Description from owner

This family seasonal home on the waterfront is secluded and serene. With direct waterfront and panoramic views, watch sloops sailing up and down the river, lobstermen pulling pots, even occasional seals leaping or sunning. Osprey routinely catch their dinner in the river. Some years, eagles nest at the top of an especially tall pine tree in view of the house.

Explore the clam flats at low tide. (Yes, there are steamer clams for the digging and clamming forks at the house if you've a mind to try.)

Walk, jog or ride your bike around the loop, a 3 or 4-mile circle of road around Stone's Point. Then relax on the screen porch with a book from a large collection throughout the house. Or choose one of the many board games or puzzles available. Of course there's a Smart TV, cable, internet and a DVD player, but who goes to Maine to watch TV?

After a home cooked lobster dinner, put your feet up in front of a cozy fire in the fireplace and remember what it's like to have no agenda at all. Or step outside and look up. With no light pollution, no place has more stars than a clear Maine night sky.

When you crave a little civilization, there are many attractions within an easy drive, many only 10 miles or so away.

About the area

Cushing is a small rural town with a post office, a small general store and is the site of the house featured in artist Andrew Wyeth's famous painting,Christina's World. Thomaston, about 10 miles away, is a charming old town with its history literally carved in stone along the main street and worth a stroll through. Rockland is about 5 miles beyond and boasts many attractions including restaurants, boutique shops, galleries, the harbor, the Farnsworth Museum (art), the Owl's Head Transportation Museum and the Rockland Lighthouse Museum. Picturesque Rockport and Camden are several miles beyond Rockland. Camden Hills State Park offers hiking trails, a waterfront picnic area and, at the summit, spectacular views of Penobscot Bay. Lighthouses are another attraction in the area. Lobster is everywhere.

Getting around

The coast of Maine is best seen by car. There is a coastal rail line that may be worth trying as a fun outing, but it is not a reasonable way to get around.

Getting here

Mapquest or Google give excellent driving directions to the house. The nearest major airport is Boston's Logan airport, a little over 3 hours away, depending on traffic. There is a regional airport in Rockland, only 20 minutes away from the house if you prefer.

Interaction with guest

While I am always available to answer any questions by email or phone, I prefer to let my guests enjoy their vacation without any interaction from me unless they ask for it.

“Experience the true Essence of Coastal Maine”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2016

This home has everything, all you need to bring is food & cloths! Fantastic views, with a classic rocky waterfront. Enjoy looking for shells & sea life Hint:[Bring water shoes]. The screen porch is wonderful relaxing and reading. We were thankful to have such a nice place to stay and even be able to bring our dog. We were concerned about booking a place we had never been to, and booking communication was sparse, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience!!

“Maine Cottage”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2016

Lovely Maine cottage right on the ocean. Plenty of room and large mowed yard for outdoor activities. Great sea glass down by the water's edge and fun to hunt for it. We really enjoyed our return to Maine.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the great review, Carol. I'm glad you had a nice time. -Evon

“Lovely Home, Fantastic Location, Amazing Views”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2015

Our family lucked out with this lovely home. The pictures do not do the house or view justice. We have a mix from 9 years to 82 years old. The house itself, location and shoreline was all perfect for us. The kitchen was big and had pretty much everything we needed. The guest book has a lot of helpful info. The whole family enjoyed the kayaks! We enjoyed the sunrise each morning and a fire in the evening. Thank you!

“Peaceful Hideaway”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2015

Close your eyes and picture the classic Maine coast hideaway. All the comforts of home with breathtaking views and quiet relaxation. Do nothing and watch the lobstermen tending traps or head into Rockland for shopping, good food, and homemade ice cream. Perfect vacation. The owners go out of their way to take care of every detail. We feel fortunate to have found this special place.

I don't know where to start, with the water views of St. Georges river, the absolute cleanliness of the place, or the house being fully equipped to having coffee filters so that you can have coffee the next morning. What wasn't mentioned is that corner store near by. It has homecooked meals everyday so you never need to cook-yeah!!! Definitely, with out question recommend this place. My dog absolutely loved the huge green fields to run in, and the rocks when the tide was out. Super private and I mean private.. Was sorry to leave. One week was not enough.

