Description of the Crescent City vacation chalet rental
If peace and quiet are what you are been looking for, you will find them here! Enjoy the ultimate relaxing vacation in an adorable A-frame cottage nestled in its own redwood grove. Watch the stars through the large skylights as you fall asleep on a futon in the vaulted livingroom. Talk to your family and friends while cooking in the open kitchen with an island stove. Or gaze out at the green canopy of redwoods from balcony off the loft bedroom. Knotty pine paneling from floor to ceiling throughout the majority of the home lends a warm cabin-y feeling that belies the modern conveniences that you will enjoy, including cable TV with DVD player, microwave, dishwasher, and laundry facilities. Located on a quiet lane in rural Fort Dick, only 20 minutes to Crescent City ocean beaches and close to the Wild and Scenic Smith River. Two bedrooms and two baths on a secluded 1.44 acre glade of redwoods will sleep a maximum of six people.

Area Information
This vacation home is located in Fort Dick, about 8 miles north of Crescent City and its ocean beaches, where it's not uncommon to find your footprints are the only ones in the sand. Surfing, kayaking and body boarding at Crescent City's South Beach are popular activities. Hiking in the myriad of county, state and federal parks is another. The Wild and Scenic Smith River, the only undammed major river in California, is a favorite spot for fishing and river rafting. It is only minutes away from the house. The mighty Klamath River is about 1/2 hour to the south. Stout Grove, part of Jedediah Smith State Park, features 10 miles' drive through forests of old growth redwoods. And only 10 minutes away you'll find the Lake Earl Wildlife Refuge, with its brackish water ecosystem, which is an important flyway for more than 300 species of birds.

Nice chalet, few provisions

Nice chalet, few provisions

August 26, 2008

The chalet is beautiful, as photos indicate, inside and out. It is in a little neighborhood, though still feels private. One note, the kitchen lacks many provisions, including salt and pepper (though we left a set when we were there). Crescent City is definitely past its "hay day", but the Redwoods are close and lovely.

Awesome house

July 16, 2008

We really loved our week at this beautiful cabin. It was quiet, the kitchen is pretty well equipped and the beds were very comfy. Everything was great, but here are a couple things to be aware of: 1. "Whoo Whoo" alarms - When we first heard this very loud alarm, we were terrified. Then we figured out it must be coming from the prison up the road, since the neighbors didn't seem to be panicking. We heard it go off maybe three times during our 5 night stay, once at 11:30 pm. 2. Too much perfumey air fresheners - If you're into "scents," you won't have a problem with this, but we found the number of air fresheners and the level of perfume stink of the towels and sheets a bit excessive. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the charming chalet. You can eat oatmeal, pack lunches, hike and swim and fish all day and then come home every night and cook a good dinner, take a hot shower and watch some HGTV before bed! Having laundry access was also wonderful. I didn't want to leave.
