Description of the Darby vacation home rental
Are you going to finish your coffee on the deck while watching elk graze across the river as the sun peeks over the Sapphire Mountains, or are you going to step off the deck and catch that 18 inch Westslope Cutthroat feeding at your feet? Life is full of tough choices.

The Riverhouse is a unique experience, away-from-it-all yet, in the middle-of-it-all. So close to all of the activities you want to experience in the Bitterroot Valley and the surrounding mountains, yet once you enter the grounds, you're away from it all - ready to enjoy the river, the mountains directly across the river, the wildlife, the peace of The Riverhouse or head south 16 miles to lost trail powder mountain for skiing, snowboard, cross country skiing, snow shoeing or snowmobiling. Whether you're looking for relaxation, wildlife viewing, fishing, or hiking you can do it all and more right here at The Riverhouse and still be only minutes away from everything else the Bitterroot Valley, Bitterroot Mountains and Sapphire Mountains have to offer.

You'll love the extra touches that make The Riverhouse your home for a few days, a week, or a month. Touches like:
* Fitted bottom sheets. Don't you hate it when you stay in a hotel and you're ready to jump into bed and you end up remaking it because the bottom sheet comes all untucked?
* Large soft comfy bath towels.
* Snuggly Comforters
* Themed decorating that highlights local history, the great outdoors of Montana, The Lewis & Clark trail, The Nez Perce Trial and Indians, Big Sky country, Montana Wildlife, and of course Fly Fishing). Study the wall maps and books that show Lewis & Clark likely had lunch right on the property and the Nez Perce trial runs right through the property.
* Cozy gas fireplace
* Outdoor fire pit
* Comfy deck chairs

When we started looking for a vacation house as a fly fishing base in Montana, I literally said, "O-MY-GOD Patty, You have to see this" when the realtor sent us information on The Riverhouse. It's location, right on the East Fork, with its reputation for great dry fly fishing... and its close proximity to a half dozen world class rivers and dozens of great creeks blew me away! Then we found out about Lost Trail Powder Mountain skiing 16 miles away - all of the great trails - the history, right here on the propery - the wildlife, on the property, in the river, and across the river - a great wonderful "Real Montana" restaurant only a mile away - and all that the Bitterroot Valley and surronding mountains have to offer... the minute we drove onto the grounds of The Riverhouse, Patty and I knew this was our second home.

Area Information
Whether your day is filled with fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, downhill skiing at Lost Trial Powder Mountain, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, browsing antique shops, exploring small town Montana, visiting the Big Hole National Battlefield, tracing Lewis & Clark's steps without leaving the property (what a great history lesson if you have kids!), or explore the Nez Perce Trail, horseback riding, enjoying a good book, or a napping in a deck chaif listen to the river babble... you'll love coming home to The Riverhouse and an evening that's likely to include sites of big horn sheep, moose, deer or elk. Then smores at your campfire next to the river and the sight of more stars in one night than you've likely seen in a life-time. When it's time sleep crack the window and allow the river to lull you to sleep. You nod off to the guggling sounds of the river just a few feet from your bedroom window.

the home was definately a home away from home, very inviting and comfortable. We had six adults and two small children at the home, yet the home was so spacious we were able to have more than enough elbow room. The view and solitude were unmatched anywhere we have vacationed before. Within a few miles of the home we saw so many amazing animals of the bitterroot valley. Among the creatures we observed making their home in this valley: elk, antelope, sand hill cranes, big horn sheep, a mink, deer, prairie dogs, rabbits, Lewis woodpeckers, cedar waxwings, and even a skunk. The river was only a few feet from the deck and cast such a calming nature on the experience. We highly recomend a visit to this little paradise. We plan a return trip ourselves.

We were fortunate to have booked the Riverhouse. The home was pleasant, clean, and met our needs well. The owners obviously take pride in the rental and want to provide a great place. It was very hot when we stayed (late August) so fishing in the East Fork was not as bountiful, nor was the wildlife. There were a lot of fishermen who passed by the creek but they were not producing much either. We did do well on the West Fork. We were able to sight see and we also loved meeting Sam and Kathy next door. We had a great breakfast in Sula and we loved meeting the lady who ran the craft shop in Conner. She is a wealth of information. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

Keith & Patty
We loved the house and barely left for 3 days.
Why leave? Beautiful mountain views with deer, bighorn sheep and elk. The river 3 steps off the deck. I really loved simply reading on the deck with the river guggling at my feer. But I think the best was listening to the river as we nodded off to sleep. We really needed the total relaxation for 4 days!
Thanks for sharing your home

Keith and Patty,
This place is Awesome! We couldn't figure out what do to first. We hiked in the Bitterroot National Park the first day, went antiquing in Darby the second, and fished off the deck the third. The fourth day we just sat around the house and relaxed with coffee in the morning and a fire in the evening. It was incredible!

Dear Keith and Patty,
Thanks for sharing this piece of heaven. It really is dry fly heaven. What a wonderfully easy to fish river... and then just walk back to that incredible deck and the views of the mountains, wildlife and river. It just doesn't get any better.
Thanks again.
