sailing, canoeing on lake and incoming stream, wind surfing and paddle boating from dock on property. Fast motor boats and water skiing not allowed on our private lake, making possible a peaceful and tranquil experience if one wishes that. Great bicycle and hiking trails nearby, including the Harlem Valley Rail Trail a few miles away, and the Appalachian trail along the ridge a mile to the east. Several ten speed and two three speed bicycles available on property. 5 minutes from Taconic Park and the entrances to Bash Bish falls, a magnificent 20 minute walk up the stream from the parking lot, or down the mountain from the scenic overlooks above it. Driving the area is a treat, as one finds beautiful and unexpected views every few minutes. 45 minutes from great music at Tanglewood, great dance at Jacobs Pillow, and great theater at Stages in Pittsfield. Magnificent birds, great blue herons and bald eagles call the pond and the marshes around it their home, and are often seen on a canoe trip up the stream that feeds the lake. A myriad of small colorful and not so colorful birds constantly, visit the bird feeder in the yard facing the lake and can be seen from the the screened in porch on the second floor, where we usually eat in the summer and soak in the lovely view of the lake. A blue grass and a folk music festival within ten miles in mid summer. 12 minutes from skiing at Catamount mountain, or 30 minutes from Butternut in the winter. Movies and shopping are available within 20-25 minutes in Millerton,Great Barrington and Hudson.