“What a beautiful, little "find"!”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2014

I thought the reviews were to good to be true, but the reality was even better then expected. The entire area is beautiful and serene. The spacious and comfortable house sits on the edge of the property like a beacon welcoming you home. The picturesque house is warn, inviting and fully equipped for anyone's taste or needs. We went biking, canoeing, kayaking and walking. When we weren't actively involved we enjoyed hours of reading, resting, or putting puzzles together on the roomy screened in porch...the view is breathtaking! We explored the area by taking day trips which involved sightseeing, hiking, whale watching, and even experiencing an exciting and educational ride on a lobster hauling boat...the grandchildren loved that. Speaking of lobster, we hooked up early in our stay with Dan Staples, owner of Luke's Seafood, at the end of Pleasant Pt. Rd., where our own crate of lobsters was waiting for us every night tied to the dock. My friend and my son-in-law would canoe down the river to his dock and take as many lobsters as we wanted for dinner that night, and the leftovers went into lobster omletes for breakfast...how great was that! Obviously we were totally enamored by this special place...so much so, that we will be back for another month next year to our beautiful, little "find"!

We had our family come in from San Francisco, Clarksville TN, Danville KY and Kittery Maine, ...It was a great week of laughter, playing board games. walking the shore, flying kites, exploring the area. Fantastic peace and solitude there, and we got a great picture of a sunrise over the river and the buoys marking the lobster pots..at 4:50am. We Highly recommend this rental, a classic Maine vacation site!

“What a Spot!”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

Girls weekend in the fall, sisters and Auntie since 1992 - we've stayed in some nice places in Maine, but this is the best yet and we hope to make it our permanent yearly getaway place. Here's why: Gorgeous view from anywhere in the house - the water is right there! Quiet neighborhood, private feeling, no other houses right up close Comfy living room with flat screen TV Screened porch to sit and read and talk Fully equipped kitchen - we cooked a fish dinner on Friday night. Nearby restaurants - we ate at the Slipaway on Saturday, it is right on the harbor. Five bedrooms, 2 down, 3 up (some people snore, not mentioning any names) One of the downstairs bedrooms has its own full bathroom, for the aunt 2nd bathroom with shower upstairs Great house, made a puzzle, read books and magazines, relaxed and laughed. Thanks, Alison!

“Comfy and Spacious”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

There were 9 of us and we were all very comfortable in the cottage. With the added space of the screened porch, plenty of room and all the furniture was very comfortable including the beds. The property is very private and the road is a great walking road, not much traffic. We had a great time and would love to return.

“Our 60th Birthday Present in Paradise!”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2013

As my twin sister and I drove down the lupine-lined driveway to what we would call The Harmony House, we became energized with feelings of anticipation and excitement about the week ahead! Would this charming home become a place to return to? The grounds surrounding the front of the house are beautiful, with shade trees, lilacs, and fields of tall grasses, daisies, buttercups, butterflies, and fireflies at night. The back yard opens to the water, the mouth of the St. George's River, and a cove to one side. The water is home to local lobster boats, sailboats, kayakers, an ocassional schooner en route to distant shores, sea birds, playful seals and even dolphins! The layout of the house is very warm and welcoming. The well-eqipped kitchen is open to a dining area (seating for 8 comfortably) with large picture window looking out to the water. A living area opens from that, with large, comfortable couch and chairs, a flat screen TV, and fireplace. There is a wonderful, large screened porch which opens from the living room, with view of the water. We enjoyed the guest book, and collection of information about things to do in the area, restaurants, etc. At the front of the house (road-side) are the 2 queen bedrooms- full of charm and very cozy. One of the 2 bathrooms in the house opens directly from one of the queen rooms, and is also accessed from the kitchen. Upstairs are the 2 adorable twin rooms and a single, and a very large bathroom. We found everything to be cared for, clean, organized, and comfortable. Washer/dryer are provided and also a clothesline out back which comes in handy for beach towels. We have been renting another property for over 25 years, just around the cove from The Harmony House. This year we wanted to find an additional rental close by to accomodate more guests- in celebration of my twin sister's and my 60th birthday. We could not have been luckier to discover this spot! All of our guests loved being in The Harmony House! It is so condusive to socializing, group dinners on the porch, cocktails by the sea, watching movies for evening activities, taking walks, exploring the local villages, etc.etc. Thank you for the memories! We will return! Stones Point is our Paradise!
