About the area

Cortez is a wonderful place to go when you want to experience Florida "like it used to be". Walking through this little fishing village, it's as if you've entered a bygone era. The village is on Sarasota Bay and was originally settled in the 1880s. The early fishermen found a wealth of seafood here, and safe harbor for their fleet. Today you can still enjoy the their bountiful daily catch, fresh from the sea, while dining within sight of the boat it came from. To experience more of the area, simply walk across the Cortez Bridge to Anna Maria Island, or Long Boat Key and enjoy all that Island life has to offer. Right on a canal ...this vacation rental is within a short walk to everything!!! Anna Maria Island & Long Boat Key beaches, restaurants, deep sea fishing, guided boat tours, para-sailing, antique shops, groceries, homemade ice cream, pizza and even a Veterinary Clinic. Fish from the boat dock (gear provided), or paddle your Kayak less than 1 minute to the warm calm tropical waters of Sarasota Bay.

Getting here

Sarasota /Bradenton Airport (SRQ) about 15 minute drive. Arrive and call Uber!

“My wonderful vacation”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2015

This apartment had a beautiful open concept, nicely decorated. The place was supplied with nice quality furniture and cooking apparatus. Quiet and right on the canal, close to everything. Owners were above and beyond for help, and just a click away. Clean and never even seen a bug. I would recommend this place to everyone. Thanks for the stay. Liz

“A Cortez Beauty”

My wife and I had a great time at "2ndNEST". The rental home was very clean with equipped with virtually everything you need for an extended stay. Watching the marine life in the canal was very interesting as it changed continuously with the rising and falling tides. This residence in Cortez is conveniently located to Anna Maria Island and close to beaches, restaurants and stores. The owner is very pleasant and explains all of the necessary details about the property. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Florida in the future.

I would recommend it to one and all.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and hate to return to the cold weather,
at home. It is still snowy and cold.
The unit is so roomy and the deck was a great place to relax.
We could watch the boats using the canal and see the sun rise (almost)
every morning.
Its a great place to stay and a good location for getting to other
destinations.
I would recommend it to one and all. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at the 2nd Nest. The owner's are very nice and very accommodating.
The place is very clean and all the things on the listing are correct. There are plenty of places
to sit outside with a nice canal in the backyard. One day while sitting on the dock I saw a manatee
swimming by. I would recommend this place to anyone.
We had a great stay with the only down fall being the traffic caused by the draw bridge and influx
of people for the season which is just part of being close to the beach.

Relaxing with nearyby activity options

My wife and I stayed in the ground floor unit and it was just what we needed for some relaxing down time. The bed and furniture was comfortable and we took advantage of the outdoor seating too. The shaded patio helped us get just the right amount of shade time and the deck by the canal allowed us to sit in the sun and watch some boats go by. Our primary goal was quiet relaxation and we had plenty. On days when we wanted to go out there are plenty of local options for boat rides, sandy beaches, fishing trips, artsy shopping and lots of restaurants.
The place was extremely clean and it was clear the new owners care about the property and are continuing to upgrade inside and out. They were very responsive to all our questions and quite helpful in suggesting local sites.
We would definitely like to return and even bring the grand kids for a bit. There was a second bedroom with bunk beds too.

We had a really relaxing stay, we stayed in the upstairs apartment. The accommodation is tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you need. It's located just off the island so evenings are quiet with little traffic noise. Although it's off the island, it's just a short walk or bike ride across the Cortez Bridge and you are right next to historic Bridge Street, in Bradenton Beach. The free trollies are great to explore Holmes Beach and Anna Maria. The beaches on the island are wonderful and there are plenty of places to dine out on the island.
Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car.

All You Could Want-Wonderful
My daughter and I wanted to have a place that felt like home yet you knew you were at the beach. This home was perfect. We stayed in the upper unit and it was equipped with everything you need and more. It was uniquely and beautifully decorated. The owners have put their own touch on this unit making it warm and inviting. If you are looking for relaxation and beach time, look no further, you will not do better than the 2nd Nest!

Spectacular
This adorable, spacious place was heaven sent to a Vermonter who had had it with winter! The property is in a very quiet neighborhood, bordering the canal that leads to the bay. Just up the road is the Cortez bridge that takes you across to the beautiful gulf beaches, quaint shops and numerous restaurants, all a 15 minute walk. Closer by is the charming Cortez Fishing Village with two fish markets and several more restaurants.
The owners have done a spectacular job making this duplex a very comfortable and delightful place for vacationers. The kitchen is well equipped with everything a cook could want. It was well stocked throughout with supplies so I didn't have to run to the store first thing. Thoughtfully toiletries are plentiful in case you forgot something. Every attention has been paid to detail making this a wonderful home away from home!
I will certainly return!
