“A Great Escape for Nature Lovers!”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2012

A perfect place to relax. The house was comfortable and clean and has a great feel to it. The rocks on the water provide front row seats to view great blue herons, osprey, eagles, loons and a seal pup. It's a short walk to a sand beach. Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia National Park are truly beautiful, and it seemed like we had it all to ourselves. The people in Corea are so friendly. We didn't have enough time to do all we wanted, so we'll be back! Thanks for many fond memories!

“Very Nice”

We all had a great time here, our grandchildren really enjoyed it. We liked the peaceful and quiet nature of the area, while having easy access to other things such as Schoodic Point in the Acaidia National Park. It was also fun to watch the local Lobster boats working right in front of the cottage.

“A dream come true!!!!!”

My family (ages 6-62) and I had just the best time at the ocean cottage! It was everything that they advertised. The cottage was wonderful and met all of our needs and it was very close to the ocean, just as they said. The views were great, seeing the fishing boats, Prospect Light House, ospreys and their nest, sea ducks, and the beautiful ocean. We loved finding pretty rocks and sea glass in front of the cottage. The sound of the ocean was so sweet. I loved going to sleep every night listening to the waves come in and the rattles of the rocks when the waves went out. The sandy beach was close by and the younger ones walked to it and us older folks drove the very short distance to it. We enjoyed cookouts most nights as the owners provided a charcoal grill. We went to the lobster co-op in Corea and enjoyed watching the fishermen in their boats. The lobsters we got there were a wonderful treat. We also went to Schoodic Point and that was such a beautiful sight. Winter Harbor provided us with stores to brouse on the rainy day. Rona, the owner was wonderful, and a pleasure to talk to. It was the best family vacation, we all loved our time there and I would go back in a heartbeat! Cyndie

“Cottage by the sea”

My husband & I spent our 25th wedding anniversary at this lovely place. I would highly recommend it. The picturesque scenery surrounding the cottage was simply beautiful. The cottage itself is designed rustic with beautiful antiques from local and far away places, the knotty pine walls and floors is gorgeous. The cottage elicits a warm, comfortable, and inviting atmosphere. It was very clean and well maintained. We felt so at home here. So relaxing to hear the ocean waves day and night as they hit the shore. The owner has taken time to provide an assortment of interesting reading materials about Maine and surrounding areas, as well as, a variety of books just for your reading entertainment. Also, we found all kinds of information of places to see and things to do within the local area. Kayaking with Ed at Seascapes Kayaking was absolutely a blast. There are games provided. A CD/radio player for your favorite music. DVD player for movie enjoyment which was so relaxing after a long day of exploring. Every day we spent time walking the shore out front looking for beautiful sea glass that the area artist use for jewelry making and such. If you watch closely, you may be surprised to see wildlife you have not seen before. Such as eagle, osprey, seal, porpoise, deer, or possibly even a moose. Every morning my husband and I loved having our coffee and oatmeal w/local blueberries on top and watch the fishermen out in the bay checking their traps. Bring your binocculars! Every evening after dark we enjoyed a glass of wine and sat in the livingroom. It was relaxing looking through the large floor to ceiling windows facing the shoreline and watching the adjacent lighthouse light go on and off while listening to the sound of the ocean waves hit the shore. At times, when the fog came in you could also here the bells and fog horn blow. There are many great local eateries. The local people are so very friendly, and a great joy to meet. The cottage has all the amenities necessary to cook anything you would like. From cooking lobster, grilling, to making pies. There's nothing like the smell of a fresh baked apple pie, fresh lobster dinner, and the fresh ocean air. Wow, I know we will never forget this trip! We really didn't want to go home!! We will be back again!!

The views from the house and shore are incredible. Watching the birds and the cruise ships coming and going from Bar Harbor was special. We watched the sunset from the stone covered beach every night.

“Charming cottage & stunning oceanfront playground!”

Our family with 2 children (ages 9 & 11) loved this place! Cottage sits so close to the water that we heard the waves lapping night and day. Sometimes we were treated to the sounds and views of waves crashing and spraying gently over the rocks as the tide came in with the wind. The views overlooking the water from the wide floor to ceiling sized windows in the living room and upper bedroom are amazing. At night, we enjoyed watching the lighthouse beacon's light that sits across the cove from the cottage. The place feels very secluded and quiet, although there are neighboring cottages. We were treated to eagles, loons, and falcons right outside the cottage almost daily. The cottage is surrounded by quaint working fishing villages and all the locals are very friendly and welcoming. In this area of Schoodic, there's a real sense of a small town community where everyone seems to know everyone. We took a couple of day trips into Acadia National Park (on Mt Desert) and were so grateful to be able to leave the crowds at the end of the day to return to our quiet cottage retreat. It was a 45 minute drive (one way). It's a very short drive (6 miles) to the uncrowded and beautiful Schoodic section of Acadia National Park from the cottage. Our kids would often beg to return to their "rocks" at the cottage which had become their favorite playground over all that Acadia had to offer them. Gorgeous cove setting and beach area to walk and explore, usually all to ourselves. The cottage has a loft over each bedroom. The ends of the lofts are open ended (no guard rails/walls) and accessed by ladders. Our kids loved having their private (hard to access by the adults) retreats. Cottage has 1 bathroom on ground level with old-fashioned clawfoot tub outfitted with showerhead and curtain. Steep half-spiral wooden staircase (with wide step area) to access bedroom level. It was a challenge for my elderly mother-in-law with knee issues to manuever, but she did it with assistance. Cottage was beautifully decorated, cozy, yet has an open feel. Has a lot of personality and character. Rustic and modernized at the same time. Comfortable beds. Clean linens. Very personable and helpful owner who goes out of her way to ensure you have a nice stay. Don't stay here if you want modern hotel-like accomodations. But if you want a gorgeous tranquil setting by the water and a charming cottage with lots of personality, this is it! We will be going back!
